So have y'all heard about the new RENT tour? Basically they're rewriting the original to make it more look the movie, more dialoge and such.

This ANGERS ME because I have no idea why they would do that. The movie kind of flopped as it was, and the musical is about a million times better.

What do you think? Have you heard about this?

I haven't heard about that. I don't really like the idea, though.

What?!
That's so not cool. D:
Why change perfection?
Jonathan Larson must be turning in his grave...

Meehhh, thats rather silly. The movie wasn't all that different from the book, so whats the point in even modifying it?

Although I do wish they'd add that AWSOME tango scene into the play, maybe. Thats the one thing I adored, seeing everyone dance in their dresses. Although it'll probably be too hard to have Joanne and Mark tango AND sing. :_;

EDIT:
Ok; I've cooled down. I'm sure make they'll most out of it. 3nodding
And if revising his play to keep his memory alive, I'm sure Jonathon Larson wouldn't have too much of a problem.

how can you possibly know what it's going to be like if you've never seen the thing? i say wait and see what it's like, and then complain. I mean, I agree with you, why change something so good, but it's no good complaining about it. (I agree. Jonathan Larson is most certainly turning in his grave.)

I don't believe this.

I don't know. You all bring up good points.
My first reaction was it was a terrible idea.
Then someone said that it was to keep his memory alive and I started to turn.
And then someone else said that we should wait until we know more and that sounds like a good idea.
I don't know. I still say it's bad. (though that Tango idea is GREAT!)

I guess if it's to keep his memory alive...but won't the family want the original, the script he wrote, to do that? That same script has been going strong for ten years now so...why change a good thing? Sure, the movie was awesome but I don't think the original needs to be adapted to it...it just seems kind of wrong to me...

eek

I'm going to be honest for a moment. Most people probably wouldn't be able to consider me a RENThead, because I was one of the later fans who didn't get into it until I saw the movie. And I thought and still think the movie kicks serious a**; it IS amazing. I mean, most of the OBC, and Ro and Tracie? ********. I don't think the movie was a flop; I love it.

HOWEVER.

I have been to a theatre version, the tour, in February. And although I love the movie, I one-hundred percent agree that there is nothing like a live theatre version. And as amazing as the movie was, theatre and movie are TWO DIFFERENT THINGS. And like has been mentioned, the movie script was changed in places! Don't we want the original scrpit, how Jonathan Larson intended it to be?!

Seriously, this is NOT a good idea.

No, I havent heard about that tragedy. If they change it, I believe that the amount of people paying to watch the Musical would diminish because they can just watch it at home with their movie. So there's really no point to change the original. Like the saying goes: "Don't fix what's not broke"

The main thing I dislike is that they're changing a lot of the stuff like the voicemails and stuff to dialouge, like the movie. I love the voicemails and stuff. I liked that the whole thing was sung through.

The main thing is they're catering to the movie fans, even though basically everyone I've talked to who's seen both agrees the stage version is a zillion times better.
