I felt the need to kick things off here.
So.
This is first thing I thought of.

I abselouty HATE ANY religion influencing laws and schools or ANYthing.
I refuse to stand for the pledge.
The whole God thing.
Oh yeah.
You may think it's stupid.
But what about the Muslims?
How do THEY feel about it?
How do Jehovah's Witnesses feel about it?!
But yet school's still like to force them to stand.
I hate it.

What do you think?

I used to just skip over the god part in the pledge, but now I also refuse to stand. I think it's incredibly stupid to say the pledge at school at all.

Most schools do not entirely pay attention to the seperation of church and state law. It's so stupid!!! My high school even has a Christian Club thing. They meet before school where everybody walks past while they're praying and stuff. Personally, I find that somewhat offensive and I know others do also.

And the freshman advanced English class (which I was in) teaches a whole quarter on "the Bible as a text." They keep saying that they're just teaching it as a book and nothing to do with religion, but the Bible is entirely about religion! Especially when you have the Christian prudes in the class sticking up for every single thing you're reading from in class....it is/was horrible!!!

redface sorry for the long rant...i'm just very opinionated about this.... redface srry!

Hai, it is.
But they just say that it's "being patriotic".
My whole family hates me for doing it.
And Mother LOVES to spread it around.
She's such an attention whore.
"OOooooh.....
My daughter's a Satanist or something.
Look at me!
I made an evil daughter.
WEeeee!!!!!one!!!!1!!!!eleven!!!"

Anyway v.V

It's not just schools.
The law doesn't pay attention to it either.
Look at the whole gay marriage thing.
It's not immoral to them because that's what they believe naturally.
It's what they believe because of their religion.
The only good excuse they have is that the Bible says it is wrong.
Then they say they aren't talking from a religious point.
OOOOooooh yeeeaaaah....

My school has a Christian thing too.
They meet after school and don't bother anyone so I don't pay attention or care.

The only way that they should teach the Bible as a text is being completely open to all ideas.
A.K.A. Excepting the fact that the Bible was NOT written by God but by man, translated many times, and very possibly could be completely different than what the Christians thought it said.
They would also need to have more open things.
Like open debate.
No arguing though.
Which would be rather hard.
People would need to be COMPLETELY open minded.
Most Christians have a problem doing this so that would be unlikely.

I could see it being alright in certain environments.
But it wouldn't work in most.
I would'a talked to the principal or something.

[-Hehe. So am I XD-]

I personally think that state and religion have no place to be together in the same sentance.
I just moved to a private school this year, and we don't have to say the pledge, and we don't even have a flag in every room like in public schools.
I love it.

But last year we had to say the pledge every morning, and if you didn't you got a detention. I stood, but I didn't even open my mouth.
It was an interesting way to avoid detention and stand up for my opinions.

Our loverly president said this, and I quote, "One nation, one faith."

Yeah...
One nation, one faith my a**.
And this country elected this guy.
Did you know that the Germans elected Hitler to office also?

I hate him so much [-Bush-] v.V

Meh.
My teachers threaten to call my parents every time.
I always smirk and say, "Go ahead love, she knows. She supports it. So does the constitution and I'm sure any judge would see it my way too." in a sing song like voice and then I walk away.
Apparently I flash them one of my "I going to kill you looks" that I give to people sometimes with out realizing it o.o;;;
They never call either XD

Realleh?
We're learning about the Holocaust right now.
[-In English o.O Wtf?-]
So that's an interesting tid bit.

Yeah, I hate our president as well. When did our government become all about the bible?! seriously...our government is supposed to be behind the constitution. But, they're all for the intermingling of church and state it seems... scream

My school doesn't care if i stand or not.
I just get weird looks from classmates, but there's quite a few of us that don't say it (most of my friends at least...lol), so they'd get a lot of crap if they tried to make us say the pledge!

Kids everyday [-in the same class-] look at me weird and say things.
Then they're just too lazy to stand and they get shitty when I don't have to stand but they do.
I yell at them and tell them I actually have a reason so I'm not some lazy a** idiot.
In which case they ask if I want to fight o.O
I hate wanna be "gangsters".

Meh.
It's all the stupid Christian nazi's.
They just need some one to hate to make their pathetic lives intresting.
So they pick gays.
And other religions.
Other ideas, etc.
It's annoying.

Ya ya. I have my teachers b***h at me all the time for not standing when they say the pledge. ^^; It's pretty funny....seeing as I'm not the only one that does it in my classes.

Thank you for the invite, first off.

There should definitely be a seperation. Not everybody on this frikin' Earth is a Christian and/or believes in teh Jezuses.

Here's how I say MY pledge:

I pledge allegiance
To the flag
Of the United States of America.
And to the Republic for which it stands
One Nation
Under the sky
Indivisible
With liberty and justice for all.

I've gotten in trouble on some occasions and had to say it alone, so I use that one. I mean, how could you get offended by that? It's true, innit? Plus, I'm the Agnostic-leaning-towards-Atheism.

Now, there are occasions where they'd go like this, you know, some days:

I pledge allegiance
To the flag
Of the United States of America.
And to the Republic for which it stands
One Nation
Under Chuck Norris
Indivisible
With liberty and justice for all.

And this.

I pledge allegiance
To the flag
Of the United States of America.
And to the Republic for which it stands
One Nation
Under Canada
Indivisible
With liberty and justice for all.

Usually the kid to the left gives me a mean "DUBYATEETODAEFF" look.

First off, thanks for the invitation!

I have the luck to live in Germany, were school and church have not much to do with each other.
(only at some private katholic schools)
We only have two religious lessons per week (and that´s optional. If you don´t want/are not christian you don´t have to)
I only take it, because I get good marks there (and it´s better than going to another class for that time)

I think that they really should it make optional everywhere, and not pushing others into the christian religion.

First off, thank you for the invitation Toxic, and you're right, your serious forum is quite lonely, hopefully, I can change some of that. ^^

Now, for the separation of church and state. The pledge is the biggest example of the separation being bullshit, "One nation under God." rolleyes

I don't even stand up for it, although I do believe in a God, just not the Christian interpretation of one. Also, I don't believe just standing up, saluting the flag, and memorizing a silly little chant will install you with the utmost loyalty in your country.

Rampant nationalism is baaaaaaaaaaad when you have nothing to be proud of at the moment.

You're welcome :3
Yeah.
I was tryin' tah get some people who post in the Extended Discussion forum a lot into here but apparently yer' the only one so far sweatdrop

Yeah it is kinda.. not meaning anything.
Saying something doesn't mean you feel any way about it.
Maybe you like the country and are indeed loyal but you don't need to say every single day at school and at a lot of sports events.

If you're not liking the country.. well you can't even say that because you'll get into trouble I'm sure at schools.
[-Never really tried nor am I gonna >.<-]

Yeah.
Our president isn't the best right now and isn't making the best decisions.
Not too many people are proud :/
