Foot after foot, the little cub bounded playfully through the grass. She had no idea why she was so cheery, she just was. Unfortunately, Chaka couldn't come with her this time. She'd grown overly fond of the jackal-lion, and treated her as a sister, which Noyana viewed as a good thing. She'd been getting bigger, taller, stronger. Noyana loved the feeling. She felt more free too, not that she was ever held down. She wished Chane could be with her today, but he'd been gone before she woke up.
"Mmf!" She muttered as she lept on a rock, a tall one to her. Noyana positioned herself on top, then puffed out her chest and surveyed the area, proud of her ability to climb. She perked up when she saw a dirt-colored lion in the distance, and determined she could pounce him.
She slid off the rock and stuck her lime green tail in the air. She believed that it actually camoflauged her better, because she thought it was a stalk of grass. From an outsider's standpoint, they could most likely see the tuft of black fur at its tip and know it was a dead give-away, but Noyana was certain it helped her. She approached whomever it was belly to the ground, and tail in the air

It was a typical day, but for some reason, tension seemed to vibrate the air. The tan male crept through the tall grass, red eyes wide and fixed on a small herd of grazing antelope. Part of the tension could maybe be chalked up to the thrill of the hunt, but for some reason, Ushu felt it was more than that. Not something he could put his paw on though.
The lean body was held low to the ground, muscle rippling with each stealthy step forward and closer to the heard. Down-wind and moving carefully, it was unlikely that they'd sense him before it was too late, and that was Ushu's whole purpose to his stalking. The way he felt, he wanted a quick, easy kill to fill his belly with, then most likely he'd spend the rest of the day wandering restlessly till finally overcome with fatigue. Maybe then he could sleep the way he was used to.
Brown tipped tail flicked behind it, stopping just shy of brushing the grass.

Noyana matched his style, only this time while stalking the male. She wasn't exactly gaining ground, but she wasn't loosing it either. When he stopped, she did too. She wasn't thinking about it, however, but letting her body take its natural response to stalking. Therefore, the thought process moving through her head was to catch his tail- that was her goal.
Why was he keeping his tail so low, anyway? She'd ask when she caught up with him, but until then, it was footfall after footfall, as quiet as she could.

Ushu stayed crouched low, letting the grass hide him from his prey. Muscles rippled under soft fur, the gawky adolescence of his body over shadowed by the intensity of his focus on the hunt. One soft ear flicked back at the sound of rustling behind him, but the lion never took his red eyes off the herd and the target he'd picked out
There were plenty of things out and moving in the grass, a little rustling wasn't enough to distract him. As the un-noticed cub moved step by step closer, Ushu stalked towards his prey, moving quickly a few paces before stopping stalk still for long moments. It was the normal stop-start-stop of haunting prey, and his technique, though not perfect, showed a lot of promise.

Noyana followed intently in the same fashion as the male ahead of her. He was moving quite oddly, and this confused her. In addition to that, Noyana was confused at the smell from upwind. It smelled a lot like Mkimya, the klipspringer, had when they had played. Why would he sneak up on them?
She still didn't know that animals like antelope and klipspringer were the kinds of food that her parents brought her. She hadn't ever made the connection. She stopped following him to watch what he was up to, being quite uncertain. She split from his path and sat in an area with lower grass. She blended in quite nicely with her yellow pelt, and watched as the male got closer and closer to the antelope.

Eyeing his prey with all his attention, the adolescent stalked closer. Closer.... closer.... Every muscle in his lanky body trembled with anticipation, and adrenaline flooded his veins to make his heart pound.
Then....
Ushu exploded forward in a powerful leap, hitting the ground running full speed. The antelope scattered, too slowly, and within moments, he was in their midst. A roar of excitement jumped from the lion's throat as he charged his fleeing target, gathering up at the last minute for another leap.
The tan body soared through the air with all the grace of a born predator, claws sprouting from normally velvet paws. Fangs and talons flashed, and the antelope gave a desperate squeal before it fell under Ushu's weight. In moments, he had run down his prey and bitten on its neck for a fast kill, and now there was nothing left of the once-living animal but a corpse for a feast.
The prince rose to his feet with a satisfied sigh, licking the blood from his jaws as he glanced around idly, half hoping some pretty girl might have seen his hunting prowess. It was a rather deflated Ushu that caught sight of Noyana, though. Cubs were okay... but they just didn't enjoy his performance as much as older females did. He offered the cub a smile, waving her over with a paw.
"Hey there! Are you hungry, would you like to share this antelope with me? Its more than I can eat on my own."

Noyana was shocked as she watched the scene play out in front of her, but she didn't let it hit her too hard. She had always known that her food came from something that wasn't alive, she just didn't know what... And now she knew.
"Sure!" she said as she approached, still a little uncertain. She covered it up, though, with her curiosity. She had been hungry, so it was a good thing she ran into him.
"That was really cool," she added, knowing she would soon be throwing herself at other animals like that. It couldn't be that easy. There was no room to be too soft- you'd go hungry if you did. She accepted the hunt as a fact of life, and decided that if she had met the beast previously, she wouldn't make a meal out of it.

