|. Intro.

The blue moon rises
As the last light dies
And the twilight star
Lights the waves from afar.

When fire and ice
Change the roll of the dice
The last city falls
Destiny calls.

When the fine line between
Goes unseen
Gather together
'fore gone forever.

When fire and ice
Change the roll of the dice
The last city falls
Destiny calls.

||. The Background.

Welcome to the world of Danarath. More specifically, welcome to the Isle of Sand and Rock. At least, that's what they call it on the map and in the history books. History has a way of being just plain wrong.

The natives, however, call it Soltanarath, 'Land of the Sun's Promise'. It is a land with tropical forests and desert-like plains, surrounded by a chain of mountains and a shallow beach of sand. Many odd species with odd names inhabit this land, with many oddities for the players, including the floating city of Ytratir, the most heavily rained on desert in existence, and the carnivorous Phuai tree. We will begin in the southern region, a heavily forested area near the city of Adei... A few days before the full moon...

|||. Culture.
Soltanarath has one major religion, worshipers of the sun, the Solmi. The priests govern the isle where ever a city is to be found. The island itself has one ruler, a ceremonial king chosen by bishops. However, they believe in science, and destroying the superstitions of magic, whatever the cost.

The cities are fairly easy to navigate, with their straight roads and monuments every few blocks. The roads are on the bottom level, with stairs leading towards everything. The second floor is built around the trees, and contains shops as well as houses. On the level above, the temple is built in a cleared area so that the sun may shine through.

Soltanarath has a diverse population, including Dryads, Errai, Dzalin, and Lephi, to name a few.

Depending on their age and rank, they have different letters before their names. { ex: Fa } The Cons. tells rank, and the vowel tells age.
Children have e, Teens a, Adults o, and elders u.
Merchants have l, Nobility has r, Craftsmen have t, and most others have f.

Dryad

Dryads aren't the spirits of trees, but the trees themselves. Created by accident by the Lephi, Dryads have quickly become one of the most populous species.

One day, many decades ago, a young Lephi, named Dryad, bonded to a strong earth elemental became lost in a forest. Longing for company and directions, the Lephi used all his power to convert the trees to human form. He was a young boy, prone to error, and was working with many trees all at once, so they looked slightly abnormal when transformed. Their skin and hair remained the same as when they were trees, and tree people were all about his size, though this probably was no accident. The tree people helped him find his way back to his own people, and took his name for their race.

Errai

The Errai are bird folk, content to live apart from other creatures. They are omnivorous, and have adapted thus. They have no government or rank, living instead in small family groupings.

Errai differ greatly in features from gender to gender. The males (Errili) have bright, vibrant colors and patterns. They have a wingspan of about eleven feet. The females (Errinai) are quite small, with a wingspan of about eight feet, almost too small to hold them aloft. Their plumage has very few patterns, mostly of light tans and greens. Both have long, slender claws used to grapple onto seemingly smooth surfaces. They have long, flowing tails and short curved beaks that slightly affect their speech.

Dzali

The Dzali are vain little creatures often mistaken for Fae folk from a distance, the difference being that Fae are less abundant and more humanoid. They are distantly related to both salamanders and fireflies. The Dzali deal in intricate pieces of art and jewelry.

Dzali slightly range in size depending on the region, from half of a foot to three inches. The Dzali are often nicknamed Ytolri, "Moon Lizards". They come in shades of green, blue, purple, and black, all of which gleam in moonlight. They have iridescent wings, feelers, and a tendency to gravitate towards light. Dzali skin is scaly and they are cold blooded.
(Cite Vina (BlueShadow) in the UnderLand for the race)

Fae

Fae are cute little creatures of the Sun. They are humanoid in appearance, but with quite a few very distinguishing features. First, they are quite small, only about four inches on average. Second, they have slightly oversized wings in bright hues. Their eyes are seldom any color but gold, and they rarely come out at night.

It is unknown how they came into existence, but they are similar to the sun flies that inhabit the plains. Fae are not intelligent creatures, but they can cover distances quickly.

Lephi

The Lephi descended from humans, but formed a bond with nature itself. A Lephi is bonded at birth with an elemental, giving the child much more potent magic than any other species. The elementals never die, but their partners often do, from old age, sickness, or other human conditions. Lephis prefer the northern plains, where they can ride a Tiro Bird without it getting stuck in the underbrush. They keep away from cities, as the priests there often order them burned.

A Tiro Bird is a large, six legged bird about the height of an ostrich. The front four legs look like most other bird legs, but the hind legs are bulkier, more muscular. It runs the plains on it's front legs, but when danger threatens, it uses it's hind legs to give it extra thrust. The wings are useless, however. The Tiro Bird has a short neck, and a long, curved beak. Its' plumage is bright red and orange.

