Remember Steeeeveeeo's quiz? Remember this question? Steeveeo 1. What is the Summer of Love? DUDES! Eureka Seven really pays homage to some odd events in culture, proven by where names come from and such. Let's focus on this one question for a moment. Today, during my annoying bouts of research, I found an odd coralation between E7 and...*gasp!* some really crazy shizznips.
Damn site won't let me copy/paste, so I'm gonna have to type it all myself. Here's part of the article on this page, focused on the Manson Family. WARNING! Some of this article may be disturbing to some people. I won't post anything I deem offensive but hey, some things bother certain folks more than others. Here's the part that caught my attention:The Author of The Site It was the "Summer of Love", when thousands of young people flocked to the banner of drugs and "flower power", heeding Timothy Leary's advice to "tune in, turn on, and drop out". The streets and crash-pads over-flowed with teenage runaways and drifters, seeking insight on the world and on themselves. Behind the scenes, a minor army of manipulators- gurus, outlaw bikers, pushers, pimps and Satanists- stood ready to squeeze a grim profit from the Age of Aquarius. In San Francisco, Manson displayed a surprising charisma, attracting young drop-outs of both sexes, drawn from all strata of society. Some, like Mary Brunner, were collage graduates. Others, like Susan Atkins and Robert Beausoleil, were involved with Satanic cults. Most were hopelessly confused about their lives, adopting Manson as a combination mentor, father-figure, lover, christ-incarnate, and the self-styled "God of ****". They drifted up and down the state in fluctuating numbers, with the "family" topping fifty members at it's peak. From Mendocino and the Haight to Hollywood, Los Angelus, Death Valley, Manson's nomads followed their leader as the Summer of Love became a nightmare. .....(skipping some parts about what religious organizations they were involved with)..... Manson grew obsessed with death and "Helter Skelter", his interpretation of a Beatles song predicting race war in America. In Manson's view, once had been driven to the point of violence, helpless white people would be annihilated, leaving Manson and his family to rule the roost. What's the point of telling you guys this you may ask...? Well, there really isn't one, I just felt like letting you know. Knowledge is powa! mrgreen

I had actually found that out a while ago.
But here's another fun fact: Colonel Dewey, was a real life person. According to my history book, Dewey, during the Vietnam war(I think), didn't want to start a war with the Vietnamese, but when he got to Vietnam he was killed by Vietnamese soldiers thinking he was French, 3nodding

Well, in history today I remember there's like this city or river or something that was named Holland or at least had Holland's name in it. I don't remember it that well...maybe that's why I'm not doing to good in History...

That's a weird coindidence, eh, Steevoo? razz
But, yeah. I already knew about Manson. Did you know that Marylin Manson got his last name from that Charles Manson? It's true. razz And I'm sure everyone knows where the "Marylin" part comes from! rolleyes
Anyways... I know a lady who I think was related to one of the people murdered by The Family (Manson's cult). I know she knew one of the ladies killed, but I think she was related to her. Like... a cousin or something. And I think it was one of the people from the Tate-LaBianca murders.. neutral
The Who have a song about Timothy Leary. Timothy Leary's dead. No, no, no, no, he's outside looking in. Timothy Leary's dead. No, no, no, no, he's outside looking in. He'll fly his astral plane, takes you trips around the bay, brings you back the same day, Timothy Leary. Timothy Leary.
I already know some stuff about what went on in the 60s. At least... just the general things. razz I was once watching something about music in the 60s on some public educational channel, I believe. Forgot what was going on. razz

On the topic of Charles Manson... I watched a horrible presentation about him in English today. It was supposed to cover his cult (the Family and such), but basically the guy only gave a little intro thing that barely scratched the surface of the Tate-LaBianca murders, then let a video that the History Channel (or someone) did on it for the rest of the presentation. Sheesh! rolleyes There was waaaaaaaaay more to cover about that guy and the Family than just the bleedin' Tate-LaBianca murders.
Anyway... just thought I'd ramble a bit. razz The stuff in around the 60's is fascinating stuff, what with all the Vietnam War protestors like Abbie Hoffman and such.

Well Eureka Seven is pretty much one big cultural reference, mostly Japanese and American culture, but probably others too.

Every E7 episode name was the name of a song, and there were so many references to real life apart from that. And the Nirvash's name had something to do with the Summer of Love, in real life, as well, I can't remember what. And the songs that were in E7, the techno-ish ones, were awesome. I found them and have them on my Zune. mrgreen
