I like to ride horses, but I don't know if it's appropriate for girls. Some people say it's okay and some people don't. They say that it's because of the position you are sitting in and tznius. I really want a true answer. Can I please have your opinions??

If you are really that worried about it, you might try learning to ride side saddle, which is very hard, but is the proper way for women to ride horses.

As for the religious aspect, I have no clue!

The problem that some people have is that they think that because your legs are apart, you must be getting some sort of physical/sexual thrill out of riding the horse. Which... sorry, but no. First of all, it's a horse. I don't know about you, but I personally don't get excited when I'm anywhere near a horse. Secondly, you're bouncing and it's pounding, and that's not hugely comfortable.

The other problem some people might have is that you have to wear trousers instead of a skirt. You can solve that problem in two ways, both of which should be done together. One, wear loose-legged trousers, either straight-cut or boot-cut, so that the exact outline of your leg can't be seen. Secondly, wear a long tunic -- very long, like, below knee-length -- which is split up the sides. This will provide front and back coverage of the place where your legs meet in the middle, while the side slits will allow you to move appropriately and get your legs far enough apart to actually sit on the saddle.

I do NOT recommend riding sidesaddle. It may be "proper," but it is very, very bad for your back, and you could wind up with either injuries or a long-term back pain if you do it often. Also, it's a lot easier to fall off a horse when riding sidesaddle than when you're riding with each leg on one side and the ability to grip with your knees.

Oh my gosh! I KNOW! I went horseback riding once, and they gave me the biggest horse they had. Ironically, I got a charlie horse trying to get on the thing! Anyway, I don't really understand the logic behind legs being spread = pleasure. Have they ever heard of childbirth? Or Pap smears?

I dunno. I'd choose a tunic over sidesaddle anyday, on that note.

No offense, I don't get any sort of pleasure, especially sexual, out of riding horses. sweatdrop

I actually like wearing loose pants- they're much easier to move in than those really tight things some other people wear.

I can't understand why horsebackriding would be considered sexual. I'd say, if you want to ride, go for it! I've been riding for maybe five years now, and it's really a blast!

To be honest, I think it was a man who came up with the idea that riding a horse would somehow be sexually stimulating for a woman. They think... Eh. Never mind, it's not even worth mentioning, it's that stupid. The short version is, most men have no idea what stimulates a woman, physically or mentally. To be fair, a lot of women have no idea what stimulates a man, either. Thank goodness for most marriages, that lack of knowledge CAN be overcome by patience and open conversation.

Uh... I horseback ride, and I don't get any thrill out of it... I just get a "You're gonna do what I want you do to, you damn horse" thrill out of it (I'm not on great terms with the horse I'm currently riding).

BTW, my grandmother was a champion horsewoman, and always rode sidesaddle, and she said it was more stable and much less tiring on long rides than an English saddle.

Yeah, it was probably a man, because in certain circumstances, I've heard it is stimulating for men... Won't go into details there sweatdrop .

Well I know one thing, I'm not marrying anyone guy that's a horse enthusiast. I don't want to have to TRY and make babies! xp

Anyway, my advice shtolts is to just ride. If anyone gives you a dirty look just explain to them that what you are doing is completely fine, and if they have a problem, they don't have to watch. But do take Divash's advice and wear tunics and loose pantaloones. 3nodding
