The firey male was just loving the baking sunshine weather that had plagued the forest recently. The heat of spring was his time, one might say. All manner of prey animal wandered about for his taking, and he was well fed now. Even moreso today as he'd come upon a pair of rabbits that never saw him coming. His fur was filled out and shiney, sleek from having lost his thick undercoat, and his lean muscular build had returned. It was like the wandering fire had never incurred a loss. Evening was approaching. From the look of it, sunset was going to be absolutely spectacular today. Fierj found himself at the crest of a treeless hill to watch the spectacle of fire erupt in the sky and the first flicker of starlight touch the ground. Yes, he was certainly getting more in tune with his surroundings once more, finding the groove of fitting in with a land he was beginning to know as his own. The only thing missing was company, but once again the fire wolf was convincing himself that all things came in time. After all, his logic had been right about his last pack. He didn't need them anyway, he was perfectly suited to being the hunter on his own if he had to. Knowing so for certain now felt absolutely glorious, especially now that he was basking in the first orange flame in the sky that marked the passing of another day.

The warmth of spring was welcome to the bitter wolfess. One could even say she enjoyed it, if she could enjoy anything at all. No longer would water linger about the land in the form of snowflakes. And no longer would the cold n** at her thin, unhealthy coat. She was just as scrawny and underfed as ever, but at least in this change of season food was more abundant and she wouldn't have to waste energy on staying warm.
And the last few days had been so very lovely and dry. She was able to move through the forests and medows without fear. It was a beautiful feeling, even for one who seemed to hate life so. The only thing that would make it perfect would be to obtain her goal-but since there were still no signs of her illusive sister she carried on the best she could.
She let out a breath through her nose, peering with violet eyes at the splash of color that coated the sky. Hmph. So it was night already? She could feel her body shake beneath her weight and knew she would have to retire soon. With her health in such poor condition she had very low stamina. Resting was her last saving grace. With a shake of her head she continued along, her tail drifting along absently behind her.

It took a moment for the quiet sounds and a familiar scent to really take hold in Fierj's mind, but when it did his ears flicked and he glanced back over his shoulder, scraggles of light illuminating a striped coat pattern that was well hidden against darkening trees. It was the low sigh and lucky direction of a soft wind that had alerted him, or else she could have escaped his attention entirely.
Eager for another attempt at conversation with this wolfess, Fierj sprang to his feet. He was ready for her this time, she was a shade off her rocker, bitter and violent. That was knowledge he would use to steel himself against fleeing this time.
Fierj found himself wishing almost desperately that he had a meal to share. The striped wolfess looked just as scraggly and starved as the last time. Hadn't spring brought her a reprieve?
Softly he called out to her, "A pleasure spotting you again. Lovely weather, thankfully. Care to join me watch the sunset, lady?" He was purposely over polite, kind. Memory served well to her attitude though, and he was prepared for a hateful rejection to his offer.

Starla paused and took a moment to recognize she was being called. Perhaps it was the light-headedness due to hunger. That or she wasn't really paying much attention. Or it very well could be that she was so unused to company that she wasn't used to being called on in the first place. She turned her head slightly, looking at him with bright eyes that didn't show a scrap of interest. She wrinkled her nose slightly to show her distaste at the prospect of company. But she was mellow in comparison to their last meeting-she had no water to aggitate her mood and she had some sense with that off her list of worries.
"Why would you want to watch a sunset with me? Better yet, why would I want to watch one with you?" she asked with a snort.

Fierj sat back on his haunches and watched her curiously, deep grey eyes flickering. Alright, so she hated the prospect of company. But at the very least there was an opening for him to argue his point. He would prove he was worth spending time with if it took all night, and to that end he was dedicated. Pulling out flashy gentlemanly courtesy, he responded in his soft tone, "I would like to watch one with you for the sake of it, because a wolf to smile with makes some things all the sweeter. Or, perhaps I should simply keep myself right here, and watch the reflected light dance over your fur. That might be just as pleasureable to watch."
He smiled. Alright, so it was a little over the top. Oh well. "Though a reason for you I can't guess. Because you'd simply like a friend, perhaps. I don't know. Tell me, suppose you did decide to watch with me. Why would you? What would sway you?"

She grimaced at his flowery language. What a waste of words. Even in her youth when she had been quite normal she had never been poetic. She was the logical type and full of reason. Perhaps that was how she got so twisted-take reason too far and you become illogical. But in any case, his flattery was far from being accepted happily. "I do think you've gotten worse since the last time. And you were pretty bad before," she commented with a sharp eye of skpeticism. This was such a waste of time. "Nothing would sway me. I get nothing out of watching a sunset or spending time with you."

Slowly his head tilted. Alright, that avenue was a horrible failure, but no matter. Fierj made a mental note to drop the flattery, he was probably not the best at it anyway. Quietly he let out a soft sigh. "Honestly, I'm just trying to get you to smile and have a reasonable conversation. So I'm bad at being persuasive." He got to his feet, and came slowly down the knoll towards her, ears tilted back in his classic show of nonaggression, tail down. He halted rather close to her, but not something that would be considered an uncomfortable closeness. The last thing Fierj wanted was to drive her off, or worse, find himself in a position that would lead to running off again.
"How about this then," he was trying again, taking a different approach, "Tell me why you don't like me. Maybe then I can persuade you, if I know whats holding you back."

