This thread reserved for the rendezvous of Hige and Yero! Since Yero and Whinn plan to leave the packlands and head north, lets say Yero wandered off for a couple hours to mull on his future (Sorry, Whinn n.n; She wanted to leave right away, but Les isn't on.) and on the way he runs into his dashing "lil bro"! ;D

Pitchy paws beat silently against the cooling earth, Yero had never lost his knack for silence. The compact male padded down an unfamiliar worn deer path, his oddly feathered ears tilted slightly back against his pate, and his head low to the ground. It wasn't an omega's gait, one could tell from his bushy tail that trailed behind him like a banner, but it was obvious that the raven wolf was in deep thought.

Alone! He and Whinn would be setting out on their own. A quiet thrill pulsed through his veins. He would miss his surrogate mother, but he was a grown wolf now. Whinn talked of starting a family.. Yero's heart sang. It would be difficult, just the two of them, no pack to nurse their children, but safe on the banks of the lazy river, what harm could come to carefully watched pups? And he would watch them carefully. Yero puffed up unwitingly. Why, he may not be a natural father figure, but those pups would be the most protected in the world. His red eyes clouded with the promise of the future.

And such were his thoughts as a familiar scent reached his nostrils. Yero flicked his ears forward and raised his head. Could that be...?

It was! Hige had finally returned to his packlands with the new members in tow-- to put it any old way --and now the Alpha was patrolling the area outside of the borders to see if any wolves had passed that way, and how close, at that. His nose was working for once. Hige had a finely tuned sense of smell, perhaps to balance the fact that he didn't usually move as silently as he could in his younger days. his mountain size made it a little more difficult to move casually about undetected in a forest full of snapping twigs. He could be silent when it came time to hunt, however, so it suited him fine.

In any case, having a sensitive nose made the job of "patrol and scout" much quicker, much easier.

He emerged from the shadows of further off, becoming more visible as he grew closer. Anyone that knew Hige would immeditately recognize the band around his neck, the odd marking that he bore which made him unmistakeable for anyone else.

"Yero?"

Yero's ears flattened in surprise and his eyes widened at the sight of his 'little' brother materializing from a swath of shadows. Was that great brute really...? But how could it be anyone else. After a couple seconds of stupor, the smaller male lunged from his frozen pose, bouncing towards the other in an undignified dance. "Hige!" He barked in his rumbly voice, buffeting the other's shoulder with his forhead. "It is you! Little brother, how you've grown!" Skidding back a step, he halted, flashing his friend a sardonic grin as his dark plume began to wag in a welcoming way.

"Yeah, it's me alright. Talk about growth spurts, huh?" He asked, sheepishly at that. Grinning as Yero bounded forward, Hige took a few delighted steps to a side and foward of his own, partially circling his brother. His tail wagged like a raised flag, wuffing a few low barks. "How long has it been? What brings you down this way?"

Yero flicked his ears towards Hige, his pink tongue lolling lazily as he settled himself on inky haunches. He'd always had a habit of seating himself when talking to others, not to mentioned it helped with the view. Yero couldn't help but feel as if he was looking straight up his nose at his massive brother. "Since you first set out with Loki and Thayne," He answered the rhetoric without thinking. "My, don't you look like quite the alpha," Yero noted Hige's raised brush of a tail, and the easygoing swagger that he had seen signs of when the male was young. The black wolf shook his head with a low chuckle. There was his brother for you. The tan wolf had a way of setting others at ease with his happy-go-lucky personality. Yero himself was delighted for the distraction. Hige offered an outlet he hadn't been able to develop with other members of the pack.

"I was just off on a wander. Whinn's talking about leaving the pack tonight, setting out on our own. I guess I just wanted to give this place one last look before we left. And you? Finally coming up for a visit?" He quirked an impish brow.

(( Eee, sorry, I guess Yero would be closer to the packlands than we first thought. Hmm.. it can't make too much of a difference, can it? How bout I just bend the laws of physics and teleport the little lug where I want him to be. xd ))

((XD *lol* They can be wherever, Hige could be patrolling as far as halfway, after all. He wants to know what the status is, overprotective dad in training here, too. X3))

"Just a week or so after the pups were born, right?" Hige grinned, remembering exactly now. He stepped back a pace and settled onto his stomach, a most comfortable pose for him, especially when talking to old friends or family. He'd felt at ease with Yero right from the second meeting, the first being when he was a pup, with that uncertainty. They hadn't been brothers then, really, as Hige was still just new to the lands. "You think? I don't know, it feels like a pretty stuffy title if you ask me." He joked with a crooked expression.

Hige would've given just about anything to hear that someone other than Loki saw any kind of alpha in him. He'd been struggling with the title since a few days after arriving at what was now their home. It wasn't that he didn't accept it, it was just hard to figure if he was doing things right, sometimes. Maybe he wasn't aggressive enough, maybe he was too easy going, he'd only ever been around the most somber of alphas for the entire better half of his life. All this, "dignity, pride, leadership, honor, and responsibility" got to him from time to time, like maybe he was just fooling himself.

