As everyone enjoyed themselves in the Masquerade, Olivia stood faithfully by her little stand explaining to each person who walked up about her shop and the things they sell there. To her pleasure many seemed interested in her little business and questioned her mercilessly.

"Oh yes. It's because of Grand General Welbehenna that I had the privilege to be here. A friend of his had bought something of mine for him for his birthday and he insisted upon me by request. I was very flattered, " She explained length fully.

Ment skittered around her looking for his friends, which he didn't have the pleasure of finding yet. This was boring him, so he wormed his way through the little crowd of people back to Olivia and tugged on her dress. "'Livia, I'm bored." He muttered.

Olivia smiled down at him to keep herself from hissing at his intrusion, "Well, why don't you light the new Dark Carnival scent for the guests here so they get a better whiff of it for me?" Anything to keep the child occupied, really.

Ment muttered a heavy 'Ok' and went about lighting the Scent with a small smile, things were to run a mock tonight.

Abigale, who was more or less all the more nervous while left to her own devices, skirted away from the ticket-taker who seemed irritated hers was covered in punch. When she caught a whiff of some rather nice smells, she started nearer the source to see what it was.

At first, she thought it was a new dish brought out to replace the ruined food that had originally set out. When she saw it was a candle, the woman looked obviously disappointed. It would have been nice to see something to munch on to take her mind off the silliness from the party.

"'Ello Miss Lady~" Ment smiled, slinking up next to Abigale quietly. He twirled a small lock of his white hair and gave her a grin, "What'cha doin'?"

The child rocked back and forth in place, his frilly skirt bouncing happily as he did so, most would figure he's a little girl, but if asked Ment would proclaim proudly his...man-hood. Whatever little there was left in his feminine looking body...

Jumping slightly with surprise, Abigale clutched her heart when she saw that the source of her surprise was a sweet looking little 'girl'.

"Nothing sweetie, just looking at the candle." She murmured softly. Though most adults made her nervous, Abigale had a soft spot for children, and smiled beneath her bandages at Ment. "Aren't you the cutest thing? What's your name?"

Sommer sighed to herself as she moved through the crowd, once again amongst unfamiliar faces. She wondered were May and Crystal had gone, and she was looking out for either of the two. She liked both women and hoped to extend their acquaintance past the ball.

Stopping by the refreshments she got herself a glass of punch, smiling softly. It always came back to this place it seemed. Maybe she would find her companions again here?

So, the mummy girl was gone. Instead of feeling a neglected emotion wash over her, relief actually hit May. Because, as she had learned, mummies were creepy. No matter where they were. And frankly, May preferred to only have to deal with them on Halloween, not at balls too.

She shivered at the thought.

Seriously. Mummies were just…weird.

But it seemed as the girl in the weird garbs had found her way over to the Solace Scents table. A frown marred May’s expression as she decided she would dutifully avoid the table at all costs. The haunting image of the stolen oil playing in her minds eye, the journalist decided to scoop out someone she knew rather then dwell on her past deeds.

Thankfully, she spotted Sommer by the punch table and May found herself waltzing over to the girl.

“Allo!” She cheered happily when at the girl’s side. “Miss me?”

“May!” Sommer waved at the woman cheerfully as she approached. She picked up another glass of punch which she handed over to her, smiling. “Actually I did. I never noticed before now, but this place seems a bit stuffy when you’re by yourself.”

Sommer took another sip of her own drink. “What about you? Broken any hearts yet?”

Yes, Sommer was definitely loosening up, and comfortable enough around May to make a remarks like those. This night would be grand if it kept going at this pace.

"A not-so-innocent interest?" said Sati, pocketing the garnet and adjusting her golden monocle with her spare hand. "I suppose they might. But then they'd have to deal with a not-so-innocent interest from the man in the bull mask, there," Sati said, pointing out a burly man about twenty feet away, "Or their choice of those three, in the knight-helmets." She pointed out her other bodyguards, her bracelets jingling as she gestured expansively. "I'm Sati Kuchhal," she said in explanation, a tiny smile on her face. "Of the S.-S. Trading Company; we deal in exotic import. And when an event as grand as this comes along, well, my coffers start feeling a bit too heavy."