Starla's ears, in turn, flicked back in irratation. She'd prefer him running off, to be honest. It'd give her some peace. But she was too tired to start a fight-she had to save what energy she had to find her sister. His questions, however, grated at her nerves. Why couldn't he be normal and just leave her be? No one else liked to waste her time like this. "I don't like anyone," she replied simply, "So that question is rather pointless." Or, that was what she'd like others and herself to believe. She'd much rather blind herself with bitterness then dwell on small affections in her already corrupted soul.

The male whuffed under his breath. He had anticipated that the striped femme would be just as difficult this time around, though honestly, a little break in the ice would be appreciated wholeheartedly. Still, he couldn't run off like last time. It was shameful, he should have had a little more empathy and patience than that, it was out of his character to flee.
"Its not pointless, its quite reasonable. I can't refute evidence against me without knowing what it is first. Disliking everyone is whats pointless, letting bitterness get to you is pointless. You said, last time, that you had nothing left because of your sister." He paused, staring at her for a moment, seeking her eyes out with his. Fierj emminated patience. She wasn't going to get rid of him until he'd talked some sense into her. Her world was so skewed, it needed fixing. "You can have something. I'll prove it to you, if I have to. There's a life waiting for you outside your hatreds. Its the truth because it makes sense. If you keep your ways up, eventually you'll have nothing left on this course." He was really on a roll with this, letting his fact based mind start to roll through and extinguish the flowery language. "You get your goal and then what? Nothing. So the logical thing to do is change the goal. I can show you, there's proof. Hell," his voice was steady rising, his speech nearing an end, "I'm walking proof that goals and lives can change for the better after the worst hardship."

"Are you quite done preeching?" Starla sneered, showing white teeth. She met his gaze with her own, sharp and piercing and completely closed minded. "Because I'm done listening. You can talk all you like, but that doesn't change my sole purpose that remains in this world. So go ahead, waste more of your breath. It's not my problem." She snorted and began walking again. She was done standing idle and being forced into a lecture. He could do what he pleased, she didn't give a rats a**. Except for him being here meant she couldn't rest soon like she wanted. Damn.

Ears folded flat back at the show of white teeth, which was almost comedic since the firey wolf was so much larger than the other. He wasn't going to let her get away, though. Springing to his feet, Fierj started after the striped femme. "You can't turn off your ears, so I doubt you're done listening. But you're right, my breath isn't your problem, though I still choose to use it on you. Sooner or later you'll have to face facts." Quietly he noted that her stance and walking indicated how tired she was, but if he couldn't get across to her now there might be no helping her. And that, he refused to live with.

"Who do you think you are, hm? God? Trying to save my poor soul?" Starla sniped with a sour look. Couldn't he just ******** off like everyone else? He wasn't going to change her mind. "Well let me tell you this-I'm not changing my mind. There is nothing you can show me that could possibly do that," she snapped. Her heart was set. She was a broken, tortured soul who found a poisonous release in vengence. It was the only way that she knew how to handle it at this point. And until the deed was done she could look at nothing else. And yet, though the realization never sunk in, once Ieshia gone she'd be again without purpose. Back to where she started.

"No, just trying to be a friend." He smiled at her genuinely as he could, head coming round so there was no way for her to miss the expression. So she was venemous, all things could heal with time and realization. Of that he would not relent. Starla was headed for quite a long night at this rate. "I'm not asking you to change. I'm asking you to open up and look at the truth!" He bounded in front of her and stood sideways to block her way. The battle of wills had begun. "Tell me why you're so steeled in this." Fierj demanded softly, voice concerned but firm.

Starla felt a headache coming on. Ugh. Why did he have to be cheerful? Or at least pretend to be? That grated on her nerves. Him and his endless hope...what a fool. Reminded of another, precious boy who had had hope in everything she suddenly felt angry. Baffoon! "Because she ruined my ******** life! Why do you think?" she growled, her hackles rising a little. She didn't expect him to understand. No matter what he had said in their last meeting, his situation could never be like hers. It wasn't the same. And "hope" was worthless. It wouldn't bring Luca back.

This time he didn't wince. One point for readiness, anyway. Cold gray eyes stared at her flare of anger almost lifelessly. In that moment he understood why this tiny bitter wolfess held his attention, that fire reminded him of himself. Or had he realized that before? Fierj couldn't be certain. But he did understand what she meant. "And what am I supposed to say? That I want you to tell me about it, and that I want to help you? You would say that you don't care. That I feel for you, and I'm here for you? I think you need a wolf to tell you that he understands, and he can show you a way for things to be alright even if it takes time, though you'll never admit it." Well. He'd gone off on a bit of a rant again. Fierj snapped his mouth shut and sat down in front of her again, a little tense. He could help, he told himself again. There was always a way. Hope would find a way.
