The Gimp = The GNU Image Manipulation Program

So who here uses the Gimp?
Who here prefers it to other programs you have to BUY to use.?
This is just a little post to talk about all things Gimpy. lol

So I use Gimp for most of my graphics, of course I'm still learning to use it, some of the stuff to use are quite nifty.
The greatest thing about it is that it is completely free, not a penny to buy it. You can create your own brushes, gradients, patterns, scripts, plug ins, splash pages, and probably more. Now what can program can top that AND cost nothing?

I got photoshop for free. whee

The thing is GIMP is made for Linux, yes it runs on windows but to experience it's fullest potential you need linux. At least that is what I head.

That isn't quite true, it is made with Linux in mind yes, BUT it can run perfectly on windows, all of its features work on windows.

You got photoshop for free...no fair! How did you get it free? Was it a present? Did you win it?

Psh when it saves you $600 its right in my book. I too have a free photo shop. Any ways gimp isn't the best program in order to compete with photo shop GFX you need to do alot more

Photoshop and anything Adobe is way to expensive. If it was $100 or $200 I might buy it but when it is 2.5k for the whole suite NO WAY!

That is a right rip, some big companies can be so greedy for money. But in the meantime I think I'll stick to The Gimp.
Go gimpy!! whee

To tell you the truth I have not even tried it. I probably should. I have heard many good things about it, I just love photoshop to much (main reason why I do not switch to Linux).

Its understandable, I mean if I had photoshop I might not have downloaded The Gimp.
I just wonder if their are any Gimpers out there in this guild?

I use Photoshop, although when I have free time I like to experiment with trails for other programs like Corel Draw. Sadly, I paid for mine. I don't recommend stealing from Adobe, they hunt people down and prosecute them with great vigor. A couple of people I've known through school have had to pay hefty fines for it. sweatdrop heart

How did they catch them? Did they put their names in?

I use the GIMP. I bought Photoshop but I can't use it until summer (grounded). THE GIMP IS AWESOME.

Most people underesimate it because it's free, but it's truly fabulous.

EDIT: Trying Photoshop, IT'S FUN!

*Greats user* Hello there...nice to meet another user of The Gimp.
Truly it is indeed an AWESOME arty program, I love to mess around on it, learning how to make new signatures/avatars etc.
