Ok, I like the anime and manga, BUT I like the manga a whole lot more. And sure, there's people like that- but I'm a little different (or so I suppose).

See, I like the very beginning of the manga- I love the first art style (before it changed to the common one that we all see now.) And I actually like the manga before it gets into the card game.

Yes, I know. Yu-Gi-Oh is about the card game and egyption past (i really like the egyption part of it). I don't know what it is, but the stuff before was fantastic in my eyes. The creativity of each shadow game, the messy art style, the darkness to it- it just made it irresistable. But a lot of people I knew didn't like the beginning.

Here's the discussion:
Did you like the beginning of the manga? The style? The darkness? Did you dislike it?
Anime or manga? Pros and cons
Which part (story, season, w/e) was your favorite?
When was dueling in the story the best for you?

I liked the beginning mangas (volumes 1-7 I believe), even though they didn't have that much to do with the plot as the story advanced. It was nice when Yami seemed a bit more sadistic. As for the art style, I think I like it better as it is now, but maybe that's just because it was the way I saw it first.

I can never decide between the anime and manga. The manga seems a tad more... realistic, I suppose? As in, seemed more natural before they cut everything. Like guns. People don't tend to panic as much when a guard is just pointing his finger. The anime is longer though, and includes some things the manga left out, so I like that aspect of it. The manga, I felt, was a little short, even though it takes up a whole shelf on the bookcase. It just seemed like too big a jump from finishing the Battly City tournament to hopping on a plane to Egypt.

I'd probably have to say Battle City was my favorite. There were a lot of clues about Yami's past revealed in that season, and in my opinion, it had the best dueling. Some of their moves still seemed... off, but it was better than most (like playing Time Wizard as a magic card in Duelist Kingdom). Also, that series had Marik, and he's my favorite Yu-Gi-Oh villain, him and his psychotic dark side.

lol Guns as fingers rofl , yea- I remember that. I liked battle city, and for the same reason (not so much Marik tho- he's ok. But i do love the psychodic parts ^^). But I like Duelist kingdom, because I felt very close with the chacters.

Another reason I love the manga- you become close w/ the characters. They have essence to them. I also thought all the shadow games were intersesting and fitting to the 'trespasers'.

Here's another question to all- the uncut DVD's of YGO. Did you see them/own? Did you like/dislike? I liked- esp. the music. I disliked the few different voices. (i get too use to the originals)

I like the begining of the manga, though Jou's hair was somewhat...freaky O.o

yeah xD, my fav part of the zero season was Baku vs Yami with the monster world rpg, so cewl.

my fav season was the memory arc both anime and manga, though manga is waaaaay cooler if you ask me.

and when was dueling the best? i guess when people went all like "KILL! " in that kinda way with their monsters X3 ..yeah i like the violent type of duels X3 so marik and bakura duels where great!... mrgreen

I liked it when Yami Yugi was sadistic and everything. It put an interesting spin on how we usually see/saw him in the anime. As for which I like more, I'd say both the anime and manga are awesome in there own ways.

I love both the anime and manga. The anime because that was my first intro to it, then the manga because it's more realistic to what the creator had in mind.

And because no one points at someone and expects them to freak like they were holding an invisible gun.

I especially love how Yami is so sadistic. ...It makes me just the tiniest bit sad to look at the two and see "Set a convict on fire!Yami" and then "Friendship helped me defeat you Pegasus!Yami." That, and the fact that it was on more than cards, it was all kinds of games he played.

As for my favorite season, I'm torn between Battle City and Millennium World as my favorite seasons. On one hand there's Marik, and on the other there's Thief King Bakura.

haha! Usually, when me and my friend talk about anime, and I begin to talk about yugioh, I usually start the convosation with, "Yami's cool, he sets people on FIRE!!!" The manga wins my heart because I love the fact it's all different games.

And they had yo yos

And they had Bruce Lee in an arcade game

And fire XD

I'm definitely going to say the manga. Especially volumes 1-7. Oh man, I remember when the first two volumes came out and being a "n00b" to the fandom, I had expected to see what I had watched faithfully on Kids WB (And continue to watch on 4Kids TV >>). I really like the anime too (seriously--2010 isn't coming soon enough! ;;--*Supposed date of re-releasing the uncut DVDs*), but there's some things that the manga makes a bit clearer.

