Proud, serious, honorable, and loyal to a fault. He will betray no friend, and will fiercely defend those who are in need. He also has an unfortunate combination of traits, wherein he never makes judgments based on first impressions or rumor, but once betrayed will hold a grudge for years if not indefinitely. In social situations he is open and friendly, inquisitive in an almost childish way, but easily silenced when in fear of offending those around him.

He has been in the service of many, most commonly to minor Russian nobility with eclectic tastes, serving as a companion, bodyguard or even as a slave. As such he has a variety of interesting skills, including fencing and chess, knows several traditional dances (including gypsy dances), and understanding of such things as antiques, literature, and fine teas.
His body is latticed with many scars. Some are from duels, some from cruel or possessive masters. His jewelry for him are not pieces of wealth or status, but links to the past; each was a gift from a generous or beloved master, or in some cases, a lover.
