What do they do to it, anyways?
I've heard that it's a ritual thing, and that it's painful, and if they show any signs of pain they have to start over, and blah blah blah... But does anyone know what exactly it is that they do? Or maybe some ideas on what you think they might do?
...and what the hell does it look like before it's done?
That's just something I've always wondered.

Well, many fans call it fleshy... I think it looks wirey or rubbery personally. The problem is that in the comics and movies it could easily be either, and the novels never actually says a damn thing about its consistancy or what it's like beforehand. We don't even know what their hair is like after the ritual to be quite frank, none the less before. But since it can be undone, I'm unsure of certain theories that involve complete binding of it on a chemical level... But then, if it were only done on the outside while the inside remained normal I might be able to see it. (Which would kind of go along with what was seen when a tress was severed in Bad Blood.)

Its like holy beads or something the ritual is to focus them on the hunt giving them a reminder of the codes of battle

An' ye harm none, do what ye will... Yes, When they are old enough to join clan or whatever, they have someone kinda braid it or something, and it is reallly painful to them. If they shed even a tiny tear or show signs of pain at all, they automatically un-braid it and restart. ~Blessed Be~

I've heard and read that their hair is similar to ours, only more wiry and not as flexible, but similarly just as strong. Following this line of thinking, one could surmise that they have a very straight and bodyless hair before the hair ritual. My theory on their hair binding methods are a material similar to that of calk, which is used in construction, only of a different chemical makeup and also doesn't entirely harden, but retains a rubbery and flexible structure, and then the metal bands/beads/decorations are added. Those bands could even be reserved for older males that have proven enough combat ability to even be considered for the Blooding.
Now, mind ye, this is just my theory for the most part. None of it should be taken as absolute fact, it's just hearsay and theory/opinion.

What about the predalien's dreads? I've always wondered about that, and obviously the predalien didn't go through any rituals.