Lephis are similar to humans, with a few major differences. For one thing, their hands have only four fingers (And by fingers, I include thumbs), though this does not affect their daily lives. They are taller than normal humans by about a foot.

Human

Humans are a minority on Soltanarath, existing there only since the island was connected to a continent. They once built great cities in the north, but those have long since become ruins. Their ancient religion has been adapted to the isle, but is not celebrated by many.

I must only assume that you know what a human looks like...

Clohyruns

Clohyruns have a basic human shape. Five fingers, five toes, a nose...you get the picture. However they are a little shorter. On average they are about 5'2. At first inspection they seem just to be regular humans. However their skin has a peculiar silver sheen to it and in the moonlight it seems to glow.

Clohyruns bleed gold. They do not scar, and at times they heal quickly, but not always. One day a deep gash could heal in two hours, but another time it could take a week to even show minimal signs of improvement.

They can easily manipulate both the sun and the moon, sometimes even the clouds (although only strong Clohyruns could do such a thing). It is said that the Clohyrun are the children of the Sun and Moon.
These beings are very rare. Their population is dispersed and it is not likely to find two Clohyruns living in the same place.
(Created by Indecisive Monkey)

Youland

The Youland are a race that are similar to humans and are often mistaken as such. However, there are a few major differences. Youlands have a long slender tail which varies in colour, from blues to reds, depending on gender and age. Another difference is that they have blue blood.

The Youlands are a race that rely heavily on magick and have strived to keep the power alive. However, this was looked down upon by society, to the point where their race was hunted down to near extinction by the other races.
(Created by Yo_Landa)

Mirrian

At first, anyone seeing a Mirrian would think an Elf got himself dipped in a dark color of paint. However, that of course, is not true. Mirrians are a race that has adapted to darkness, preferring darkness, caves, caverns and so forth. The sunlight hurts their eyes, and are, of course, not welcomed when they are identified by Sun-worshippers. Mirrian flesh is either ash black, deep blue or purple, and they have white hair or black hair. Mirrians are not the most grumpy of people. They tend to have short tempers but can, of course, be as patient as anyone else. They are leery of other races, especially those that have a tendancy to worship the sun. Mirrians are often seen above ground wearing cloaks to block the sun (and hide the giveaway color of their skin). A Mirrian's blood turns to stone upon the ground (and on others) though this does not bond to anything. Mirrian eyes tend to be gold or something of that sort, a bright color, a stark contrast to their eyes. Mirrians tend to be very quiet, though of course, there are exceptions. They rely heavily upon both brute force and magic in combat, which is part of their life. Mirrians enjoy bloodsports, but they have a great deal of honor involved, and they are by no means 'barbaric'. Duels are quite common in the Mirrian underground society, and Mirrians have been known to trade with outside races. Mirrians are rarely seen above ground, but some do, to explore the outside world. Mirrians, also, are unable to consume plants. Should they do so, they would either become sick, break out in hives, get rashes, have internal bleeding, get 'the runs', or die, in the worse cases. They can only consume fungi (i.e. Mushrooms) and meat. Most people believe this is because plants rely upon the sun, whereas fungi do not. This is actually quite true. |||||. The Cast.

Quote:
Gaian Name: KiyorakaNeko
Character Name: Fa'atnae My'yl (Fuh-At-Nay Me-Ell)
Gender: Female
Race: Dryad
Age: 19
Brief Description: Atnae is 4"9 with a slender build. She has light brown skin that almost seems grey, and leaf-green eyes. Her hair is normally a dark green, changing colors with the season.
Atnae is a chatterbox, becoming quite irritable when there is no one to talk to. She is quite stubborn, quite often getting herself into trouble she could have readily avoided.
Weapons/Abilities:
Ability to Talk to Trees: All Dryads are born with this gift, due to their origins. Unfortunately, trees have a very slow and limited thought process.
Carved Sjango Seed: The Sjango tree is notorious for it's razor thin seeds and impressive height. It grows almost straight up, the only exceptions are the limbs carrying seeds. The seeds plow into ground from about 50 feet in the air, and are quite hard to dislodge. This seed is carved so that there is a grip, and is carried in a sheath over the back.
Activity: Once a day at least

Quote:
Gaian Name: Yo_Landa
Character Name: Ash'rael. Ash, for short.
Gender: Female
Race: Youland. More in Description.
Age: 19
Brief Description: The Youland are a race that are similar to humans and are often mistaken as such.

