He was going to do it this time. He really was. Just look at how far he had gotten already, much further than he ever had before, and almost there. And he hadn’t even thought about going back once.

Crud. That had wrecked it for him.

Greg glanced about the hall that he was in. Seriously what was he doing? He shouldn’t be going off to talk to Kenth. It was obvious that the other didn’t want to talk to him. He didn’t even want to talk to George it seemed, and he hadn’t even done anything. How would the now doctor react if Greg confronted him?

Greg stopped walking and sighed, biting at the corner of his lip, something that he had done to stop his nervous habit of biting at his nails. (Melinda hadn’t liked that) He wondered if Kenth would even bother talking with him, or if he would just slam the door in his face. He deserved it after all, especially with how it had lead to the problems with their mother. He tasted blood, realized that he had managed to once more nick his lip, and came to his decision.

He couldn’t do it now.

Greg knew that he was being cowardly and he knew that should go and at least apologies to Kenth but…. He just couldn’t.

He also didn’t think that he should go and talk to any looking like he thought that he did. He wasn’t supposed to look like anything weighted on his mind, or like anything was a problem for him. He was supposed to be Greg, the carefree, (slightly inappropriate) and always joking teacher.

He sighed once more, licked his lip, just to make sure that the bleeding was stopped, and then smiled. He supposed that it was good enough but…

These classroom were empty, weren’t they? No one would miss him if he just sat in one and though for a bit, or if he just made sure that he was alright and that he wasn’t slipping up at all. He had a crappy little humor book with him, he supposed that he could read that if he felt that he was really getting troubled….. Nah… He was okay. Getting better already, but it was never bad to be prepared. Plus he would be in trouble if he meet one of the teachers, cause he was sure that he still looked a little concerned.

He ducked into one of the rooms, intent on reading for probably only like 5 minutes or so but found someone in the room already.

“Oh, um I‘m sorry.” He said “I didn’t realize that there was anyone in here.” He finished as he looked at the person, who he could tell now was one of the students. “I hope that I didn’t interrupt anything.”

RuiZhi had tired himself out. There was too much going on in his head, and the last thing he wanted to do was go back to his dorm; in fact, he hadn't gone back but once to get a change of clothes in the past two days. Unable to come to terms with his own conflicted mind, he had thrown himself into his studies, taking to an empty classroom to read the texts that Dante had graciously let him borrow. His right hand deftly wrote notes while his left flipped through the pages, his dark eyes absorbing every word that the elven man had written.

He was almost startled when someone came in, glancing over his shoulder wearily. RuiZhi wasn't sure what he'd do if it was them, but he didn't have to worry about it; the man was far too tall to be either of the two he was avoiding, with a shock of red hair and kind albeit bothered eyes. It would appear that he was one of the professors, but...what was he doing here?

"Oh, ah, no," he said, his mouth a little dry, "I'm just...taking notes." He trailed off, turning to face the man properly. Asking if he was okay seemed rude, so he decided a simple greeting would be less awkward. "I'm RuiZhi Tai...I hope it's okay that I'm in here." He couldn't help but feel a little sheepish; it wouldn't do to be in trouble for trying to study in private in a room that was meant to be public.

“It’s nice to meet you, RuiZhi.” Greg said with a smile. “I’m Greg Larine.” RuiZhi… Greg didn’t think that he had ever met him before, although the reception parties always had so many people in them that he could never quite remember every single person that he met there.

Hmm… RuiZhi… Wasn’t that name mentioned in the China Report? He was pretty sure that it had something to do with the doctor, but asking right out would probably look a little strange, especially if he were wrong. Well when had that ever stopped him before?

Right out side.

…. Touché inner voice. Touché. Besides if RuiZhi did know anything about Kenth the doctor had probably told him not to tell Greg anything, so just trying to talk to him would be better anyway. Tehn again talking would probably require him saying something…

“As for being in here…Well I can’t think of any reason that you shouldn’t be allowed to. It is for students after all.” He shrugged though. “But I’m not really in charge of the science department although I’m not going to say anything.” He glanced at the book that RuiZhi was studying, but it was too far and at too odd an angle for him to actually get anything out of it.

"Greg Larine," the boy repeated, his mind still muddled as he watched the man think. The name was familiar, but he couldn't pinpoint it...was it his first or last name that was setting off alarms in his head? "I appreciate it. I just needed a quiet place to be." He smiled a little lopsidedly at the professor, looking for all the world as if he hadn't slept for the past few days.

Mindful of what Dante had told him, RuiZhi closed the book he was reading, rubbing his hand adoringly over the cover. "Taking notes," he explained, standing and brushing off his robe. His hair was still braided but it was coming undone, making him look slightly discheveled. "I have a lot of work to do, to be a...a..."

