The previous day had been pleasant enough. Damu'Jicho had spent the afternoon running and tumbling with his twin to the point of pure exhaustion. It was no surprise that the young lion had gone straight to sleep, skipping out on a meal brought to him and his parents by his father. Of course, this lead to a very rumbly belly, and this lead to Damu's afternoon outing.
Stalking silently through the tall blades of golden grass, Damu's mocha eyes stared out over their billowing, shiny canopy. His father had been no where in sight, and the night's prey had been completely decimated by his siblings. Damu's only option was to seek out his own prey...though it would be a very unsatisfying meal, as the dark tan male had yet to be taught how to properly hunt. At this point, however, even the smallest mouse would've satisfied his growling belly.
Wincing against the pains in his empty stomach, Damu paused in his silent march, his head raising as his ears swiveled forward. A rustle. Dark eyes widening, he tried desperately to seek out the source of it...There! A bit of wriggling grass. A slow, feral grin spreading over his muzzle, Damu dropped his already large body close to the ground, hind end wiggling excitedly. On deathly quiet paws, he stalked towards his prey. What was it to be? A tasty rabbit? A wounded bird? Or some other sort of lovely surprise?

The black cub was bored which was most normal. She had been laying in the sun letting it heat her black pelt. Her mind had been elsewhere dreaming about something more interesting then what she was doing at the moment so she didn't realise how hot she was actually getting untill she found herself panting.
She moaned a little and stood up moving a bit till she found some damp grass that had possible not dried from the mornings dew. Either way it was cool and she could always wash later if need be. Though as it was slightly shaded she was happy believing that the dew hadn't dried yet.
Happily collapsing she rolled around in the grass letting the water cover her small body, it cooled her a little though it didn't cool her enough. She groaned a little and decided to crawl through the grass to the water as it seemed that would be the only way to cool her down and she was too hot to stand up completely, so she just crawled slowly through the grass completely unaware of anyone else being about.

A low growl formed in the back of Damu's throat as he stalked forward. He'd watched his father hunt many times, but had never tried out the process for himself. He'd always been told that he was unnaturally silent, however, so this boosted his confidence just a fraction. He ignored the fact that even if he did make noise, it was so hot at the day's peak that any prey would be too paralyzed with exhaustion to even move.
Following the moving grass with his dark eyes, the young lion drew closer and closer. With each step he drew his body closer to the ground, silently thanking his mother for his tan fur. Though slightly darker than the surrounding grass, it blended in much better than his father's startling red coat.
Swishing his tail, Damu closed in. Stopping, he wiggled his lower half as he prepared to pounce, quite proud of his huntsmen skills. He couldn't see what his prey was through the grass, but that didn't matter.
He leaped.
He landed with his paws on either side of his catch.
Yet a strange thing happened as he'd begun his descent to end this poor creature's life. He'd noticed it's odd pelt color...and that it looked oddly like a cub. His own shock caused him to gasp and his eyes to widen. At the last second, he'd shifted his legs to fall on either side, as opposed to right on the cub's back. The only thing was, that move had cost him his balance, and as soon as he landed, he began to fall face-first towards squashing the poor thing.

Umbia was startled to say the least to have a lion pounce her let alone it be a male, she was only a cub! As he managed to avoid squashing her she leaped up and out the way as he toppled forward. Her red eyes stared at his brown body and she tilted her head a little.
"What are you trying to do? Kill me?" She was still in shock and it wasn't normal for her to be shouting at others but she was so confused, surely males weren't suppose to have an interest in jumping on females at this age, her father said that happened at a later stage in life.
She took in a few breaths and closed her eyes to help her calm down, "Sorry, didn't mean to shout." She looked at the ground a little sheepishly still very confused over it all.

Damu groaned as his nose tried to bury itself a few inches below the top layer of earth. His brown eyes squeezed shut in pain, and his rear end, still suspended in the air, collapsed down to join his front. The young male lay there a moment in silent agony, wincing and making small grunting sounds. Perfect. Just...perfect.
He cracked an eye open as a voice drifted to his ears. His voice was muffled, as his face was still pressed against the ground. "Wazzunt tryinf to keel yoo," he said. Shifting his paws beneath him, he sat up, shaking his head to dislodge the dirt from his nostrils. "You were the one crawling around like a rabbit," he groaned.
The male lion proceeded to check his body over for obvious wounds. As he was glancing and feeling over his entire body, his eyes fell on the black and red cub. She was awfully young...and there was no one else around. Trying to hide any hint of concern in his voice, he posed a question, "What're you doing out here all alone anyway?"

She watched him check that he was ok, finding it odd that he was doing so, surely he would just know if he wasn't feeling right?
"I was hot and trying to get to the water. I normally wander on my own and your not that much older then me anyway." She stated the end of her comment because he did look reasonably young though obviously older then her but not that much older.
"Why are you hunting alone? Surely you are too young to do that on your own but if you want rabbits there is a burrow near the borders. I chase the rabbits when I get bored." She was speaking softly now and alot calmer then before.

Damu had always found the need to check himself over every time he took a tumble. Weirdly enough, the young male firmly believed that he didn't feel quite like other lions, and had often times found small wounds along his body that he had no recollection of obtaining. It was one of the many things that confused Damu about himself, but he'd slowly learned to live with them.
He raised an eyebrow at the small cub. "I'm older than you think," he grumbled. He could feel the growing pains stretching his skin from the inside out. Recently, the young male had been skyrocketing in size much earlier than normal. It seemed he was to take after his massive brother Taabu rather than his own father. He didn't question that the girl's parents let her wander alone. The Kusini lands had always been relatively safe - or at least to Damu they were.
As for himself...Damu didn't really know why he'd tried to hunt all by himself. He'd never tried it before, and it was usually tradition for his parents to teach him. But...he'd been seeing less and less of both his father and mother. He connected the two together. After his mother had vanished, Uumi had become less and less responsive...The way that Damu got when he didn't see his twin. "Well...I guess I was bored. And a little hungry, I suppose." His hackles shrugged.
It was surprising that the young male wasn't snapping the smaller cub's head off. He was normally so...pissy towards strangers. Perhaps it was her smallness that cooled his nerves somewhat. "It's not safe to let yourself get that hot. You could get heat sickness," he said calmly. "Besides, the watering hole is quite a ways away from here."

