"Gays shouldn't go around saying 'I'm gay and proud' when I don't go around saying 'I'm straight and proud' On the day of silent I'm going to go around saying that I'm proud to be straight."- Girl
She asked me after what I thought on the subject. I just shook my head thinking about this guild.
I think she talks about it way too much. I know why she does though, there is a gay pride flag under the american flag, and she is so pissed that it is like that.
Now she asked me all the time about it.
My issue is... How can I say something, and what I think, without this girl getting even more pissed off, and/or thinking I'm a lesbian?
I would also like to know what you think about people being this way, or anything you might have an idea on what I should say.
btw she isn't againist it, she just doesn't believe people should go around saying they are proud to be a homosexual.
I think that if people were to go around saying "I'm straight and proud" it would be pointless, nobody is againist being straight. There are tons of people out there who would hurt homosexuals, for being who they are.
Thanks for listening.

well not all LGBT people have slogans like that... they don't have to use those slogans and neither do straight people...
straight people don't usually use slogans like that because they're not trying to provoke change (unless you're an ally and so use slogans and other propaganda)
basically are slogans aren't to state that we're gay... there to state that we're going to remain strong in our love and our life and our beliefs even if people and the government try and hinder that. And when we're granted equal freedoms and respect from the rest of the population then we won't have a need to use propaganda to support it.
Or if you want it from an ally point of view it's basically just supporting your beliefs and views and what you want changed... and it doesn't mean you're gay. and she seems like a dunce of a person anyway so who cares if she thinks you're gay? gay people are cool =)

You can speak your mind when ever you feel like it, but your best bet is when you do think about it first. Not a good idea to sturr up something bigger than yourself.

I've never really thought about it like that, actually... You know, people can say, "Be proud to be who you are, no matter what." But I kind of think that if one went around going, "YEAH I'M PROUD TO BE STRAIGHT," one might get the impression that s/he's a homophobe, I don't know, that s/he is making fun of gay people who are loud and proud like that? But if you're straight, you should still be able to be openly happy with yourself like gay pride people do. I mean, you should be proud of who you are, but I guess straight people don't flaunt it as much as gay people... Because when you're gay, you want to put it out there and let people know that you don't give a flying ******** what anyone thinks, but if you're straight, it doesn't really matter. You aren't really opressed.
So... I guess that the point of that is that if you're gay, you should have pride, but that doesn't mean that you can't be loud about how you're straight, and that you CAN be proud of being straight without being anti-gay? That's how I see it.
I don't think that gay people should stop being out and loud and proud like she said, though. They're just trying to put it out there and be like, "Check it out, I don't care if you don't like it." Um... Yeah.
