Do you have any really good values or morles that you stick by?
PostPosted: Fri Apr 20, 2007 12:33 pm
* Life is a coin. You can spend it any way you want, but you can only spend it once. - Lillian Dickson

*Always be modest, and be proud of it!

*A clear conscience is usually the sign of a bad memory.

* Don't sweat petty things - or pet sweaty things.

You can reap lessons of morality from just about anything if you know how to look for it. You can learn morality from old Shaw bros kung fu movies or even ocassional episodes of South Park. There's nothing inherently philosophical/spiritual/or moral about a systematic means of combat. Nor did martial arts originate from Buddhist/Taoist beliefs...Rather, any morality or Buddhist/Taoist influences in martial arts is because Buddhist/Taoists practiced martial arts...You're not really learning morality from punching and kicking but rather from the instructor's way of teaching. It's the instructor's influence on the material that leads to the illusion that martial arts and virtue are integrated just as it was the Buddhists/Taoists culture that cultivated the association of martial arts and eastern philosophy. Bottom line: martial arts and morality are separate things and while are often associated togehter (traditional cultural influence) can exist as separate and individual beings. Western martial arts such as wrestling and boxing are perfect examples of this concept.

you don't always have to fight, but when you do fight for your life and everything you hold dear. Fight like someone took away your icecream wink

one of our instructor taught us that, it was pretty funny.

Drop the 'e' and we can be happy. 'Morale' and 'moral' are two different words.