Ushukuru chuckled as he licked traces of blood from his muzzle, settling back to sit beside his kill as the cub approached. He tried to make his expression friendly, since she seemed to nervous, and waved at the food again.
"Feel free to eat as much as you like. You need the food more than I do, since you're still a growing cub." He grinned a bit more naturally now when she complimented his hunting, a deep chuckle rolling out. It hinted at the depth that would come with full maturity, and his red eyes sparkled with warmth. "I'm glad you liked it. I've practiced long and hard, you know. It takes a lot of time to get the art of hunting down right... Heh, and even as expirienced as I am, I tend to miss more than I make a sucessful kill."
His ears lay back into his growing mane in embarrassment, but he offered her a dazzling smile to hide it. Ah, he was certainly growing to be the charmer...

Noyana bounded over after his invitation. No feeling squemish, she told herself sternly in her head. Only girly girls are squemish over something as typical as food. She hadn't seen whoever this was around the Pridelands... ever. She tried to remember if she'd seen him ever, but couldn't recognize where.
"Thank you," she said, just as mommy had said to say when someone offered food. She couldn't quite understand why it mattered whether you say it or not; she thought it should be implied. She quickly began to eat the meat- it was just like the meat her mother caught too.
"I'm Noyana," She said after swallowing a bite. "Who're you? I haven't ever seen you." She said, head slightly tilted.

Ushu smiled gently as she dug in happily, lightly licking blood from his paws while he waited his turn.
"You're quite welcome, my dear. Its also nice to meet you. My name is Ushukuru, and my parents are Rehani and Denahi. I'm not sure why you havn't seen me before... maybe its just because I like to be out and about a lot, and I don't spend much time at the den." He tilted his head lightly to the side as he smiled down at her, the wind ruffling his beginings of a mane.
"Well, I know why I'm so far out, but what brings you so far from Priderock? Won't your parents worry about you if they don't know where you are, Noyana?" His red eyes were kind and a little playful, though he tried to look stern. It really didn't sit well on his youthful face.

A sheepish grin crossed Noyana's little muzzle as Ushu made a good point. She swallowed what she had in her mouth at the time and tried to get as much blood off as she could with one lick of the lips. "Well... I've been this far out before," she justified, hoping it would work. "Mom lets us go pretty much wherever we want in the Pridelands, as long as it's in the Pridelands."
The names seemed familiar... Rehani and Denahi... she sat and thought about it for a moment. "I know your parents names, but not their faces," she told him, still trying to remember where she had heard their names. She took another bite to hope she could place it, but nothing came to her.

Ushu chuckled as he tossed his head lightly, clearing his mane from his eyes.
"Well... Rehani is Sarabi and Mufasa's daughter. She's a lovely cream lioness with green eyes. My father, Denahi, is dark brown. He has a marking on his back like I do, though I look more like my mother." A smile tickled his maw as he watched her eat, appreciating her appetite. Nice to see her eating well... and nice too, the feeling he got from providing for someone other than himself. It didn't happen often, though he always brought back what he didn't eat to feed those at the den.
"Who are your parents, Noyana? You've got a very interesting color to your pelt, I don't know if I know any lions that look like you."

Noyana looked over him, trying to place the face and name. "I know them!" Noyana exclaimed as soon as she swallowed her last mouthful. His pelt tipped her off to them. "Well, I don't really know them," she admitted. "But I've seen them around." She was happy to have made the connection.
"My mom's Na'ilah and my dad's Mika'il. Mom's bright green, like my tail," she said, giving it a lash so he could catch the color, "And my dad's got these spirally markings that I've got," She finished, holding up a paw to display the ones on her front leg. "I'm surprised you haven't seen me, or my other half, around. I've got a twin brother, you know," She said proudly. She loved having a twin.

Ushu chuckled as he obediently leaned forward to study the markings.
"I'm not a twin, though I have a lot of siblings. Being a twin must be nice... I don't really get alone too well with my brothers or sisters, so I prefer to be out here by myself." His head gently tilted as his ears relaxed against his mane, a small sigh slipping free. It was really too bad... he'd have liked to be closer to his family, but it just wasn't an easy thing.
Red eyes slanted to study what was left of the kill. "Did you get enough?" He said softly, his tongue flicking out to lick over his mouth. "I'll eat what you don't, but make sure you ate all you wanted to."

Noyana looked up at the male. "If you ever see him around, his name's Chane. Chane'mkia for long," She chuckled, remembering how many times she had been called Chane. "We look almost identical," She said with a nod, proud of how alike they looked.
"My siblings are, for the most part, quite rambunctious, and I'm every bit as lively," Noyana said, flicking her tail playfully. "I can tackle any one of my brothers." That was quite the accomplishment, in her mind.
"Yes, I'm done with it, thank you so much!" She said, stomach full. She licked some of the blood off of herself as best she could.
