The Ascent

Background:

Long ago, there was a prophecy made by the ancient Seers. It was said that a group of outcasts would be the only hope for all of the realms, especially that of the Laetic people.

The prophecy says that a war will come and that only the chosen outcasts would be able to determine the outcome of it. This group consists of a Hunter, a Thief, a Prophet, a Scholar, a Black Mage, and a White Mage.

These six individuals will discover the story of the prophecy and hopefully bring an end to the threat of the realms. There will be periods of distrust within the group, as personalities clash, but the bond of the prophecy will keep them together. The outcome of this bond, however, whether it be for good, or evil, will all be determined by the decisions these six unlikely companions make.

Rules:

1. No godmoding.
2. No immortality.
3. No bumping.
4. Romance is encouraged, but just to the hugging and kissing level. Keep it Disney-movie-esque. (You know what I mean.)
5. Ask before killing someone else.
6. No pointless fighting, please. It's redundant and useless.
7. No really vulgar language! No dropping of F-bombs, or calling each other female dogs.
8. This is a literate guild, so please, be literate!
9. Characters must be at the very least 15 years old.
10. Use the thread in the OOC Forum for OOC, please.
11. Please don't post one-liners! Two or three good sentences are nice, but well-developed paragraphs are ideal!
12. When you post, click "Preview" before you submit it. That way, you can see if anyone's posted while you were writing and possibly adjust what you have.
13. (Lucky number YAY) Most importantly-- and most cliche-- Have fun!

Please use this website for spells and other Elvish words and phrases. There's a search engine at the bottom to help translate specific words, but it doesn't translate every word. There's even a guide for verbs and such.

Roll: Thief
Gender: Female
Age: 16
Race: Human/Laetic

Weapons: A small daggar she stole from a traveling merchant when she was 12.
Powers: Sometimes she can get into places others even smaller than her can't, and she gets there totally unnoticed.
Appearance:
User Image
Personality: Happy-go-lucky to the extreme. She's always cheerful and gets onother people's nerves a lot. Still, her smile is infectous and when she laughs, you want to laugh too. She's told quite often to "act her age."
Whatever that means!

Quote:
User Name: Mercey~has~no~style
Character Name: Lindelea
Role: Hunter
Gender: Female
Age: 19
Race:Human/elf
Bio:Her father was a human, her mother an elf. She grew up with both until the age of ten when her father was killed in a hunting accident. Lindelea had been taught everything about how to hunt by her father and by the age of 13 could outshoot, out hunt, and out track any boy in the village over 16. Since then, she lived with her mother, then at age 16 her mother fell ill (so she was sent away to “heal” or so says the villagers) and she’s been taking care of herself since then in the village as an herbalist and main hunter. (Not an orphan!)
Weapons:Bow and arrows, knife (for skinning), sword, sling shot.
Powers:Tracking, hunting, being able to hear VERY well, being able to understand animals.
Appearance:
User Image
Personality:You’ll just have to find out.

slifar

User Name: Slifar
Character Name: Vince Shintara
Role: Scholar
Gender: Male
Age: 18
Race: Human/Demon
Bio: Vince was raised by his mother in a middle-class house in the human capital, near the market. Often bored, he was easy to find, as he would spend most of his time at any nearby library reading upon various subjects he didn't already know about. He spent most of his time looking for his fathers death records, however, as he was supposedly "killed." Eventually Vince suspected that this information wasn't correct, and so devoted his time to reading other subjects.
Weapons: Vince carries a throwing dagger and a close-combat dagger hidden somewhere on his person at all times. He is also able to use most polearms, except for a few, such as a Halberd.
Powers: If Vince can get some of his blood on an enemy's body, preferably the forehead or neck, he can attempt to mentally attack the opponent. Depending on how strong their will is, and where Vince's blood is, this can have various effects, but usually Vince just knocks them out. This skill is very draining on Vince, however, so he can only do it a few times in a short period before he has to rest.
Appearance:
User Image
Personality: Vince is almost always tired, and is often bored with pretty much anything. However, he will pursue anything that catches his interest until said object becomes boring as well. However, he is fiercely devoted to any friend he makes, and would fight to the death to protect them.

