Kay, so I just figured out that Rem is a girl. mad D (Shuddup, I don't have money to buy the manga!) I was watching Death Note on Veoh and they referred to her as 'she', and I was like "zomg, translation error?", but I looked in a different fansub, and it was still 'she'. Then, I was all "ohsnaps lesbian." BUT THEN in episode 25 or 26, I think, Misa hugged Ryuk and was like "I'M SO HAPPY YOU'RE BACK!" and he was like "Sorry, I'm male."
Now, I guess that could've been some kind of translation mistake, but wouldn't that mean the Ryuk is gay, too?
Soo are most Death gods gay? :3

But I distinctly remember Ryuk saying that he's "shy around females"....so you never know.....

Hmm, it's possible; however I kinda doubt it due to the fact he hasn't made any "sexual innuendo" towards Light. Haha, I'd laugh so hard if Ryuuku started hitting on Yagami, that would seriously make my Death Note experience thoroughly memorable.

Though in the manga Ryuk mentioned himself being shy around girls...
But I'm guessing shinigami could probally have a variety in sexual preferences...just like humans...?
But even if they wanted to, they can't really act upon it.
As stated in the rules of the Death Note! biggrin (If you've read the manga.)

Yeah I kinda figured Rem was a girl, she sounds like one.... also she's kinda a purply pinky colour... xd
And I think Ryuk said that "I'm male" Cause he didn't like women rubbing against him....
Maybe it caused him "problems" xd
Though the idea of them being gay is kinda funny

As for Ryuk, I thikn he ment he was shy around girls, I don't think it was an indication that he's gay. Though, the rule only stated that male and female shinigami can't have sex, that doesn't mean that they can't have a relationship with eachother. After all, you don't have to have sex with someone to love them. I guess the shinigami could be gay aswell, the rule didn't say anything about two same genders of shinigamis haveing sex with eachother.

As far as I know, Rem is the only female Shinigami featured in Death Note. I've only got to volume 10, and I don't know how well my memory serves me, but yeah, I can only think of Rem...
But, at first, when I first saw Rem, I thought she was a female...But then after it all said she loved Misa, I thought she was a male...So, when it all got cleared up and all...It said something about the affection a Shinigami feels towards a human can be just fondness or something like that...
I have no idea about Ryuk, though. He is a total mystery. He seems to have no affection for anyone whatsoever.

In the manga, when Rem tells Misa that she has affection for her, she actually specifies "Not anything sexual, I'm female, after all" or something along those lines. And no, you don't see any other female shinigami in the manga. Rem, I think, loves Misa as a good friend/daughter figure (heh). I think Ryuk told Misa "I'm male" because he didn't want to fall in love with her.
Either way, I don;t care if they're gay or not. ^o^