Umbia was a little shocked by his tone of voice, she was expecting it to be harsher and angry at least.
"Your probably right but with a mostly black body like mine its hard to keep cool sometimes." She was about to snap that she knew where the watering hole was but she decided it better not to. Instead she would tell him about the burrows.
"If your hungry why don't you hunt the rabbits by their burrows? They have a huge one near the pride boundaries. You should go and look, loads of rabbits and there are too many to get down the holes at once. I practice there." She asumed he would know what she meant by practice so didn't bother to explain it. She loved trying to hunt and though she had never succeded she would one day and become the worlds best hunter.

Damu was normally harsher and angry, but recently he'd just lapsed into the normal sullen pre-teen mood. The main reason for his grouchiness was the tugging of his muscles beneath his skin. He was tired of growing - it hurt too much, and it left him exhausted. Perhaps that was why his tolerance had grown...That, or either he hadn't been around anyone who inflamed his temper. Namely his brother.
Damu shrugged at the smaller cub, giving the simplest suggestion he could think of. "Then why not sleep all day in a den, and only come out at night?" He'd often found this thought appealing himself, but that was mostly because everyone around his was asleep.
He tilted his head somewhat at her description. Near the edge of the borders? Damu had never...gone that far. He generally stayed close to his family's den and the watering hole. Once he'd made it halfway to the forests, but then had been interrupted by a odd leopardess...which instantly set his mood off and made him turn around. Not that he'd ever admit his relief to not having to venture into the forest. He was a little scaredy-cat deep down. But the massive amounts of rabbits did seem appealing. And it he caught one, he could share it with his twin, Haba! Only problem was..."Where are the boundaries...?" he mumbled, heat surging to his face.

Staying in all day and going out at night. "That could be fun though there wouldn't be anyone around to play with or talk to and though I don't mind being on my own, always being on my own would be incredibly boring!" She smiled though, she did appreciate the suggestion and maybe she would do alternate nights, one night she would be up and one sleep and so on.
"I thought the boundaries were by the wood or forest or whatever you want to call it, anyway thats where the burrow is." She smiled at him, wondering if he wanted her to show him because she really did love taking lions there. It didn't really hit her that showing all these lions her hunting ground would mean that alot of rabbits would be killed and possibly the whole burrow may disappear.

Damu curled his tail over his paws, shrugging. "There may be more lions out at night than you think," he said. And it was true. He always ran into the odd lion or two whilst sneaking out of his den at night. Somebody was always by the watering hole, or out just enjoying the moonlight.
"Oh...the forest..." he mumbled, looking in the direction of the looming, omniscient forest. He glared at it. Why was he so terrified of them? He knew all the stories were more like frightening bedtime stories to tell the youngest of cubs so they wouldn't wander off at night and get lost. But that didn't change the fact that something about those woods petrified Damu out of his mind.
Shuffling his paws, he asked without looking at Umbia, "Would you...mind showing me?" At least if someone was with him, no matter their size, while he was near the forests, he'd feel a little better.

"Really? I shall have to go on a night time wander then!" She smiled a little and let out a small laugh thinking about how she could brag to her sisters about the adventure.
"Yep, the forest and sure I would love to show you! I go there often to practice my hunting skills. Lots of fun!" She smiled and jumped up, "This way!" She started bounding in a random direction before turning to make sure he was following. She hadn't picked up on how uneasy he was about the forest.

Damu's brow wrinkled, his hesitation very apparent. While his back legs rose to push him forward, and one of his front paws move in unison...the other just wouldn't seem to move. It was the looming idea of the forest. He knew it was silly, but that place scared him. A disturbing sense of foreboding seemed to hover over its green canopy.
Snarling silently at himself, he flicked his tail and leaped after Umbia, his paws quickly drifting into a quick trot. "Wait up!" he called out, weaving between the golden blades of grass. She was awfully fast.
((sorry for the lateness - rough week. <3))

She laughed as she ran, turning back to look at him, "Your slooooow!" She laughed again as she ran more. They were nearing the forest so she slowed a little as she didn't want to end up in the forest, it wasn't that she didn't like the place but it did give her a chill, one day she would go in there and look around.
"Rabbits are over here." She smiled looking back at him, "You ok? Did I wear you out then?" She laughed and sat down a little for a rest, she can't hunt if she is tired now! Not that she could hunt but she could at least pretend that she could hunt.
((sorry I lost all inspiration for her...))

Damu rolled his mocha eyes at the mention of his pace. Of course he was slow! There was no point in wearing one's body out before they even got to the prey. Twitching his tail, he soon caught up to the tiny female. A passing glance was all he gave the forest. One day...maybe. But that was a long time from now.
Damu's tone turned sarcastic at Umbia's question, though it was one of his more tolerant tones of voice. Cubs seemed to bring that out of him. He rather...liked them in a way. They were...small. "To the bone," he droned, dramatically flopping on his belly near the black and red girl.
The young male shut his eyes, yet after a few moments, he cracked one open. "Go on and catch a rabbit. I'm just going to take a little nap." He hid his tiny bit of grin, yawning exaggeratedly.