As far as she knows, Ash'rael may be the last of her kind.

Ash'rael has a pale blue tail, with a bit of green at the end, signifying her ties with the elements water and earth. She is short for her age and thin. She has dark brown hair, which is cut to shoulder length and green eyes which tend to change slightly with her varying moods.
Weapons/Abilities:
Water: She can summon small rainstorms, but they don't get much more powerful than a drizzle.
Earth: The can coax a dying plant back into life. However, the larger the plant, the more taxing it is on her.
Activity: Every day, usually. Unless I'm REALLY busy.

Quote:
Gaian Name: Indesicive Monkey
Character Name: Fa'Siymerleia
Gender: Female
Race: Clohyrun
Age: 19
Brief Description: Siymerleia or Siy as she is called is rouchly 5 feet. She has a slender to build to go with her short height. Her skin is the trademark colour of all Clohyruns, a ivory colour that looks human but with a silver sheen that glows in the moonlight.

Her hair is a gold colour (and if she were bleeding it would match the colour of her blood). The curious thing about her face are her eyes. They are black as night with silver flecks in them representing the stars.
Weapons/Abilities: Like all Clohyruns she can manipulate the sun and moon to her liking. She has unnaturally strong powers and is one of the few that can also control clouds and hence the weather. Though these powers are not very finely tuned and need much practise.
A small golden dagger with streaks of silver through out it. There are pictures of the sun and moon engraved in to it.
Activity: Usually once a day if not once every 2

Lykus
Gaian Name: Lykus
Character Name: Trask Telor
Gender: Male
Race: Dzali
Age: 27
Brief Description: Trask has black scales and green eyes. He stands about a foot and a half tall. His wings are strangely missing, but he makes up for this with his agility, and has found other ways of making up for his inability to fly in that manner.
Despite his grim appearance, Trask is probably the most outgoing, optimistic and simply crazy person whom anyone has ever had the fortune to meet. He is extremely flirtatious with women of any race, and breaks up the serious of any situation with the utmost ease--though he is somewhat tactless in this, much to the annoyance his acquaintances.
Weapons/Abilities: Trask has the ability to control the wind around him to a minor extent, though it is enough to allow him to fly. He also possesses the ability to control the severity of a fire within a moderate distance of himself. He also enjoys the benefits of increased dexterity and agility, much higher than that of an average specimen of Dzali.
Activity: Every 1-2 days, under normal circumstances

Quote:

Gaian Name: ValenarrDeMirro
Character Name: Valenarr DeMirro
Gender: Male
Race: Mirrian
Age: 326 (Looks about 20 or so)
Valenarr, however, was a different case. He was exiled, cast out from the underground to live the rest of his days under the glare of the sun. He has ash black skin, golden eyes, white, long, flowing hair and often wears a brown cloak to block out the sun and hide himself. Most people think he is a passing monk. Beneath his cloak he wears a shirt of black metal chainmail, and he carries his weapons under the cloak. He is a very quiet person, perferring silence instead of banter, solitude to company, though he would eventually make a friend or two. His trust is not easily gained, save for in combat. He is strong mentally and physically,
Weapons/Abilities: Valenarr was never fond of magic, though he can cast a basic ice missile, magical missile, or fireball in someone's direction if need be. He, however, perfers to rely upon his scimitar and katana, which are imbued with several different auras, ranging from fire, ice, lightning, light, dark, water, poison, acid, and so forth. Only one can be activated at a time, however, so this puts a limit on what he can do.
Activity: Whenever I can. Hopefully every day if there's something for me to post...

Quote:
Gaia Name: Soloist
Character Name: To'Zilden Mertichard (Zilly)
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Age: 23
Description: Zilden is something of a genius. Albeit a scatterbrained addlepated idiot sort of genius. From the moment he was born, he lived to absorb knowledge. Books, tales, lore, facts, myths, Zilden never discriminated. His brain is probably one of the most complete archives of information anywhere on Soltanarath. When he ran out of new things to learn, he turned to inventing and engineering, further perpetuating his pursuit of knowledge.

Which is why his existence is kind of sad. Knowledgeable though he is on an unending multitude of subjects, he can never seem to recall the information upon command, but rather, can only remember offhand bits and pieces of information that are largely irrelevant to the situation he's in (i.e. "Oh that reminds me of this obscure fact about because it reminds of which is sort of related to . Oh what were we talking about? Oh yeah . That reminds me of this obscure fact about..." etc). Further going to waste are his good looks. Standing a mildly impressive 6'2" with well trimmed black hair, a strong jaw and brilliant blue eyes, Zilly has been the object of desire of several females of several races. The problem being that he is often to absorbed in a sketch of some menial object he finds fascinating, or perhaps the testing and modification of some outlandish new invention, it is also not uncommon for him to just be plain unaware that someone is there. He is not necessarily a cold-hearted though. Quite to the contrary, he is warm, enregetic and optimistic, even in the grimmest of situations. Whether this is because he is just a bright cheery person, or because he his lunacy shrouds his judgement is difficult to tell.