Quote:
User Name: JeTwHiTe
Character Name: Aleric
Role: Black mage
Gender: Male
Age: 17
Race: Human/ Wizard
Bio: Aleric's father was always away from his life and his mom was very supportive. He found out around age 9 what his father was doing and couldn't help but be amazed. Soon going into his studying and reading all the books he could in following his fathers hobby/ career. It didn't take long until you master most of what he was able to do. But finding the darking magic a little more thrilling, he followed up on that.
Weapons: A double edged sword and several daggers.
Powers: Healing on touch of another, him it automatically heals unless energy is depleting.
Appearance: Long black hair that flows from his back, usually tied in a loose pony tail. A red insignia etched in the skin on his forehead that is covered by black strands of hair. A little lower are his blood red eyes that sparkle in the light, hypnotizing anyone that dares look into them. Standing at a height of 5'9 and wrapped in a black cloak with black shoes followed by slightly puffed out pants and a grey shirt to follow. He carries his sword on his left hip, his daggers hidden in his belt and a book in his hands.
Personality: (Not going to give it because it makes it harder to rp with)

Quote:
User Name: Demon_of_Truth
Character Name: Narren Asmen
Role: White Mage
Gender: Male
Age: 19
Race: Human
Bio: With a father who works in the local butchery and a mother who wasn't alive to look after Narren and his elder sister anymore, it came as absolutely no surprise to anyone that the family wasn't exactly well off in this world. For a brief period of time, his sister was forced to work as a prostitute to pay the rent on their small hovel, and Narren as a thief. Thankfully, Narren discovered his magical ability not long afterwards, and thus was able to earn something as a healer for those who lived in the slums. However - because his ability is known only within the slums, he has received no formal training. He knows the basics of healing - but that's it.
Weapons: Two flat daggers, both strapped on the inside of his gloves
Powers: Just the typical White Mage abilities - although they aren't all well trained yet...
Appearance: Narren (but without the big cross thing)
Personality: To sum up Narren's personality as 'practical', 'blunt' and 'a bit of a scrooge' rather detracts from his real self as a whole. Sure, he doesn't place any faith in miracles and the gods (though he does acknowledge their existence), but that doesn't mean he considers those that do as blind fools. And perhaps he doesn't exactly temper his words for anyone, but he does know how to be tactful when the situation calls for it. And to call him a scrooge is just plain silly. He doesn't hoard riches at all - in fact, he is quite generous with his money. The only vaguely true reason that he could be described as a scrooge would be his tendency to save his magical power for only the most dire situation. You've broken your arm and can't work for your livelihood any more? Sure, he'd fix that. You've scraped your knee? His words would be something along the lines of "Good. You look like you need some toughening up."
All in all, perhaps Narren doesn't fit the idealistic model of a White Mage - but he can still be a good acquaintance if you take the time to really know him.

Quote:
User Name: Roka_Shotar
Character Name: Faera Jhio
Role: Prophet
Gender: Female
Age: 34
Race: Human
Bio: Faera was raised in a busy city filled with many people of different trades. As a young girl, she could see different people in the streets from her high bedroom window. As she gazed at each one, she heard the Speaker call to her and tell her of the person. She heard their past, present, future, and dreams. But most prominent of all, she heard of their power to change lives. Ever since she started listening to the Speaker, she alienated herself from those that seemed doomed or cruel. As she grew older, however, she drifted further away from everyone else. She knew about them already - why did she need to be near them? At the age of twenty five, she left the city in hopes of finding the Speaker, but she heard it tell her that it would find her first. For almost a decade, she traveled around and observed as much as she could.
Weapons: As the Speaker tends to warn her of major impending doom, Faera carried few weapons with her to burden her down on her travels. In case of emergency, Faera used a blunt-headed mace or her walking stick.
Powers: Faera's main ability is to listen to her Speaker. If she relaxes her mind, the Speaker whispers truths and fortunes. If she enters a trance, the Speaker goes into greater detail and can answer questions for her. In said trance, she often inquires about what she should do or what might happen, and the Speaker replies, but often in an uncomfortable fashion. Aside from her listening, Faera studied a bit of white and black magic, but is hardly a master in any form or way. Mostly she used her mystical knowledge to help those the Speaker requested her to help, such as purifying a well in a small village, or helping mend a broken arm for a young farm boy. She had yet to use her magic in combat, and the most she could do was create a bit of flame, water, lightning, shield or heal a mediocre wound over time. The Speaker helped guide her on how to get the best result for a small discharge of power.
Appearance: Faera was a relatively short woman, and common to look at. She stood at (about) five feet and six inches, or around 1.8 yards. She had shoulder-length brown hair that was slightly wavy, but reasonably controlled. Her eyes were brown with small flecks of forest green and her nose was long and strait. Her entire body was petite - she had little muscle and some fat on her frame. Clothing-wise, Faera often wore a simple traveling tunic, brown cloak, brown hat, tan robe, or some water-resistant boots. She hardly dressed for any occasion, and she seemed to be just another traveler.
Personality: Faera was a faithful, quiet person. Since she often learned of people from the Speaker, Faera was never social but often biased. She reacted to events quite well, seemed to constantly withhold information, and was insightful when requested. People were not use to her, but when towns and villages saw that when she came to help with her different view of the world and 'instinctive' action, they looked past her quirks and welcomed her.

(Yay we're beginning!)

