First off, don't get offended. I'm fat. I'm the one asking. I'm not trying to bring anyone down, but I'd like to get perspective on this.
I'm a hefty girl. Curvy. Large. Big-boned. Chubby.
I love cosplay, and cute things, but I certainly feel out of place when I do.
What is your opinion of larger people donning skinny people's costumes and parading around?
Please try to be sensitive as weight can be a heavy issue. (Pun intended)

I think it's all about costume choice. Heavier cosplayers have just as much right to cosplay as the slim ones, it's just that they have to be more careful with the costumes they choose. Making a costume with a very short skirt, or shows off a lot of stomach is probably a bad idea. Doing so may cause you to get a lot of flack from less tollerant people. Other than that, there is no reason a heavier person can't cosplay what they want to. I'd rather see a heavy person do a good cosplay than a skinny person do a poor one any day.

I completely agree with this... I have a bit of chub too and I'm picking cosplays like Sheena, that cover up everthing and suit my body type... regardless of the want from my boyfriend to dress as Naga from Slayers... >.<

There is no reason why any group of people should not cosplay who they want. It's all a matter of dressing for your body type. Large cosplayers need to know how to cover properly, as do skinny ones.
I feel nothing but pity for skinny girls who try to play large-breasted characters.

I'm a little heavy myself but I love to dress up and cosplay. I don't shy away from wearing short skirts but otherwise I cover up. I've done Haruko from FLCL, Aya from Tenjho Tenge, and Reika from RahXephon, all of which do not show a whole lot of skin.

I don't care if fat people cosplay, just don't wear skimpy ones with bits of your body hanging out. Also, don't make your costume too small for you, where your body starts eating the clothes. This happens with skinny people too, but it happens generally more with bigger people.

i would say no to skinny type costumes, but yes to many others.
after all, what's the point, if you do not appear true to type?
but there are many non skinny characters you can be, so no fear.

Im a large cosplayer myself ( I prefer the term fatty-chan mrgreen ) and I like to cover up and dress in layers normaly so I tend to choose costumes that have longer sleeves and cover up a bit more than usual. Though i do like to show off my legs (despite how 'odd' they look) but I have to beware of my big butt lifting the skirt a bit more than I want.. heh...

I think people should think about their own appearance when they choose who to cosplay.. :3 Atleast about how much you want to cover up or show your skin.
but I don't think you should give up cosplaying just because you're a little bigger than the others 3nodding heart
