Well, tonight I had an event at my college (the first event of its kind here) addressing the issues of religious tolerance. Sadly, there was a very small attendance rate, but those who did attend had pretty good ideas about how to address the issue.
Anyway, without going into the details of the event, I decided to start this thread to find out if there are religious tolerance groups at the schools (college, or other type of school) that any of you go to?
If there is, what exactly do they do?
If there isn't, has anyone tried to start one, or is the campus tolerant enough without one?

That is an amazing idea, in fact I should talk to one of my teachers about organizing something of the sort. I have friends of all different religions, so it could exsist easily, but it would also be pretty interesting to see what could actually be done about it.
Thank you! I'll definetley work on something like this for my high school.

My school is technically Christian, so we have Christian Union, and we're meant to go to chapel every morning. Anyone that has a religion other than Christianity will go to their own religious services on Tuesday mornings and the rest of the days will spend time studying their texts. Friday mornings is mutli-faith chapel, and nothing religious happens at all so everyone goes.
We don't have a religious tolerance group because there isn't any religious intolerance in our school. We get the odd Jew/Hindi/Sikh/Muslim/otherfaithhere joke, but nothing's ever meant by it.

Tolerance groups aren't just to keep hatred and stereotypes at bay, it's also an understanding thing as well. People often have no problem with a religion, they just don't know about it. It is another use for Religious Tolerance groups, is to teach.

But because people are laughing and smiling, they think that you can't reply, "You know, that's not funny. It's offensive, it's based on erroneous assumptions, and it shows a lack of both education and compassion to be spreading jokes like that."

Here we have the (my school's name) Freethinker's Guild, which promotes religious tolerance of all kinds: it's actually quite nice. We also have the Gay-Lesbian Alliance, aimed at understanding and tolerance of Gays/Lesbians, which is also something I like. 3nodding

My friends generally lay off the Jewish Jokes around me, and I normally shame someone for telling them in my presence, but people often do tell me horrible jokes to hurt my feelings as well...Most of them aren't even funny, they're just horrible.

The club is actually nonexistent. One of the plans for the group I'm helping to start is to promote tolerance for all minorities. We have a small enough population (only about 500 students total) to get away with just one group.

Anyway, I can't think of a good sponsor...

My college has about 16,000 students? The volunteer EMS squad - my social group - is about 1/3 Jewish, 1/3 Muslim, 1/3 Christian/Buddhist/Hindu/Agnostic/Other. We sound like a horrible group of people if you listen to us talk, though, even though we're very racially, culturally, and religiously diverse - jokes about every culture, race, religion, gender, sexuality, stereotype, and anything else you can think of fly around in quarters.... So, I think it IS possible to joke and not mean it, but only in very limited circumstances, with _friends_ - who can laugh at it and joke back.

Not 2000 per grade- 2000 total. blaugh I guess we have a large building? Never really thought about it, really. I assumed others were much worse. sweatdrop At least it's fairly new! Though we've had cool construction on it this year adding stuff. ^^