Weapons/Abilities: Not at all gifted at fighting, the only real weapon Zilden carries is a long dagger, normally used not for combat, but for removing foliage and other obstacles from his path while he explores. Much more useful to him, however, is his large leather pack, in which he carries a number of odd trinkets and inventions that aid him in being quite the master escape artist. He is also surprisingly intuitive at running away, making masterful escape routes and dissapearing acts out of what anyone else would consider the mundane. This only seems to happen when there is a great deal of pressure however.

Quote:
Gaian Name: Blank Valentine
Character Name: Celia Merphios
Gender: Female
Race: Clohyrun
Age: Twenty-two
Brief Description: Celia favors the water, it seems. Her aquatic motor skills are considered a latent talent within her, and allow her to be nimble in bodies of liquid. A small, meek cave behind a water fall serves as her home, though she longs to be accept by other species. It has, quite simply, never happened. Having lived here for several years, she has managed to successfully make little contact with other life, besides for her hunting patterns.
Weapons/Abilities: Young by the standards of her species, she is relatively unskilled with her innate magics. She has, on several occasions, been able to shift thin placements of clouds with extreme concentration, but it left her taxed to the point of collapse. She does not practice this often. The only weapon she uses, or has ever used, is a battle-rod of powerful redwood, inlaid with ivory designs at each end. She has it on her person at all times.
Activity: I am active everyday, but I do not always post daily. Lack of creativity, or simply a depression which makes me want to do a lot of nothing. One could say I am not inactive, though.

Ash'rael ran. She had been running for days and days...it seemed like she had never stopped running. Gasping for breath as she looked behind her shoulder, she collapsed into a tree, holding onto it's branches for dear life. Well, it seemed that her pursuers had stopped chasing. At least that was a good sign.

The young Youland continued, walking towards what looked like a clearing. Her feet were heavy and her breathing was laboured. She had been running so long...so long. Her black jacket was in tatters and her tail was inside her dress which was now covered in dirt. It was to deter any thoughts of her race, although it didn't seem to work, seeing as she was being chased. Her hand grasped her side where something had sliced it. It was bleeding slightly, bleeding her blue life-blood.

Now she was falling, falling from lack of energy and lack of will. She hadn't eaten in days, or drank. Exhaustion took over as she fell, landing at the edge of the small clearing. Sleep was beconing, she was so tired...the ground was so soft, so warm. It would just be for a moment.

As soon as Ash'Rael landed, her eyes closed as she fell into a deep, dreamless sleep.

She was standing her forest again, as though she had gone back to childhood. It was a tame forest, with no roots reaching out to grab and trip you, or poison vine to kill the trees. It was a peaceful forest, with the tall trees whispering in the wind, the cool springs carrying life to them, daintily curving so as not to spill.

But the heat... The sudden devouring heat! It angerly rippled through the forest, tossing down even the oldest of trees to feed it's ever growing hunger..

Atnae had not even realized that she had passed into the dream realm until she awakened. Sweating now from fear more than anything, she heard the trees whispering again. It was not often that the trees talked among themselves, which she felt gave her every right to eavesdrop. "-Just crashed, right there!" One tree whispered.

"Why so it did!" Exclaimed another, "I wasn't sure they existed anymore!"

"What do you mean?" Queried the first.

The second tree seemed to lean towards the first, as though telling a great secret. "Well, that's true, for sure. Perhaps it's not?" Said the first, in a more resonable tone of voice.

Atnae ceased to listen there, knowing that they would simply continue to talk in circles. Instead, she brought out her starstone, a common rock providing light at night, and began to search for the person the trees were chattering about.

It wasn't long before she stumbled upon the girl, ragged, worn, and bleeding. The blood sickend her, but she surpressed it with her concern for this odd girl that bled blue. She bandaged her as best she could with cold water and an old scarf, and covered the girl with her blanket before settling down to sleep herself. The stone had not allowed her to see well, but she was certain she had done an adequate job until the morn.

((Rip in time space continum thingy. It is now morning xd ))

Ash'rael groaned softly and shifted. She was on the ground, sleeping in the woods again. The pain in her side had slightly subsided, but it still stung. Her eyes almost refused to open and she, herself, did not want to wake. However, there was always a chance of being come up apon by another creature and of capture. It was a constant fear.

