Today is truly a black day for Whovians everywhere.
"David Tennant left dead in mysterious frog incident!" "Freema Agyeman suddenly disappears on trip to Amazon!"
... Read the headlines. Or something like that.
Our situation is: Doctor Who is left at a standstill. There is no Doctor, no companion. The show has been going so well that the BBC doesn't want to just drop it, they need it to continue!
Luckily, someone down at the BBC knows your father or is your cousin or dated you in high school or something, and recalls that you are the most dedicated Doctor Who fan ever! They call you over, and ask for your help: re-cast the show.
So, if it were up to you, who would you cast as the Doctor? His companion/s? Hell, do you have a good idea for a villain? This thread where you discuss the perfect casting couch for Doctor Who. Have fun!
Also, the poll is a joke, I wouldn't cast either of them as the Doctor.

Richard E. Grant as the Doctor. Or, at least, he ought to be considered... some people think he's a bit too deadpan, but personally I think he's just about made of awesome. Well, okay, not quite. But almost.

For ages I have thought Sam Waterston would be a cool Doctor. Ever since I saw him in that long-ago short-lived TV series "Q.E.D." He was great as the title character, an inventor in the early 20th century. And he had a nemesis, played by Julian Glover! xd

Isn't Sam Waterston the guy from Law & Order? His face kind of reminds me of Patrick Troughton. Or maybe it's the hair.
I need to think about who I'd pick. I don't know enough British actors/actresses outside of Dr. Who, and it doesn't seem kosher to have an American in the role.

Sam Waterston is the only American actor I know of that I would suggest. You should see him in that, gleefully roaring around in a Bessie-like old car, or producing all kinds of weird inventions in his workshops. Though he was American he seemed to live in the UK, somewhere out in the countryside, & he had a Cockney cab driver as a manservant...he had the guy drive him all the way out there from London, & then said something like, "Hey! Why not stay & help me? It'll be fun!" & the guy laughed & said yes. (Could be the creators of QED even had the Doctor in mind when they made the series...it came out about 1982....)

Personally... I don't mind, so long as they have an impressive mop of curls and are reasonably hyperactive.

If it were up to me....I'd probably wouldn't mind seeing Hugh Laurie as the Doctor..although most (Americans) have already typecast him as another doctor. See, the problem with this is that we need an unknown to step into the role. Otherwise we wouldn't look back and say, "Hey, that's the [number] Doctor!", we'd say, "Hey, that's [actor] playing the Doctor!" Anyone make sense of that?

Personally, I would love to the cast of Curse of the Fatal Death reprising their roles, only THIS time for a canon adventure.
With Rowan Atkinson as the Eleventh Doctor and Jonathan Pryce as the Master (Think Jonathon Pryce can't do villains? Go rent "Something Wicked This Way Comes", you'll see him in a whole new light.). xd

Well, okay, not quite. But almost. Actually Richard E Grant has already played the Doctor in the online adventure Scream Of The Shalka (2003), which also featured the voice of some actor called David Tennant as a caretaker. What's he doing these days? biggrin On a more serious note, my vote for the Doctor would be either David Jason for an older Doctor, Hugh Laurie if you want a middle aged one, or James MacKenzie for a younger one. James MacKenzie plays Raven in the children's game show of the same name. More info here... http://www.jamesmackenzie.co.uk/index.html

Before I saw House, I had Hugh Laurie typecast as the lovable, well-meaning buffoon. I think that due to his ability to go from that to Gregory House, he might make an okay Doctor, though I agree that an unknown and good actor would definitely be absolutely wonderful.