"Sort of. I'm just trying to get used to this pack business, we've had a spectator role for most of it, y'know? What about you? Getting your own place, huh?" Smirk. >3 "Translation: When do I get to be an uncle?" Smiiiiirk. >D

"Don't even think about it," Yero said of the title with a smile. "It seems to me that it should be a fluid concept. Whoever steps up into it brings their own strengths and it adjusts acordingly," The black wolf cocked his head with a smile. "Either way, I figure the best way to tell is look at the kind of wolves that follow you," He beat his tail gently against the earth, letting his point sink in. He hoped the younger wolf would hear it.

"Our own place?" He chuckled. "I guess you could say that. We're hoping to go back to our old den in the north. Whinn longs for pups, and I'll admit, I do too, though I'm not sure what kind of father I'd make..."

Hige certainly appreciated the wise words and advice, just as strongly as he'd longed to hear them. He let his tail wag a bit behind him with it flopping from side to side now. Hey, his brother did have a point!

"We'll have to come see you guys on our next stop by the freelands, then. If you guys ever want to come visit us, too, you're welcome to." He had not learned of the river that Whinn claimed, or he would have known to mention that it probably fed into their main source of water. "I'm pretty sure it's just like taking on a new rank, you don't think about it." He grinned a bit. "You just do what comes naturally. I think that any daughters of yours will have a time trying to bring suitors home,"

Now his grin was good natured teasing, watching his elder brother turn the idea of pups over in his mind. Hige and Loki also wanted a family, and if it hadn't been for the fact that they hadn't suceeded yet they would probably not leave their lands for weeks!

"I can't blame you guys for wanting runts of your own, me and Loki are after a litter ourselves. I think she's more set on it than me, though, she's exactly like mom, you know?"

"But of course! I would love to bring Whinn to visit your pack once we have settled." Yero nodded, liking the idea. "I have often wondered what the ocean is like. Is it true you cannot see beyond?" The black wolf shook his head, trying to imagine a body of water so big.

Yero slid down onto his stomach, momentarily nonplussed by Hige's comment. The fact that his brother could already see visions of Yero's pups when Yero himself had hardly dared to imagine made it all the more real. A daughter.. would Yero truly have a daughter? The idea seemed too grand for words. Yero momentarily pictured his young and Hige's own pups as playmates someday and a secretive smile spread across his face. He chuckled and said: "And if I have any daughters or sons for that matter I'll bring them as well. How's that?"

He couldn't help but laugh as Hige talked of the weakness for pups Loki shared with Selia. "Females," He joked with mock-pompous bluster. "Can't help but love the pups, can they?"

A belt of laughter followed up on the end of Yero's replies. It was out of amusement, hope, as well as joy. The idea of being an uncle was a plesant one, Hige had a soft spot for pups that he was related to, be it by blood or by adoption. He just would not so readily admit to that, lest he get teased.

"Of course they can't, especially when they had adorable little buggers like us wandering around! And yeah, it's hard to believe, but wait till you see it with your own eyes. It just goes on for miles!" Hige smirked a bit lopsidedly thinking about it. Everyone generally had the same reaction when hearing about the sea, and it was interesting information that he rather enjoyed sharing just for the shock-value. His smirk melted back into a wolven grin, jaws pulling back to let his tongue flop loose. "Yeah, 'dad'," Hige looked a bit more cheeky, falling into the game of teasing again. "bring the youngin's! I'll be curious to see how much of a spitting image they are to you and momma' dear."

At this point his grin calmed slightly, and he moved to flop onto his side and look up at his brother lazily. The sun bled through the leaves of the trees soaking his pelt with splotches of light. It was then that old, old scars were visible on his side, just barely. Testiment to his scuffle with Garaa all those weeks ago. The two were on at least tolerable terms now, but it had been ages since Hige or Loki saw the youth. His mate was hoping to see them visit soon with news of their pack.

(( *pounces Tahja in a blur* AAHH! Did you SEE? YERO HAS DAUGHTERS! xd ))

Yero gave a first class snigger as he and Hige shared the joke. It seemed a little out of character for him, but the black wolf couldn't help it. After a moment of slight hesitation, Yero, perhaps feeling emboldened by his brother's sly grin and all this talk of the future, started again in a more 'confidential' tone. "Well.. come to mention it, Whinn and I have.. um.." He broke off into a foolish grin. "--I'm beginning to think she might be expecting.. though she hasn't told me anything, yet."

The black male ducked his head down with a sheepish sort of pride. When he glanced back up though, he saw the testaments to old wounds on his brother's coat. His eyes hardened a little and he asked in a serious tone: "Hige, have you been hurt?"