It hit him, nearly making him fall back into the chair. "Larine? Are you...are you related to Kenth Larine?" His brown eyes were suddenly large, his mouth in a small 'o' shape. The boy was very much alert now. Was this a mistake, did he hear the name wrong? But no, Larine didn't seem like a common name... RuiZhi balled his hands into fists under his sleeves, trying to keep from shaking with excitement. To run into a relative of the man who had inspired him to be here...!

Greg looked at the cover of the book as RuiZhi closed it, just out of curiosity. It looked like it might have had the crest that Dante put on all his books, but Greg wasn’t going to grab it out of the students hands. That would be rude. … and the book was too far away.

As RuiZhi spoke Greg nodded and smiled. Of course he understood. The newer students were always busy. Getting used to the school, their new rooms, different races, older students taking their lunch money, oh wait, not that last one. That was regular school… probably not here.

Suddenly RuiZhi looked a little unsteady for a moment. Greg started for him, just to make sure that he was okay, but only took about a step before the child asked if he were related to Kenth.

Well so much for Gregs idea about Kenth threatening everyone into silence. He did have to admit his theory was a bit…. Well words like stupid and completely idiotic came to mind, but still… He certainly had never thought that someone would come right out and ask him, so he was quiet for a moment.

Finally he blinked, then nodded.

“So you where in the China Report.” He said quietly. “Yes, I’m related to Kenth. I’m his brother. I’m assuming that you met him when he was in China?” He had been half tempted to take a Darth Vader pose and say ‘Yes I am his … FATHER!’ just to see what the kid would do. Buttttt…… Dang it! He should have done that! Oh well too late for that now...

It's a shame the Professor didn't strike a pose, for it would have put the boy into such fits of laughter that he would have cried, and cried until he laughed. Although RuiZhi was sorely in need a smile, he wouldn't admit it; this was far more interesting than he could have hoped for, and laughter just didn't seem a part of the equation.

"N-no, I'm not part of any report," RuiZhi backpeddled, having the grace to look embarrassed at his blatant question to the Professor. "I never met the Doctor, only saw him a few times. My sister worked with him, though." Oh sister, what will you do? he wondered inwardly, seeing her expression in his mind, I've found the Doctor's family! "He's the reason I'm here," he added hastily, ducking his head with a slight blush, "he inspired me. A-are you a doctor, too?" He turned his curious brown eyes onto the Professor, wondering how the icy-doctor could have such a warm looking counterpart.

“Hm? Really? Ah well.” He said with a shrug as RuiZhi said that he hadn’t met with Kenth. That really was too bad. He was always looking for news on the mans well being. He supposed that he should, it coming with the territory of being an older brother and all, but that was something completely unrelated that he really didn’t need to get into. But when RuiZhi said that he had had a sister who had worked with Kenth, well that got Gregs attention right out.

“Kenth worked with someone? With a gi-” He managed to keep from saying the last part of ’girl someone’, but still looked surprised. It wasn’t that Kenth was sexists, he thought that everyone was equally stupid, save for Greg himself, it was just that… well Greg supposed that he hadn’t expected it. Kenth, life or death situation, everything depending on him… lets someone help him. That was really more important than the fact that the person was a girl… anyway RuiZhi was still talking and he really should be paying more attention than he was. Which was to say just about none.

“Me a doctor?” Greg smiled and laughed a little, shaking his head. “No, I’m no where near smart enough to be a doctor. I got the looks and charm of the family, but Kenth certainly got the brains. Although I can certainly understand why he inspired you. He really is quite a great person."

"If my sister is to be believed, he's a saint," RuiZhi said, stating it as a simple fact. "She claims to have been there through the whole mess with him, although she doesn't talk about all of it." He suddenly missed his sister, with her strange insight and laughable antics. "I would have liked to have met him, but...well, it's a big world out there, so who knows where he is."

The boy chuckled quietly, rubbing the back of his neck. He has no idea what to say about the good looks and charm - even if it did have some truth, RuiZhi wasn't about to agree, being that the man was a Professor - so he turned the conversation back in Greg's favor. "Well...what do you teach?" It was blatant, even for RuiZhi's taste, but his mind was hung up on Kenth and his sister, trying to make heads or tails from the sudden revelation that had come his way.

‘I do.’ Greg thought glancing back at the door. ‘He’s probably in his office right now.’ But he simply nodded in agreement, though what he was agreeing to wasn’t completely clear. It could have been to Kenth was a saint or that it was a big world.

“I would have liked to asked her about him. I haven’t talked to Kenth in a while, so I would like to at least have someone tell me how he’s doing…. Well he’s around here somewhere. I’m sure that you’ll see him eventually.” He said with a chuckle. After all it was true. Even Kenth had to come out sometimes and then… well then someone would talk to him…. And hopefully it would be Greg this time.

