"One- an' twoo- an' three-", Cody puffed, pulling himself up then releasing himself down again, up, then down, up, then down, by three he was already kicking his hooves around to kind of give himself extra leverage on his pull-ups against the park's bar. There were three levels of the bar, most kids climbed up to them, starting with the short bar, to get up to the top one to dangle from their legs. Cody had seen big guys on TV doing this kind of work-out so logically if he did them he too would become a big guy.
"Tarnation." He puffed, pulling himself up for his fourth one. One thing was for sure- it was damn harder than it looked on TV. At least it was spring. A decent enough time of year for such activities. Just starting to warm up- perfect for his favorate outfit of a pair of long, shreadded shorts and a worn-down jacket. Of course, his hat was perfect for keeping the spring sun out of his eyes so he could focus.
He let himself down once more, puffing and whipping his tail around. His arms were starting to get sore... "One more..." He grunted and went about pulling himself up again, this time really kicking at the air and lashing the air with his tail. If possible, his face was starting to redden a bit.

Unlike most of the DCorp children who had grown sick and tired of playgrounds...Reese had never been to one, so he was more than happy to get out in the sun and play! With glee shining brightly in his large round lavender eyes, he wheeled himself around on the smooth walkways between the play sets...Edge strolling along slowly behind him, whistling an idle tune.
"Don't get too far ahead of me, Reese," the father called out in a gentle warning. The boy was heading towards a play set where there were a lot of bars to climb on...somewhere on the other side, Cody was busy doing his chin-ups.
Reese simply turned and beamed at his father and, despite the cautioned words, rolled himself right onto the wood chips. Man, did he love these awesome sand wheels! They rolled over just about everything!
The seahorse boy didn't stop until he was at the bottom of a yellow ladder, reaching out to grab the nearest rung. He pulled, trying hard to get himself up from the chair...but he just wasn't strong enough yet.
Pfft, oh well. That's what Poppa was for!
"Help!" Reese shouted, glancing back and his father with a smile, waiting. Edge laughed at the sight of the young boy trying so hard (a little too hard sometimes) to be independent.
"Hurry hurry!" The boy urged, puffing air into his cheeks in what could only be called an impatient pout.

Cody paused in his little workout, flicking an ear over towards the two joining him in the playground. For a moment he kind of held himeself there, chin resting on the bar. He slowly let himself sink back down, just dangling as he eyed over the new kid. He looked a lot like Lae did- wheelchair and all...only this one was a guy.
Cody smirked a bit, flicking his tail from side to side as he watched the little boy try to pull himself up onto a ring. It was almost pathetic- someone had to help this kid learn to do it himself.
"What'cha cryin' fer help fer?" He finally called out, releasing the bar to drop to his hooves. He looked a bit flushed but composed himself well enough as he paced his way easily over, tipping back his hat a bit to glare over the seahorse with a single chocolate eye. "Kid all ya gots is arms an' if ya go cryin' fer help every time ya can't do somethin' yerself than you'll never get nothin' done fer yerself. Specially if ya get yerself somewhere on yer own."
He came up beside the wheelchair, planting his hands firmly on his hips and puffing his chest out. "Yer holdin' 'em wrong if ya wanna pull up."

Reese's thought changed direction when a new voice called out, looking around curiously before his bright lavender eyes fell on...a cow! How cool! First he'd met a pony boy...now he'd meet a cow boy, hat and all!
"Hi!" Reese answered the original shout, waving a hand excitedly as Cody strutted over to him. The single chocolate eye was countered with a never fading smile, the seahorse being too naive to understand what a glare or a challenge was. He tried to listen to what Cody was saying, her really did...but he kept getting distracted by the shiny ring hanging out of the older boy's nose.
"That'th neat," he finally said when Cody stopped talking, pointing at the ring. "Where'd you get that?"
Edge had stopped as soon as Cody appeared on the scene. Phew, good...someone else to distract the tyke for a while. Taking a load off, Edge plopped down into one of the many benches. But still, he watched the two like a good father would.

Cody seemed a bit confused to have his little 'lesson' ignored. The kid didn't seem to have much of a clue, did he? He was just a kid... they weren't the brightest things in the world, he himself was a bit of a dunce still. He cleared his throat a bit and followed the kid's finger, crossing his eyes and perking his ears up a bit.
"Ooh that? You ain't never seen no nose ring a'fore kid?" He smirked a bit and snorted around it again, "Means I'm tough. Means I had a needle up in mah face an' survived it. They put it there tah show 'dat I'm tough. No weaklin's ain't got somethin' like it. 's What I figure anyway." He shrugged a bit. Truth be told it had been there since before he could remember... He'd not mention that on TV he'd seen the rings used to tie the cows down... it wasn't important.
"What'cha tryin' tah do anyway, kid?"

"Needleth?" Reese repeated quietly to himself, wrinkling his nose and snuffing out in only a half mimic of what Cody had just done. Reese didn't like needles. At all, and the thought of having one up his nose made his face itch.
But this kid must have not minded needles, to have one so close to his face. Made Reese wonder if Poppa would ever get a nose ring like that. Poppa was plenty tough, Reese knew. He didn't really know how he knew, but he just knew.
"Climb up," Reese said rather simply, pointing towards the top of the bars where a platform waited, leading to a nice twisty slide. "Can you help?" Reese perked, bouncing some in his chair. Lots of kids that he had met were willing to help him do just about everything. Maybe the cow boy would help him too, and then they could slide together!