She groaned again and blinked, propping herself up by her elbows. It was morning and the golden rays streamed down into her eyes, making it even more unconfortable to awaken. She was about to sit up when she froze.

A Dryad, beside her. She felt her wound, which had been inflicted last night. It was then that she realized that there was a blanket around her and that her cut had been bandaged. Horrible thoughts slipped into her mind. She didn't seem a threat...then again, not everything was what it seemed. Take Ash'rael for example: she was harmless, but she was being hunted down like a covict!

If she could slip away without the Dryad noticing... She shuffled slowly into a sitting position and was about to stand when her foot landed on a branch. It snapped loudly, the sound reverbrating in her ears. Oh no, it was all over now.

"Nyhg?" Huffed Atnae, waking at the sound. Blearily, she saw the girl from last night. The Dryad saw proudly that she had bandaged it better than she thought, but it would have to be changed. "What are doing up so early?" She asked, "It's barely dawn!" That was an exaggeration, the sun told that while it was early, it was several hours past dawn.

She squiggled into a sitting position, streching her sore muscles. "I'm Fa'atnae My'yl, what's your name? Are you okay? Where do you come from? Where are you going? Are you hungry yet? 'Cause I am!" With that last statement, she began clearing an area for a fire.
PostPosted: Sat Nov 13, 2004 6:00 pm

Ash'rael didn't know how to respond to the sudden onslaught of questions tumbling out of her mouth. She only stood there, stunned.

"I-I-" she started, gaping. Maybe she had gotten lucky, and this one didn't have anything against her race. That, or she was blissfully ignorant of her kind in the first place!

"Ash'rael," she answered and then corrected herself, "Fo'Ash'rael." Technically, she was a magick user, but that wasn't something that she was about to reveal. Especially not to a stranger.

"Pleased to meet you," she added, meekly. She didn't know what else to say. Figures, the one chance that she gets to speak to someone that didn't want to skewer her, is the time that she gets shy. Perfect.

Her tail was rather uncomfortably stuffed inside her dress and it was certainly getting painful to sit on it. She stood, but it still felt strange.

Fa'atnae had set up a small area in which a cheery blaze was burning. Exited about having someone to talk to, she chattered all the while she was cooking. "Nice ta' meetcha Ms. Ash'rael! Anything in particular you'd like? I have eggs, sausage, Ghedda root, and I think I may even have some fish left!"

Turning as she asked, she noticed Ash'rael looking uncomfortable. "That reminds me," Atnae said, reaching into her pack for a pan. "I didn't get to wash that cut properly last night, and I'm running out of water. Are you feeling up to walking? I need to find a source."

Atnae needed much more water than most. Even though she held human form, her old tree needs had to be met. She could stand to be without water for weeks, it could get very uncomfortable on the second day.
PostPosted: Sat Nov 13, 2004 6:25 pm

With the mention of the wound, Ash suddenly felt dizzy. Her vision blurred and she had to blink several times in order to see clearly.

"I'm fine," she answered, leaning against a tree for support. Her hand moved to her side and felt the caked blood there. At least the bleeding had stopped. It was dark last night, maybe she hadn't noticed the colour... Maybe it was too much to hope for.

"I'm fine," she repeated, taking a step forward. Her stomach churned and growled noisily. Ash blushed and looked away into the woods. She hadn't eaten in days, all she could think about was running. Running from the ones who had chased her. Were they humans? She couldn't even recall...her hunger had left her weakened.

"Should we go then?" she asked, trying to look as if she felt fine. All she needed was some water...water...

((I just realized how bare this post looks! redface I'll flesh it out a bit))

"Are you sure you're okay?" Atnae asked, concerned. "You don't look so good." It was true, she looked like she was about to fall again, like the only thing that kept her from falling over was a nice, sturdy tree.

She built a small ring of stones around the fire, carefully clearing away any leaves she saw leaves. There would be no forest fire started by her! Hey! She called to the trees. Do any of you know where the nearest stream is?

"Stream? Oh! Yes!" Cried a short sapling. It looked as though most of it's leaves had been blown away.

She waited. And waited. Finally she asked, rather impatiently, Would you tell me where it is? Cursing herself for the loose phrasing of the last question, she bent to pick up her Sjango seed, ready to go through any type of jungle.

"Oh! Certainly! Turn to the sun, there is a stream not far!"

Thank you! She told it. "Why don't you stay here, Ms. Ash'rael? I'll come back with the water."