“Me?” Greg asked as he heard RuiZhi ask him what he taught. “Ah, if you looked me up I’d be the ‘offensive secretary’. I basically just teach people how to kick butt.” He said with a little smile. “I assume that you’re here to become a doctor?” He said, automatically making small talk while he wondered if he should go and get Kenth for the both of them to talk to…

RuiZhi quirked an eyebrow. Around here? Did he mean that literally, or generally? The boy smiled and shrugged, pushing his braid over his shoulder and down his back. "I wanted to call her, but...none of the phones seem to get to the mainland. She works in the docks the boat left from." He remembered how she'd argued and bartered with the dock master, finally cowing him into giving her work. She'd been insistant on staying near, quite unhappy that no females were allowed on the island.

"Uh, yes, that's why I'm here," he agreed absently, watching the man. He seemed distracted, especially after talking about Kenth. "Do you teach doctors how to...kick butt?" He asked half in jest, half to see if the man was paying attention.

“Well not doctors, no.” Greg said with a shake of his head, smile still there. “You’re all too busy learning how to help people to be off learning how to fight.” He thought about what RuiZhi had said about not being able to call the mainlad. The teachers, along with some select phones, could call off the school, but that probably wasn’t something that he should tell him, or really offer him… After all RuiZhi could always send his sister a letter, or an email or something like that…

….

So then there really wasn’t that big of a reason why he shouldn’t let him call her then was there? It wasn’t that he wanted to ask her how Kenth was doing, it was just that he was making sure that this new student was okay… Yeah sure…. He was really going to have to face this. This combined with what had happened with Dante (who he was also avoiding when he could) was not really helping him act cheery and normal.

“There are some phones that allow you to call off the island. Not all of them, obviously, but a few. I suppose that if you really needed to you could try to call your sister sometime.”

RuiZhi was about to counter the Professor's claim of not needing to learn how to fight when he made an offhanded comment about the phones. Not just any comment, but how they could reach the mainland. How he could use it, if need be. The boy looked very hard at the blue-eyed man, trying to gauge him, and not being able to. Either there was something bothering the man or he was extremely withdrawn; judging by his mannerisms and speech, RuiZhi was going to guess the former.

"It's not...it's not life or death," he murmured sheepishly, looking a little embarrassed. "I could use an open ear with some people, and...w-well, she'd know who I meant and she'd clear me up." It was frustrating how his English faltered when he was flustered, but it wasn't unusual, either. "Selfish reasons, I guess." The whole situation really had him bothered, but what could he do? That's why he wanted to talk to her, but if that wasn't an option...well, there was always e-mail. His sister wasn't the fastest typer but she was prompt.

More than anything, he felt embarrassed that he was having this conversation with his idol's brother. He wasn't sure he could feel more awkward, although every time he thought that, something else came up.

Greg stared back at the boy as the student watched him, very intently. Was something wrong with him? Hmm. Maybe something was, but he wasn’t going to come right out and ask him. So he simply answered RuiZhis question.

“Well I suppose that you could call. The phones in teachers’ offices can always get off island and if you have a cell phone, then they can too… And if you want to talk to someone then there are people that you can talk to on the island. People like Prinwaltz and Dante are probably not the best to talk to, but Lorioth’s pretty nice. So is Javelin… when she’s not being crazy.” He had to tack on that last part because he still remember when Javelin had asked another teacher to run around the halls naked. “And I suppose that if you wanted to you could talk to me…. So the phone… I suppose that it wouldn’t be that bad to let you use it…”

RuiZhi blinked, then started to laugh. It was like being in a draw, each person waiting for the other to do something. But when he mentioned talking to Lorioth and Javelin...that was too funny! He took of his glasses, squeezing out a barely audible, "I'm sorry," before laughing again. The boy wiped his eyes and shook his head, grinning. He was embarrassed - yet again - for laughing when the Professor was simply trying to help, but talking to Lorioth or Javelin about Weiyuan and Rylenn? The doctor would faint from blushing and Javelin would probably want to watch. He didn't think that such a great idea.

RuiZhi also didn't want to tarnish his brother's reptuation, seeing as Greg had connections to Kenth. The boy didn't know what type of man Kenth was outside of other's opinions of him, and he didn't know if he'd take kindly to such...problems. "I-it's just, I met Doctor Lorioth Manneth and Big...er, Professor Javelin Lovinghal at the introduction ceremony. I don't..." he snorted another giggle, "I d-don't think they'd want to hear what I need to talk about. Not to be rude, but it's not something I can openly talk about with the teachers."

Oh, good one, RuiZhi, he scolded himself, even though he was still trying to fight off the giggles at the image of Lorioth turning scarlet. He probably just alerted a Professor that something was going on that shouldn't, and RuiZhi wasn't willing to tell anyone. "Thank you for the information about the phones," he said honestly, his fit of laughter subsiding into an apologetic smile. "I feel...better." He didn't expect Professor Larine to understand, but he had helped him quite a bit.
