I loooove the internet. It makes my life so much easier. I go to school online, bank online, pay bills online, shop online, and most importantly communicate online. I live in a small town and in order for me to do all these things in one day it would take me literally ALL DAY. I don't have all day to accomplish these tasks.
As for it making kids unhealthy...eh..that isn't the fault of the technology. That is a parenting issue. Get your kids out of the house and make them run around and play. I remember when I was growing up during the summer I wasn't allowed inside unless it was A) Insanely hot outside B) Bleeding or had some sort of injury. C) just stopping in to get a glass of water. D) sleeping.
If the Internet just stopped I think the whole economy of the US would die. Seriously Wall Street would tank. Even if the outage was just for a couple of hours it would cause mass panic among the public.

Is true! I, a 13-year-old, 99.3 (last checked 4-10 seconds ago), Girl, spend at least 3-5 hours a day on the comp. I also walk home from school which is 2.3 miles, and can be more depending If I walk Tony & Kayla home. Even more if I walk Kris. So mabey...Things can balance out?
As for the internet going down... uhm, hypothetically,

Good for you for getting exercise. I think that the parents have to definitely get balance back into their kids lives. There is no reason what so ever for an 11 year old kid to get off the bus and then play video games or be on the computer for the next 6 hours until he/she goes to bed. It is just rediculous. The amount of time that kids are spending on the computer is also leading to adult health problems such as overuse injuries, eyestrain, and neck and back pain. Link

Internet is a tool! A worldwide tool that can have more impact in a life than just have a phone, a television, a radio, a newspaper.
You can do the better as the worse with internet. You can make a bomb, you can spread terorism, as you can share recipes, as you can share poetry, science... All of us, mortal human, we have 1000 times less potential of computing and internet that have scientist and military... 100 years before, we could maybe build a house machine that can make 10-100 operations per second. Now computers are very powerful, and this power is strenghtened per 1000 with internet. We can share more quickly informations, at all the world.
What we could do in the 20th century, we could certainly make it twice or third times with internet, with computer, and with all technology we made, despite the global warming problems, and despite the fact we're slave of the electricity.

First of all, I don't think it's possible for the internet to "stop." It's a gigantic network of computers so you'd have to disconnect every single server... Which I can't see how anyone could do that.
Second, I think the internet is a wonderful thing. You want music, it's there. Movies, gotcha. Information, sure thing. Gossip, you can't get enough. It's amazing. rofl

LinkThat 11 year old kid was me when I discovered HTML and Jasc PaintShop Pro. smile I think that as long as it's educational, it should be worth the pain. It's like art practically, web design is anyway. Right now I'm learning how to vector and studying my apush (AP US History) work on the computer, so it's almost unnecessary to say that I'm on the computer for more than 8 hours a day, unless I'm at a friend's house. As for the drawbacks, my eyes have been failing before that time, and now I can't read anything past 7 feet. ^^; I'm fifteen now. rofl

The internet is simply to me, an incarnation that reflects what there is available in "reality". I suppose there is the arguement that it makes things that would normally not be accessable by people that should not have access to said things, accessable.
We are all responsible for our own experiences, or reaction to what we have experienced. How that may affect children as they grow up... who knows.
The internet is both a great tool and a corruptor. Much like life itself.

Yeah you're true but without energy, electricity, no internet. And without humans, no internet. A huge provider can knock out with a little bomb which cause no damage but electric shock. Computers works good with power energy and with humans.

A good and a bad thing at the time. Never heard those news like "a guy killed 3 persons with a bomb made from informations on internet?"
Internet is just making more easy what you could do harder in the real life. Internet is made of sharing, of thiefing, of destroying. *****, terrorism, music-video-games-softs free downloads, all of that and more, is possible without, but internet is an amplificator of that.

Well I know that it can be fun for shopping. I use my credit card all the time on the internet except for Ebay. I still don't trust people there.

I think that the internet is great for communication, information, and entertainment. It's true, these things are sometimes used in a bad way, but what can we do about it?
If it were to get taken down in some way then whatever. It's not like there aren't phones, televisions, newspapers, books, and other things to replace those lost through internet.
For those who can't live without the internet: Why is that? What would make life so bad without internet? I'm a teenager but I'm active enough that I'd get by just fine without internet. I used to call my friends to talk to them since I didn't have IM or email. It's just a tool to make things easier for those of us who are technologically savy enough to utilize it.
