As you can tell by the title, this topic has to do with the terms: "Goth Lolita", "Elegent Goth Lolita" and "Gothic Lolita". Why do I bring this up? because, I've noticed that a lot of people in the Lolita community keep refering to the Lolita fashion in general as "EGL" or "Gothic Lolita". I want to clear this up since it really annoys me when people get terms mixed up. "Goth Lolita" is the fashion in general. Sweet Lolita, Cyber Lolita, Punk Lolita etc. all fall under "Goth Lolita" fashion. "EGL" and "Gothic Lolita" are sub fashions of Goth Lolita fashion like Sweet Lolitas etc. and are not to be used to describe the fashion in general. Just wanted to clarify that with you. Sorry if I'm wrong and I sound like a total moron

xd I get what you're trying to say. I refer to the style simply as the lolita style just because it's easier for me, but I guess it doesn't really bother me when people make that kind of mistake... Unless someone mixing up lolitas with kodonas. I have yet to see that happen because the difference is obvious enough.

I agree with what youre saying completely EGL and Goth lolita are notthe same.. thats why one has ELIGANT infront of it. But i think that goth lolita and gothic lolita are the same thing.Just a s a goth kid is the same as a gothic.. cause gothic is a describing word for goth ^^; just my oppinion..

I usually always say EGL... because thats the type I most commonly dress in... *shrug* When I'm refering to all of it in general, I just call it Loli.

Blackberry-Sage I usually always say EGL... because thats the type I most commonly dress in... *shrug* When I'm refering to all of it in general, I just call it Loli. I agree with that. And just calling it Loli is a really smart idea!because almost all the styles are Loli.. besides like aristocrat. But you cant be perfect.. I think theres really no general name for it becides gothic.. but gothic is generaly meant for western styles..and Gothic loli is only refering to the Lolita styles.. and not all of the styles (i.e. sweet or country) arent really gothic at all.I think people just name it after the general style that is seen or used which is EGL.

My opinion...
EGL- Specific style Gothic lolita- has become more a generalizaion of the styles, you can pretty much tell when people are using it one way or the other... so theres not much trouble with the issue.

I do agree. To me, I would think EGL is more Formal, and GL is cutesy. All of it is doll-like, to me. Adorable.
Though, one of my boyfriends grandmothers collects porcellain dolls, so I want to be dressed in Lolita when I meet her. XDD

This is a good topic to bring up; I know people have different versions of what they also consider to be "legitimate" lolita styles. For me, in the US, although I tend to prefer the egl and sweet lolita styles, I also take influences from other western fashions, and don't consider a lot of what I wear to be part of the Japanese lolita styles. I don't think that there really are any names for any western styles, though, since it's a relatively "new" thing, and so often gets irritatingly shoved under the lables of "cosplay" or "anime." I'm sorry this post is so confusing. ^_^;; I would clear it up, but i have to run... (Welcome and "hello" to all everyone who's joined this guild since May. I don't have much internet access over the summer, so I haven't met you yet.)
