Searching Reality

It was pouring with rain; she was running, running away from her parents who were fighting once again, trying to escape the scene. She didn’t stop running until she fell flat on her face. She started crying.

“What are you doing on the floor? Why are you crying?”

She looked up to see a little boy, he was holding up an umbrella.

“My mom and dad they’re fighting again” as tears fell from her eyes.

“Hey, don’t cry. Let’s go to the park, we can share my umbrella”

“Okay”

The rain was starting to subside. As they reached the park they came upon a beautiful garden filled with flowers and butterflies.

“Wow it’s beautiful”

“You like it?”

She nodded as she said “I’m Natsumi Minami, you wanna be friends?”

“Sure, I’m...”

She woke up with the light of the sun.

“A dream? How long has it been since I saw...him?”

She was thinking deeply about him. He was on vacation when they met, after they left she, for some reason, forgot his name and everything about him except his appearance. It was thanks to him that she was able to get through that family problem.

Her thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door.

“Natsumi sweetie, time to go to school now, you don’t want to be late on your first day of school do you?”

“Okay mother”

She was living alone with her mother; her parents got a divorce when she was still a little girl. She was an only child; she didn’t have any friends except for him.

People didn’t like her very much. She was a person who doesn’t care much about the world. People always thought that she was a bad influence so they would always stay away from her. In fact Natsumi is actually a sweet girl. She was smart, and pretty no one just took time to actually know her better, she was a loner.

She went downstairs and ate her breakfast and left home a fast as she could. Thinking of what horrors may come from school, teachers, students, bullies and what not. Her only way of escaping would be staring at the sky. It would always keep her mind out of her problematic life, making her as calm as possible.

As she arrived in school she was nearly late. She entered the classroom a couple of seconds before the teacher entered and sat own at the back near the window.

“Good morning class, today we have a new student joining us. His name is Shuichi Minamino.” Said the teacher as turned to the door “Shuiichi, please come in”

She was busy minding her own business, staring at the window, at the soothing and apparent sky when she noticed a young boy entering the room. He was average in height, had long red hair, emerald-like eyes and a very enchanting smile.

She stared at him he looked so familiar. She then realized who it was. She then whispered to herself “It’s him…”

As the young boy entered the room, he noticed a familiar girl at the back.

“Shuichi, why don’t you sit beside Natsumi at the back. Natsumi please raise your hand so that Shuichi can see you.”

Natsumi quickly raised her hand while staring at him; he was coming moving closer. She didn’t know if he still remembers her since it was a long time ago. He quietly sat down at the chair beside Natsumi, not saying a word to her.

She gave out a soft sigh and thought, well I guess he doesn’t remember “Okay class, wait here until your next teacher arrives.” said the teacher as he headed for the door.

Right after the teacher left the classroom Natsumi immediately turned to look at the window. She was still thinking about him, wondering if he really doesn’t remember her. She was in deep thought, daydreaming to be exact. She didn’t realize that someone was calling out her name.

“Ms. Minami!” She finally heard the loud scream of the teacher. Class was already starting and she dint even realize what was going on.

“Can you please pay attention and answer the problem on the board !?”

Natsumi sat up and went to the board. She quickly answered the math problem in no time at all. She then went back to her seat as the teacher checked her answer.

“Correct, Ms. Minami please pay attention to class next time.”

The rest of the classes had gone by and lunchtime had arrived. Natsumi didn’t bother eating her lunch, she was too preoccupied with her thoughts once again. She knew it was him but she was unsure that he doesn’t remember her at all.

He was staring at her, her long black hair, her blue eyes, rosy cheeks and fair skin; he knew exactly who she was.

I don’t think she remembers he thought giving out a silent sigh. He was disappointed, he had been waiting it see her ever since they were separated, ever since he left the town on his vacation.

“Excuse me Natsumi.”

Natsumi was surprised she didn’t expect anyone to say a word to her. She turned to see who called her and saw that it was him.

“Y-yes Shuichi ?”

I don’t think I should ask her yet. Although… she seems a bit depressed.

“Um, aren’t you doing to eat ?”

“Well… I’m not really hungry so I guess I won’t.”

“Is it okay if we talk for a while then ?”

“Yeah…” she hesitated “But…why would you want to talk to me ?”

“Why wouldn’t I ?”

“Um…” she hesitated once again “People would usually stay away from me, it’s either they ignore me or insult me or whatever. People just judge me without even trying to get to know me…”

“I’m sorry” he said guiltily “You see, I wanted to cheer you up. You seemed really upset about something…. But I think I made it worse.”