Hmm, didn't look like her wares'd be any easy sale here. To tell the truth, Sati liked this woman; most of the richest here would be far too eager to take any bauble offered without a second thought. Sati herself was far more practical, and ironically not very fond of riches and opulence. But the Tamil-born trader was a shrewd merchant, and knew well that the appearance of living in luxury spoke well for the quality of her goods. Sati sighed. Of course the people she liked most were those least likely to take her lavish gifts. "Ah, wait a moment," she said, dipping a hand gracefully into her silk pouch. Rummaging around for a second, she pulled out a small, blown glass bird, shimmering with the colors of twilight. She smiled, calm and pleased. "Perhaps this would suit you better?" she said, offering the tiny figurine.

The scent of caramel and sugar drifted through the air. Sati grimaced slightly; she already had a headache, and the sweet scent only added to her nausea. Still, it smelled pleasant, despite Sati's discomfort. She'd have to investigate later.

May took the drink and rose it in the air as if giving a silent toast before taking a sip. “Nah, no hearts been broken yet.” May giggled softly “I did however see a mummy walking around.” She frowned at the thought but shook it off.

“How about yourself?” She spoke with a grin. “Any dances with males yet?”
PostPosted: Sat Apr 14, 2007 10:40 am

Sommer noticed the frown but didn’t touch on the subject, though she did look around to see if she could spot said mummy. It should stick out seeing how most people were dressed in their finest evening wear. But no such luck. Oh well maybe later.

She looked back at May laughing. “No, I do think our little dance with Crystal earlier might have scared them away for good. Though I did have the pleasure earlier in the dance, and let me tell you. They don’t measure up at all.”

Hmm maybe the two should show the men in this room how it was done? Maybe not, the last attempt hadn’t gone over well at all.

May chuckled warmly. “I’d offer another dance, but another fight might break out.” She shook her head as her eyes sparkled with mirth. “I think we should hold off on dancing together until Crystal picks us up on the rain check.” She almost had to snort at that.

Besides, she was actually hoping to kidnap a dance or two from a male. Just to relive the high school feel.

Placing her cup on the table, May looked around the room carefully to see if anyone was staring at her, before reaching down her shirt. Which later produced a notebook and pen in her hand. She flipped the notebook to a page that had messy notes scribbled on it, and jotted something down quickly before turning to Sommer with warm smile. “What’s your last name dear?” She inquired pen posed to write down the response.

"My name's Ment, Ma'am." He murmured, smiling. "Did you know that Aromas are supposed to make people feel better depending on the smell?" He proclaimed proudly, looking up at Dark Carnival.

"This one is supposed to remind you of a circus, whatever that is." He laughed, taking a whiff of it carefully, "It smells a little like my friend, Polly."

Taking a closer look at the scent he skittered next to Abigale, the aroma of peppermint escaping off him in thick waves.

Yes, no more fighting, or they would be kicked out for sure. As it was she was amazed there had been no consequences.

She looked at May, notebook ready in hand. Now why hadn’t she thought of that? Simple, you hadn’t expected to actually have fun here. When did I get so obsessed with work that I stopped enjoying the simple things?

“It’s Liebe, L-i-e-b-e... “ Most people found it hard to spell the old German name right. “Any specific reason you want to know?” She asked curiously.
PostPosted: Sat Apr 14, 2007 11:12 am

May wrote the name down carefully before closing the notebook and sticking the pen back in the spiral before returning the notebook where it had come from. Her hand, now free, moved back to her glass as she took a long swig from it.

May mentally played with words in her head, as she took the drink before responding. “Just taking notes on the party.” She responded after awhile. “Don’t want to forget any important facts, right?”

As the words escaped her lips, the scent of a carnival wafted over to her nose, and she glanced over at the oil stand. “Smells good.” She murmured.

Sommer nodded, looking around to find the source of the pleasant smell and blinked. “I didn’t even see that until before. I bought a scented oil at Solace Scent just a few days ago.”

She smiled fondly as she thought back on that. The oil lamp had been lit every day since then.

“If you haven’t been there you should go check it out.” She set her glass down then, giving May an apologetic look. “If you excuse me for a minute. I think I had a bit too much of that punch.”
