Techie L ((NPC officially created now.)) sighed impatiently as she led a child into a carpeted playroom. She glanced at the clock. Thirty minutes until the appointment; plenty of time to get settled in and distracted by the many playthings littered about the room.

Faigel wandered about the room, poking and prodding at random things out of sheer boredom. She stacked a set of blocks into a little tower, then sized up her creation carefully with ball in hand. She whipped her arm back and chucked it as hard as she could, not only knocking them blocks over, but scattering them all over the floor. The ball struck the wall hard enough to leave a little blue scuffmark - one of many - and bounced back to her.

It was five minutes til time when the door clicked open and an odd looking man stepped through. He seemed almost confused as he peered around the room before stepping up to Technician L and introducing himself. "Sean Roshred. Pleased to meet you." he supplied while shaking her hand enthusiastically. "Now tell me, am I lost or expected?"

L checked her clipboard and replied, "Expected, sir. You should have already received the preliminary information. Here's the rest of the file." She handed him an enormous expandable manilla folder and looked around for the child.

He was about to ask about his mentoree, when a blue rubber ball smashed into Sean's nose with considerable force. He turned towards the thrower and ducked just in time to avoid a similarly hurled wooden letter block.

Faigel was on her feet and producing an angry hissing sound, her wings raised and folded tight. She leaned fowards and her neck was down in what any bird owner would recognize as an aggressive stance. Seeing that the stranger hadn't made any aggressive advances toward her, she grew bolder and charged him, screaming at the top of her lungs.

Sean's eyes widened, unsure whether to laugh or run in the short span of time it took the girl to cross the room. Then she was slamming into him, and pummeling him with every limb she could spare. He tried to push her away, but she sunk her teeth into his arm and he stumbled when a wing dealt a harsh blow to the backs of his knees. Recovering, he flicked her on the nose hard with his thumb and forfinger. The moment she let go, he put his shoulder to her stomache and lifted her up into the air, pinning her legs down with one arm and securing one wing with the other to keep it from whacking him over the head while her small fists pounded uselessly on his back. Her other wing flailed helplessly out of range, occasionally managing to brush against his arm.

"Iiieyah. Fiesty thing aren't you?"

"I'm not a thing! I'm not! Imnotimnotimnot!" She screeched futiley.

Knowing that the child was not strong enough to yet cause any actual harm, Techie L stepped back and out of Mr. Roshred's way to watch how he dealt with Faigel's attack. Once, she was reasonably subdued, she stepped in helpfully.

"Faigel, this is Mr. Sean Roshred. If you're nice to him and don't hit people any more, maybe he'll let you down." she suggested, waggling her finger in the child's face.

Faigel stopped struggling for a moment to glare at her and made another hoarse screeching sound. Her hair seemed to stand on end even more than usual, giving her the look of a white parrot in winter. She jerked her captured wing irritably and began to drone in the most sarcastic voice possible. "Hi Mr. Mentor Person. My name is Faigel. I am seven years old. Nice to meet you." with an angry huff she added "I'm sorry I hit you. Now will you let me go?"

Sean was defiantly closer to laughing this time as he set her down gently on her feet. He covered his mouth with his hand to stifle a giggle when she promptly crossed her arms over her chest and turned away from him sulkily. "Well Faigel, my name is Sean and I'm somewhere around twenty-five. Nice to meet you too." He leaned down and extended his hand for her to shake, but she only glared and raised a wing threateningly.

Now that the usual attack sequence had been handled, L settled back on the bench with clipboard in hand to observe the meeting. Faigel wasn't the type to lose interest in any one thing very quickly, both because she was older and because she was paranoid. L decided to give them one hour to try to work things out. She checked the clock. 15 minutes had passed.

Sean, who was not a very large person in the first place, sat cross-legged on the floor facing the child in order to be more at her level and thus less threatening. He pushed his glasses back into place and stared at her inquisitively.

Faigel, who was still defensively raising a wing, stared warily back. A minute passed, then another. After a full five minutes of the unspoken staring contest Faigel finally conceded by refolding her wing and mimicking Sean's seated position. "Fine already!" she hissed. "Quit staring at me."

In response to this, Sean laughed again. "All right then, what do you want to do instead?"

L was starting to get concerned during the staring contest, afraid that another bout of violence might break out. From a seated position, Mr. Roshred might have a more difficult time defending herself, and while Faigel might possess the strength of a normal child in her arms, she possessed the proportionately normal strength of a bird in her wings, which meant she could hit pretty dang hard! One prospective mentor had been escorted to the Medical Building with a broken wrist after a visit with Whitehawk. She breathed a sigh of releif when conversation finally started.

"iono." she shrugged, still looking everywhere but at him. She snatched up the ball that she had thrown at him earlier and rolled it across the stretch of floor between them. Sean bounced it back to her and Faigel caught the ball easily. She bounced it back to him and the game continued for a few rounds.

In a sudden bout of temper, she chucked it as hard as she could, but the man managed to stop it with his outstretched arm and catch it on the next upbounce. He caught on to the new rules of the game quickly and threw it hard at Faigel, who almost instinctively stretched out a wing and hit it back at him. This time, Sean was prepared and his arm shot out and plucked the ball out of midair. "Not bad." he remarked.

Feeling considerably less sulky, Faigel stood up and pointed to the other side of the playroom. "You go over there." She waited until he was in position, then threw the ball upwards and gave it a mighty whack with her wing. It came hurtling towards Sean with some force, who in turn pulled Faigel's file out of nowhere and hit the ball back.

Techie L opened her mouth, couldn't decide what to say, and closed it again several times. That was NOT what her carefully constructed file was intended for. Hours and hours of painstaking research that required digging through hundreds of hits in the enormous Factionn S database (nevermind that L hadn't actually been the one to do it) was being used as a tennis racquet. She was absolutely livid! Standing up quickly and flinging her clipboard at Mr. Roshred's head -which to her dismay, he managed to avoid- she snatched the folder away from him. "Mr. Roshred." she growled with as much polite compure as she could muster although she itched to slam the barrel of her pistol right into the middle of his forhead, "Please attempt to set a good example for Faigel by treating your pa-"

L was interupted by an object colliding into her shoulder with a solid thwack. The rubber ball bounced a few more times before rolling to a stop against a wall. Faigel stood on the other side of the room, feet squared and wings half open, an agressive stance, obviously irritated that the Techie had stopped her new game. She clutched a block in one hand, probably her next projectile. L didn't give her any time to throw it. In swift strides, the techie crossed the room and skillfully wrenched the object away from her, twisting the child's arm behind her back in the process. Faigel screeched angrily, striking out with her wings as she tried to free her arm.

Sevan tried to restrain her, but she thrashed so wildly that he ended up wrapping his arms around the pair of them to no great effect, unsure whether it would be better to force them apart or to squash them further together to restrict the space and still Faigel's movements. In the meantime, she sunk her teeth into his arm again and managed to knock off his glasses as well as giving Techie L a bloodly lip.

It was L who got things under control. She wrestled both of them to the ground, using Sevan's greater weight to keep Faigel immobile against the floor. After allowing everyone a moment to calm down and catch their breath, she restrained Faigel and frogmarched them both out the door. L started down the corridor with Faigel in tow, but turned back and said very hurridly. "Thank you for your time Mr. Roshred, Faction S will contact you at a later date."

A much as she hated to admit, this wild and unruly visitor was probably perfect for Faigel, even if L couldn't stand him.
