Umo lay in the sun, basking for a few dull moments. Just a few moments to sit and relax and enjoy the rays beaming down onto his pelt. He was getting old, he could almost feel the ache of age pulling against his joints. He blinked his crimson eyes slowly and sighed. It was a good day. His family was asleep at their shelter and he wandered off a bit, to enjoy some quiet time. He flexed his dark paws and smiled too himself. He was happy here, not in a pride and not restricted too a certain area-though he knew Kika would feel safer in a pride. He smiled, resting his head down upon his front feet, stretching his hinds. It was a warm place, these lands that they bordered. Something about being away from the swamplands haunted him... though he was certain.
They would not be sought out. They were exiled and they were safe. They were safe here.
He glanced back too them, seeing his eldest son approaching. He smiled too him and lifted himself from his resting stance. Tope, you have risen early today. He said passivly, his deep voice flat. He smiled and patted the dirt next too him, for Tope to sit

Tope had woken up to find that his father was not at his usual spot, next too his mother. He stood and stepped closer too his mom, looking down at her. She was so beautiful and he loved her so much-how could she have fallen in love with his father? He was nothing. A has been-a horrid mate.. and a horrid father. He scowled, looking away from her and looking around, spotting his father lazing over in the sun. Of course, sitting around. Not doing anything. He smirked, walking towards him. He was going to set his father straight. He was-he was.
His father noticed him approaching and Tope couldn't help to smile, though inside he was very upset. He looked nervously down too where his father had patted. He blinked slowly and sat down, looking anywhere but his Dad. We need to talk Dad
He said, not looking too his father and not saying anything about his fathers comment. He could damn well wake up when he wanted too. We need to talk about when we were exiled.

Umo watched his son approach and smiled. His son was getting so old-he was particularly fond of his eldest son. The fact that he carried his own markings, the twisted and knarled marks of a tree-he liked to think. He smiled, looking up at him as he settled down onto the the ground next too him and nodded too him. He caught the strained sound in Tope's voice and moved closer too him, reaching a paw out to be closer too him. He listened, his ears perking. Well then, lets talk. He said, looking worridly at his son with crimson eyes.
He blinked slowly, much like Tope did most of the time. About the time they were exiled. He looked too his son. Tope could barely remember those days, the children were so small that Umo was not so sure if Tope knew what he was asking-but he decided that if his son wanted to talk, he'd listen. What about the exilement?

Tope scratched at the dirt they lay on, wishing his father would stop being so damn happy all the time. What did he have to be happy about. They were stuck in the forsaken land-because of him. Because he was stupid-and too much of a softie to do anything about anything. He hated it. He glanced up at his father and could feel the rage filling his face. He stood up, glowering over his father defiantly. He felt his pink eyes lite up with rage.
What about the Exilement? Everything! What about how you caused all this trouble. You're the reason Adhi can't talk right! You're the reason why we can't have a home. You're the reason I hate everyone.... I hate everyone but MOM He shouted, his claws digging into the ground. I-I hate you.He said, panting. He looked up at his father with a new look in his eyes.
Marsh child the darkness will rise from the deep. And carry you down into sleep

Umo stared up at his son, his crimson eyes wide. He had never heard such an outburst from his son-never in his life. He blinked, looking down too the ground, mouth agape. He stood, looking down too his boy, almost raising a paw to swat him a good one-but didn't. He was not a father who hit his children for outcries. He sat down, looking sternly too his son. So, this is why Tope was so sensitive about their lifestyle. He blamed it all on Umo. Though in reality-it was partly Umo's fault. He had not left when Kika had gone into labor.
He shook his head, not sure what to say. His son has just accused him of many things and Umo was not so sure they were true. Ardhi, there was nothing wrong with Ardhi. He could talk, who cared if he talked in odd ways... and the Girls-they were fine. He shook his head. Tope, I know you feel that my actions caused our exilement but-let me explain... I did not leave your mother... I could not. I could not leave her. He said, looking down for a moment. He swallowed the lump in his throat. His son, hated him. Umo's heart sank.
His-Son-Hated-Him.

Tope began to pace back and forth. Why wasn't his father admitting to his crimes? Why was he defending himself, there was nothing to defend. It was his fault, his fault alone. He pounded his paws against the ground, turning too his father. He sensed his Dads want to strike him and he dared his father too. He puffed his chest out and stared directly at his father. You could have left her... but because you are a coward you wouldn't... you ignored the rules or what ever that damned pride said about birthing... AND YOU EXILED US!He shouted again, shaking his head back and forth violently.
This horrid feeling of Rage. It was almost as strange as when he had first met Jini. He hadn't told his father about Jini. He didn't want to. Ever. If he had kids-they'd never meet thier grandfather.
He spun too his father and stepped right into his face.
You are nothing-you almost got Mom and us kids killed-but because you couldn't 'pull' yourself from her side-you could have gotten us killed Umo!

Umo stood up fully. Of all the things he was-he was not a coward. He felt anger bristle where it had not before, in his cheeks and his paws. He had never really been angry before-except for when he was young. He stared at his son straight in the eye, stepping closer too him. His son was accusing him of things he did not understand. He narrowed his eyes. When did you learn to be so disrespectful Tope? I never taught you that? He asked cooly, his eyes no longer narrowed but questioning.
When Tope got into his face, he let out a roar. This was total uncalled for. He glared deep into Tope's face and shook his head. Do you know nothing. I stayed by your mothers side-because I am her mate. You would understand Tope, if you had been in my paws.
I would not have let them kill anyone. I would have fought until my last breath left me.
You will stop raising your voice too me Tope. He demanded

Tope lost it. He felt anger fill his entire body until is rage exploded from his chest like a missle. He roared, throwing himself at his father in his rage. How dare he call him Dissrespectful (it was true), How dare he tell him he didn't understand (he didn't), how dare he say something that he would not do, he was a chicken and would have run, leaving them to die (not true), and HOW DARE HE DEMAND HIM. He swung his gloved paw at his father, catching him sharp across the face. He felt the flesh drag, blood streaming between his toes. He had caught Umo across the forehead, just above his gnarled tree mark, and tore deep. Blood began to stream down Umo's face as Tope turned away, hurrying away from his father. He didn't want to be dealt a blow.
He got far enough from his father that if he did try to attack, he'd be able to run. He sat there, glaring at his bleeding father. Don't tell me what to do Umo.

Umo was stunned. What had happened. He felt something hot and searing pouring down his forehead into his eyes. He stepped backwards, his chest tight. What had happened. His sons fury-had caused this pain. He reached up with a paw to wipe away the burning blood so he could see his son retreating-with a menacing look burning in his eyes, his mothers eyes.
Umo balked and looked too his son. W-what... Tope... What-s wrong with you.
He looked up and stepped closer, his rage begining to build in his frame. He looked up too his son and felt his fathers rage-what he had feared in himself for so long. He stepped closer to Tope, his claws extending as he lifted his paw.
He then caught himself, in the midst of hurthing his son. His eyes softened and his paw lowered as his deep-bumbling self sat down. His son had not called him father.
He was Umo now.

Tope bounded away from his fathers reach, not sure if what he was feeling was fear or pain. He blinked and looked paniced, before he looked up to see his fathers face-full of hte rage his father forced himself to forget-and he became afraid. His fury at his father sank into a bit of fear and he was afraid indeed.
Tope stepped away from his father and shook his head violently. There was nothing wrong. Not now-not ever.
He spun around and ran. As fast as his legs would carry him. He was not going to stay here-not with the thought of his fathers blood staining his paws.
He ran. Hard and long.
Marsh child the darkness will rise from the deep-and carry you down into sleep