When I read the first page, and eventually the whole first seven volumes, I saw way past the dueling. I saw a sadistic spirit who killed and drove people to madness! (I was *squee* When I saw Yami with a knife! ^_^) I also loved the contrast of the crazy Shadow Games that Yami made his 'victims' play.

And learning about Ryou's angst-y past also made me happy--considering in the anime he was thrown in so suddenly.

Even though the later volumes are filled with duels, and Yami isn't so sadistic anymore, there is always the underlying darkness that I love oh so much! <3 (My God, look at Yami Bakura and Yami Malik! Dx)

I also wanted to add that even though it's darker- there's a lot of parts that are cute. I dunno- seeing his realationship with his grandpa is heart warming and cute. The jokes are pretty good to.

Hee hee, I just remembered in the first one, Yugi says the puzzle is a momentum of his grandpa, and his grandpa yells out, "I'm not dead yet!" Almost peed myself laughing cause I thought about Montey Pithon & the Holy Grail. rofl

And grandpa is a dirty old man D:

The first 7 mangas were based off the original Idea of Yugioh which included multiple different game styles. The whole Duel against Kaiba about the Blue Eyes White Dragon card was based on only a mock set up of Magic the Gathering. But Konami saw a way to market that particular game and had the whole series altered because of that.

Malik and Yami Malik are pretty good indicators of this because originally there was no 'Spirit of the Ancient Nameless Pharaoh' in the Sennen puzzle. Yugi 'himself' had a split personality. In which you were looking at a partially unhinged, very protective, version of Yugi running all over the place which supports the theory that Yugi is the reincarnation of the Pharaoh not just a vessel for the Pharaoh's soul.

As for the violence and pointing fingers, one should note that in Japan Guns are illegal. So there is no real reason why a kid show would not show guns. (Espeically in a respectful light as a weapon that can kill) since access to such weapons is restricted nationwide. Unlike in the States where getting a gun is as easy as going to Wal Mart. The odds are far less in that country that a little boy could grab a gun from the cabinet go into another room and shoot his older brother pretending that he's a guard and his brother is Kaiba for example.

As for the side stories... I don't like any of them with only Noa's having any partial sense and the VR game being anywhere near close to right. All the other side stories corrupted characters too much.

Doma: Turning Yami Yugi into a self absorbed dueling machine that would rather sacrifice his monsters to something he knows is wrong for his own gain is OOC.

KC Grand Prix: I'm expected to believe in less then one year Kaiba got a fully running Theme park up and running in another country?

Besides side stories are only made when the Anime has caught up with the Manga and they need something to fill it in. Which is why VR, Noa, Doma, and KC Grand Prix are Filler Arcs.

Disneyland took a year to build =). And maybe it wasn't a year? Maybe it was two years? We weren't given any indication how close the arc's were to eachother.

The first seven manga books were really good, I liked how dark it was and that it didn't revolve around the card games so much as in later issues. The first manga was my favorite, it's what got me into Yu-Gi-Oh to begin with. :3

The anime and manga both have there strengths and flaws. It's fun to see it come to life in the anime, all though I don't watch the dub one very often, I usually watch it with subs. However, I enjoy the manga more. I don't know why, I just do. *w*

My favorite part of the manga is when Atem goes back to his past and wakes up, but doesn't know where the hell he is. xD Season 0 and 1 are my favorite for the anime. =3

The best duels where the Battle City ones. I don't know why, but I just liked them the best. @w@

Yes, season 0 for the anime is quite yummy! lol. I would love for them to translate it (i guess with the original english cast- a new one might be scary x_x) and bring it over here. But even in season 0, Yami doesn't set the convict on fire *cries* they made it look like a shadow game, but no burning him sad

anyway....

Yugi's voice is WAY too feminine in season 0 X( - heh, but Kaiba's is pretty cool. And the theme song is the sweet X3
