So our company just accepted some new interns.

I routinely check our e-mail server for ingoing and outgoing mail. (Don't say it's invasion of privacy. It's my job.) And I caught one that was written in a mixture of txt tlk and leetspeak....here is a fraction of it.

Dread Email
k gerald ned u 2 m@il snr prgrmr n tol prodcer fo itrfce n l0nchers sence w3 ned ta nstahl it.

After finding that, I promptly tracked it and fired the intern, also adding that his position requires someone who can relay information in a coherent manner.

At this rate, we'll be seeing microsoft ads with "lol" in them.

I believe I shall wring a PS2 controller around my neck now.

In a professional setting like that, the guy must be kicking himself for making such an error like that. Good for you for firing him.

Wouldn't a warning have been more appropriate? I would hate to think he lost his internship over a first time goof off.

True, I did lose my temper a bit, but the presence of txt tlk being used in the corporate world probably set off an internal ICBM. I believed, since he was supposed to have read the requirements, he should have known better than to use txt tlk when relaying information.

Granted, it might have been harsh, but I believe that you were fully justified in handling that situation as you did. Wow... I can't believe that people are so incredibly stupid as to believe that's appropriate!

...As a note, who was the email intended for? Was it a company email? Or just one to another intern?

The intern in my department was e-mailing our Recovery Officer, asking him to e-mail our Senior Programmer and Tool Producer for the interface and launchers for our paycheck/timescale system.

Wow, I would have fired the guy too. I mean I know it was his first mistake but honestly if a job requires that you be able to give information correctly then he should abide by that. I could barely read two words out of that little bit you handed us readers. I mean if it was something like "lol" or something as small as that it wouldn't be that big but...