Alicia slipped through the people in the marketplace, a purse in her hand. Hopefully, by the time the elf person noticed it missing, she would be long gone! She sidled behind a stall and nicked an apple. Why not eat while you're on the run? This was her philosophy. One that had gotten her into trouble many atimes, but she could live with that. Looking behind her, she saw that the elf person was out of sight. She bit into her apple and continued on her way.

((That seems oddly familiar.... Wonder why rolleyes ))

Vince looked up from a nearby bench and yawned. The marketplace was so boring, full of common shoppers, hagglers, and cutpurses. Everything conformed to everything else, making for a very dull commotion. Boring. He looked around, taking in everything with his quick eyes. Fish shop over there. Knife shop. Cutpurse. A Baker's shop. another cutpurse. Vince flopped back onto the bench, laying across it and taking the entire thing up on his own. No one ever used these things anyways, at least not most sensible people. Vince closed his eyes and yawned as he tried to drift off to sleep.

((Why, I do not know. Where could you have heard it before? 8^{P))

Whistling a merry tune between bites, Alicia went over to the benches. They were set up back to back and sight in front of a big wall. No one ever went behind the benches, so it was the ideal place to sit and hide with her apple. There was already someone stretched out on her favorite bench! The one that had a view of the market.

Frowning, Alicia marched up to him, took a bite of her apple, then poked him hard in the chest. "You're hogging up my favorite bench!" she accused. "I want you to move over, please."
PostPosted: Mon Apr 09, 2007 7:55 pm

Vince cracked open his right eye to look at this new person. He didn't see anything new or intersting, but still, he wasn't a jerk, and it didn't cost him anything, so he yawned and sat up, clearing a space on the bench for the girl. Almost immediatly afterward, Vince's head fell backwards and he begain to snore softly. He wasn't actually asleep, it was just a trick he'd learned to help himself focus by putting his body to sleep. It felt weird, as his pulse sped up and there was a loud buzzing in his ear, but it helped him to hear and detect movement. The only problom was he often fell into a daydream, and actually fell compleatly asleep if he wasn't careful.

((The scary part is that's what I do at school. The problem is that sometimes while I'm daydreaming, I'll see a thing flying right at me, and because it's close enough to a real dream, but my body isn't paralyzed like normal, I wind up shooting about three feet from my seat....... Kinda funny afterwards though whee ))

"Thank you," Alicia said in response. She sat down on her knees, elbows resting on the back of the bench, so she could look out at the marketplace. She really loved it here. Sure, she made a living cutting purses and picking pockets, but this place had a kind of enchantment to it. Like something magical was just waiting to happen. Well, more magical than the usual magi-tricks.

She looked down at the boy who was snoring slightly, frowning. She huffed and pulled out form her little belt bag another apple and tossed it into his lap. "Apple? They're delicious!"

(( eek MR. 8^{P RETURNS!! 4laugh ))

Ross stepped out of the potions store after he had just bought a different arrangement of magical supplements and such things. He was proud of his purchase, because they would go to good use and they didn't cost as much here as they did in his hometown.

He went about the market looking for a place to eat, when he arrived to this new town last night he went right to the Inn and fell asleep. It was a not a mid day yet, but he was hungry. And so statred his search for food.

"There has to be something around here to eat, it's a market for crying out loud. Resturants shouldn't be this hard to find. Or at least a bar and grill."

((?? What is that? ---> 8^{P <--- ??))

Ryu came from the neighboring city to wonder though the Capitol's market, since many more things flowed through here that his city didn't get. He didn't have anything on his list, he just wanted to see if there was anything that caught his interst that he could use.

"I hope I find something, I don't want to have travled here for nothing. At least a presant or two for the guru back home. Maybe there will be a cool tattoo shop I come across, that'd be cool."
PostPosted: Tue Apr 10, 2007 2:48 pm

Maerye made her way through the market, touching the corner of a stall gently as she guided herself through. She needed to buy some healing salves for the temple; yet, even with not being able to run into things, she would have no way to find the stall needed. She kept her eyes on the ground, eventually stopping, and reaching out, feeling at a loss.

She'd have to ask someone for directions. And if there was one thing Maerye hated, it was asking for help.

"Excuse me," she said softly, hoping someone was near. "Do you know where the nearest Healer would be selling?

Normally the Temple wouldn't have sent her out like this, but the healing ward had been very busy, and everyone with healing skills had not been at disposal for an errand like this.

(( Whoever wants can respond to her. I left it vague on purpose. ))

Vince opened his eyes slightly and eyed the fruit in his lap. "Uhhh..... Thanks......." Vince slowly sat up, his mouth opening in a large yawn before taking a bite out of the apple. He looked back into the crowd once again. People were milling about everywhere, making the area look very crowded. Vince sighed, and let his head fall back on the bench again as he tried to stare at the clouds in the sky.

((He's thinking about other things, so I didn't think it would be right for him to hear someone in the middle of the crowd while he wasn't even paying attention.... Too close to god-modding......))
