Those books left a bad taste.
*gasp*
omg how can you say that
those were awesome books
They are well written and deeply imaginative, and draw the reader in to a magical world with powerful images that stay with you long after you put the last book down.
But, the underlying messages were disappointing. The author is an atheist and the whole, god-is-senile, you can depend only on your own self, existentialist poo made me roll my eyes
rolleyes I wanted to give the main character a kick in the pants. She was pure ego. And a kick for Pullman too, while I'm at it. Maybe he didn't realize how his books would be interpreted, but to my jaundiced eye they are a celebration of self-absorption.