“No-no-no-no” she quickly said as she waved both her hands in front oh his face. “You didn’t upset me at all, I’m actually happy that you were concerned at me. Thank you very much.” she said as she smiled.

Wow, how long has it been since I last smiled ? It’s thanks to him again. Once again, he made me happy.

Suddenly a grumble was heard. Shuichi chuckled as Natsumi blushed.

“Natsumi, I think you should eat now.”

“Yeah, I think you’re right”

Natsumi ate her lunch and once she was done, she tried to talk to Shuichi.

“Hey Shuichi”

“Yeah ?”

“Um… what book is that ? Oh never mind. I’m sorry, I’m just asking random questions.”

“No it’s okay you don’t have to apologize, I mean I don’t mind answering it. Do you still want to know what book this is ?”

“No, it’s okay. You’re really a nice person, you know Shuichi.”

“Thank you Natsumi, so are you.”

“Who does she think she is !?! I mean, look at her, she’s talking to him !!” said one of the students. She had been watching at the two talking comfortably. She had also been staring and admiring Shuichi ever since he arrived that day. To her, as did the other girls, he was a prince, charming, smart and what not.

“Satsuki, why don’t you go there and get him to stay with us ? It would be a shame if she would be happy and if he was to be with her.”

“Exactly what I was thinking…”

As Shuichi and Natsumi were talking, they saw a girl who was coming their way.

“Hello there Shuichi, I’m Satsuki Koizumi.”

Satsuki had long brown hair and gray eyes. She was tall, slender and poise. She, although, had an aura, she looked like a kind of person who would do anything to get what she wanted and in fact she did. She was a spoiled brat.

“Hello Satsuki, it’s nice to meet you.” he said as he gave one of his charming smiles.

“So Shuichi, would you like to stay with me and my friends for lunch ?”

“If you don’t mind Satsuki, I think I’ll stay here with Natsumi.”

“But Shuichi, would you rather stay with an outcast like her ? come on please ?” she said as she started pulling him, trying to persuade him, force him.

Natsumi was silent, just staring at them she knew that this was bound to happen. She knew that once she was happy, people would take away her happiness by any means necessary.

“Um Satsuki, Natsumi’s my friend and I would like to stay with her.”

Satsuki left the two. She was humiliated and angry. She left with a grudge.

Friend, a word that echoed in Natsumi’s head. She hadn’t had a friend in a long time, she wasn’t used to being called “ a friend ”.

Natsumi was still staring, shocked at what had happened. Someone stood up for her, someone called her a friend.

“Natsumi, are you okay ?” asked Shuichi in a worried tone.

‘Y-yeah, I’m fine.”

“Are you sure ? you seem uneasy.”

“It’s nothing, I’m just a bit surprised that’s all.”

“Surprised?”

“Yeah, well… you called me “ a friend ” and I’m just not used to it that’s all.”

“Oh I see but, we are friends aren’t we?”

“Mm.” she said as she nodded, giving out a smile.

“Hey did you hear ? There’s a new student in class 2-3. They say he’s gorgeous, he has long red hair and emerald eyes. He’s also very smart and polite , a real gentleman. Just like a prince.” said one of the girls in the other class. She was also talking to another girl. Little did they know that someone was eaves dropping.

“Hey Kuwabara, did you hear that ?”

“Yup, do you think It’s him ?”

“Hey, what are you guys talking about ?”

“It’s nothing Keiko. Come on Kuwabara.”

“Hey, I’m coming too”

Natsumi and Shuichi have been talking for a while when they heard someone.

Weeks have passed since Natsumi’s encounter with Yusuke and the others, she was more comfortable, more at ease. She had decided that she would move forward, live her life in the present and not in the past.

It was early in the morning, Natsumi arrived in school early, a bit too early. There were only a few students in school.

I can’t believe that it’s this early. She thought as she was staring out the window. it was a beautiful day, the sun was shining as bright as ever at the same time it was breezy. What a beautiful sight.

“Good morning Natsumi.”

Natsumi turned around and saw Keiko.

“Good morning to you Keiko.”

“So what are you doing in school so early ?”

“I just woke up early and decided to come here.”

“Oh I see. Oh yeah, there’s a café opening today right ?”

“Yeah.” Natsumi said as she nodded

“Why don’t we go there together after classes ? We’ll ask Yusuke, Kuwabara and Shuichi to come along, how about it ?”