"No." Cody said simply, stepping around Reese to get a better look at what the kid had to work with, "Ain't always gonna be someone 'round tah help you out kid. Ya gotta learn tah do it yerself." He repeated, reaching out to poke at the kid's hands, "Yer holdin' it wrong. Gotta hold it like ya really mean tah pull. 'ere watch."
Cody moved himself over to one of the bars, gripping it hard with his fists balled hard, fingers pointing towards himself, "This way ya got more leverage. Ya can pull harder, more natural like. Jus' keep yer wrist tight, use yer elbows an shoulders, throw yer weight up an' catch it."
Cody demonstrated shortly, throwing himself up again and jerking his body up to where his chin rested on the bar. He was puffing a bit but he did it. "Like this. Ya gotta do it yerself if ya want up."

Reese started to cheer...but he stopped, mouth agape, his round eyes blinking. His mouth came down, his cheeks puffed out with air which he then released like a balloon being deflated. He wasn't used to that. No was usually a word reserved for Poppa for Wilbur to say, not another kid when Reese was asking for help.
He went to open his mouth again, but closed it tight when Cody started talking. He watched the older boy, eyes curious...not really understanding why he couldn't help him. Oh yea, sure, he got the whole no one being around to help thing. But the bow boy was here now, he could help. Why did Reese have to do it by himself if there was someone to help?
"Lookth hard," Reese's voice was plain, making the observation. Cody was bigger than he was, and he was huffing and puffing. Reese didn't see a point in getting winded when he was supposed to be having fun.

"Nothin' good comes easy, kid." He snorted, letting himself down to his hooves again, "An' there's no use in complainin' bout what'cha don't got tah use. Ya got two arms." He came over and poked at one of them, jumping up to the first level above the slide, "Two arms an' no legs. Ya gotta use what'cha got an' not dwell on what'cha don't. If ya keep gettin' help when ya could be learnin' tah do on yer own well ye'll be up s**t creek wif'out a paddle."
He put a hand out, just out of reach- Reese would have to pull himself up enough to take the hand, "I'll take it easy on ya since yer jus' a kid an' it's yer first time with me here. Ya pull yerself up 'nuff tah get mah hand an' I'll get'cha up th' rest o' th' way. Fair?"

This boy talked a lot, using words that Reese didn't really understand. Though, from what Reese gathered, it was a lot of the same that Cody had been saying all along.
Reese was going to have to do it himself.
Pushing air into one cheek, looking rather annoyed without seeming angry, Reese inspected the ladder again. He took in a big breath, and stretched out his arms to grab the rung just within his reach. He scooted his body forward to the edge of the wheelchair, rearranging his grip to like Cody had showed him, and then Reese pulled.
And, amazingly, he moved pretty well. After all, he was in a wheelchair all day, every day, using his arms to maneuver around everywhere; of course he was going to develop some upper body strength. But while the initial tug went well, about half way up to the destination bar, Reese began to struggle. His little face twisted in concentration...straining to get up.

Cody nodded his encouragement, only inches away from this point. He didn't seem to move out of the way or towards Reese either way, "See? Not as hard as ya made it look tah be. Jus' focus on what'cha gotta do. Look at my hand, don't look no where else kid. Eye on th' bullseye." Lord Cody hoped the kid didn't take it literally and start starring at the eyepatch which...ironically had a red bullseye over it.
"Jus' stretch with one hand, lean with yer body, an' hold with yer other hand. Nothin' else to it but that."

Reese looked up at Cody...realizing there was indeed a bullseye on the bull's face. He would have laughed any other day, but right now there was more on his mind. Straining, pulling, feeling his arms ache...wanting to whimper, but something in the back of his head said doing that in front of this boy would be a bad idea.
He had to be tough. Tough like this boy. Tough like Poppa...Poppa wouldn't have whimpered.
He was so busy focusing on getting up to Cody, Reese didn't realize something was lending a hand. Or tail, as it would be. Naturally curly, Reese's tail had latched itself to one of the rungs up near his waist. As Reese strained, it also pulled...until, finally...
Reese's hand shot out suddenly, grabbing the other boy's fingers and clasping tightly.
"I did it!" he squealed.

Cody smiled in approval, giving a single nod before he leaned himself back and started to help tug the little boy up to the top of the playset. "There ya go, see? All ya gotta do is focus on little goals. One step at a time. S' how ya get over any big problems, kid. One little bit at a time."
He clopped himself back until Reese was firmly up to his level. For the moment he remained crouched a bit as not to dwarf the kid. Without legs the kid would probably feel very small next to someone that could stand, "Was it that hard?"

Sitting almost like a snake, Reese coiled himself on the platform, his breathing heavy but his face bright with a smile.
"Not...tho...hard!" he said with a laugh. Nope, not hard at all...though now his arms were killing him and Edge was probably going to have to push him home. But it was worth it, right? He'd made a new friend...a strong, tough friend who'd help him be strong. He liked that.
"Thlide now?" Reese asked, pointing at the whole where the slide started. "You come with me!"

Cody chuckled a bit and got up to his hooves. Keanu would be proud of him, he was being nice...sort of. "Well I think ya earned a go first unless ya need someone down there tah catch'cha." He scratched behind an ear, glancing down the slide. "Dunno how ya wanna do this... trust be told I never gone down no slide a'fore. My hooves kinda slippity-slide on 'em an' I'd prolly go flyin. Nothin' tah slow up myself when I get to th' end ya know?"
