It is a really really really great card. It's effect is awesome and it can be used in almost every deck. But I do not know if it is the best card ever. There are cards I rather use...

Okay, if you have a crappy deck and you throw in a Black lotus to play your scathe zombies first turn, then yes, it's a crappy card that does not justify it's 2k+ price tag.
Otherwise, the card is just bat-s**t insane.

there are very few, if any decks that could not be improved by putting in a black lotus. although yes, a weak deck won't be made into a killing machine with its addition

well, its pretty good, and our casual group allows it (no one has any though...). I don't think there are any of my decks i'd run it in even if i had one though.

Let me put it in simple terms.
Out of the nine most powerful cards. the Black Lotus can be used in any deck without any questioning of it's intent.
the five Mox are best in decks that run their own color, theres no point in running a Mox Ruby in a monoblue deck is there? (Except for a little push for Power Sink)
Ancestral Recall, Timewal, and Force of Will are three of the absolute most powerful blue cards in any situation.... but not so much in a non blue deck.
but the Lotus, the Lotus, it can effectively turn one seethign sopng into a stuffy doll, drop a plains for a guilty concience, win second turn.
it can play your Dragonstorm earlier, any combo you have, it can always help to go off three turns earlier, or get the extra push for three mana without paying a cent (unlike Dark Rit where you really only get two free mana from it)

Black Lotus is NOT the most powerful card in the game; Yawgmoth's Will is. Vintage is not defined by Loti, it is defined by Will and Bazaar of Baghdad.

There's a 10 turn clock for you. sweatdrop btw Cradle_2_Grave, I thought Mind's Desire was the most powerful card in the game, more or less letting you play your entire deck for free. Clearly the will is run in that beautiful deck as well, but Desire is more powerful.

Black Lotus isn't the most powerful card in the game, but it is considered the most valuable.

Storm decks in Vintage are broken because of Desire and Will, but Desire is also used in TEPS. So yeah, GG.

Most powerful card ever made is YawgWin, but Black Lotus is powerful on itself. Together however they are an amazing combo in any deck.

i see all the arguments with whats the best, but technically, nothing is the best cool hate to break it, there are too many broken cards and too much stuff that works perfectly in situations, cards are the only the "best" in the game when they are put in their game winning moment, but there is an answer to any card out there, if you have a tormads crypt in play yawgs is a pos...as much as i love the card sad but true, lotus theres not much you can do for and most of the combo decks in vintage rely on grabbing a lotus 1st turn to blow off and win the game....cant really drop a null rod in time for that
and then for storm there is always stifle i mean the only cards you cant really stop from resolving are elvish spirit guide and the new simian spirit guide or whatever its called lol if we're going by what cant be stopped then those 2 are the best cool
everything is a matter of point of views and how things are played...if put in its element technically anything can be the best but if not then it blows like any other crappy card in magic would...

Ok as far as best ever my personal oppinion says yes. best ever, how ever i think every one can agree it is the best mana producing card ever made. if you think about it a 0 casting cost that produces 3 of ANY ONE color, that is unrivaled in magic even today. there has never in my oppinion been a card that could match it. even guilded lotus, was no were near its mana producing quality, though yes guilded latus is very powerful still no were near black lotus...well unless you count Blacker lotus lol