“Sure that sounds fun.”

“So what are you girls talking about ?”

Natsumi and Keiko looked back to see Yusuke, Kuwabara and Shuichi.

“Good morning.” the two girls said.

“Natsumi and I were just planning on going to the café that’s opening today, after school. Do you boys want to join us ?”

“Sure why not, I have nothing else to do anyway.” replied Yusuke. “What about you Kuwabara, Shuichi ?”

“I have nothing else to do either.” said Kuwabara

“Same here, I guess I could come.” said Kurama politely

“Then that’s settled. We’ll meet in front of the school after classes okay ?” said Keiko; she seemed pretty excited and happy about this.

They all nodded in agreement.

“We better get back to class. Come on Yusuke, Kuwabara.”

“Alright, see you later.” said Natsumi as she and Shuichi waved at them.

Once again Yusuke was dragged out of the classroom, but this time Yusuke was grabbing Kuwabara. You could hear their screams and arguments along the hallway.

Natsumi started giggling. What a funny sight she thought.

“Yusuke always makes a scene, its pretty fun to watch them though.” Shuichi said unexpectedly

Natsumi started giggling again. “I agree.”

As what most of us realize, the more you have fun the faster time runs, the more you wait for something the longer time takes. For Natsumi, time wasn’t on her side, it as another long, boring school day. She was too smart to listen in class; all she did was stare at that beautiful sky, a habit that she had come accustomed to. People did say that bad habits die hard.

School was now finished, Natsumi and Shuichi started walking towards the gate.

“HEY WHAT TOOK YOU SO LONG, WE’VE BEEN WAITING FOR TEN WHOLE MINUTES NOW !” shouted Yusuke, he wasn’t the type who would wait; he was very impatient.

“Yusuke ! It’s only been ten minutes, we didn’t wait here that long you know.”
“Yeah, but Keiko I was getting so freakin bored !”

“BUT YOU DIDN’T HAVE TO HIT ME URAMESHI !” shouted Kuwabara, he wasn’t injured though. Yusuke just kept hitting his head with his empty bag.

“I’m sorry.” said Natsumi and Shuichi in Unison.

“No it’s not your fault.” said Keiko in a very sweet and gentle tone
“Shall we go ?”

They all headed to the said café.

“Good afternoon, please come in.”

The group sat down and ordered.

“Wow, it’s delicious !” exclaimed Keiko as she took the first bite of her cake

“Yeah, it really is.” said Natsumi as she took a bite out of her cake.

“There she is my lord.”

“Get her by any means necessary, I want her alive.”

“As you wish.”

Natsumi and Keiko were busy talking when Yusuke felt something, something eerie.

“Can you guys feel that ?”

Shuichi and Kuwabara nodded.

“We better get rid of it before it causes any damage.” suggested Shuichi

“But what about the girls ?” asked Kuwabara

“I think it would be safe if they would stay away from this place.” said Shuichi.

“Alright I’ll tell Keiko.” said Yusuke

As soon as Yusuke had told Keiko, she was off. Yusuke had told her that it would be a lot safer if they would pass the back door.

“Keiko… I know that I shouldn’t ask weird questions but… why are we passing the back door ? Where are we going ? And what about the others ?” asked Natsumi. She was curious to what was going on. She saw Yusuke whispering something to Keiko who then grabbed her and headed straight at the back door of the café.

“Oh…um… we’re passing through the back door because…because it’s a shorter walk from here to where we are going.” Keiko answered very nervously.

“So, where are we going ?” she asked, she was curious. She had no idea to what was going on

“To a… to the clothing store. Yeah that’s right. There’s one near here, that’s why only the two of us are going. And besides the boys want to go to the arcade.”

“Oh, okay then.” answered Natsumi but she knew that something was going on.

While Natsumi and Keiko were getting out of the café through the back door, Yusuke, Shuichi and Kuwabara went out through the front door.

Yusuke, Shuichi and Kuwabara were already outside when they saw two figures a man and a woman. It seemed that the aura that they felt was coming from them, but before they could get near them, they were gone, there was an explosion followed by a scream.

There was a red light of energy that hit them and soon enough the two were separated and unconscious.

Yusuke, Shuichi and Kuwabara knew where the scream came from, it was from Natsumi and Keiko.

The boys immediately ran to where the girls were and saw Keiko unconscious on the floor. Natsumi was nowhere to be found, she was missing...
