Freedom. Fantastic unadulterated freedom. For so long, too long, the lemur woman had been stricken with the stomach flu. But, it wasn't like when she had when she was human, no this was far worse. Worse in that instead of the normal trip to the doctor, pop pills after, then recover a week later, this time she felt the inherited need to hide and whimper and hope for the best. She didn't want anything from the labs. Instinct, animal instinct, made her simply hide out in her duplex until she was in tip top shape. She never even known what it was that had gotten her sick in the first place, but chances were it was part of her new diet. Sure, she still ate from the cafeteria, but more and more she was beginning to 'forage'. It started with a simple curiousity when she was up in the trees. No one was around, so she had no worry about anyone seeing her. Just a little nibble of a small fruit she had found, which escalated to berries, fruit, vegetation, and anything her hazel eyes had come across. It wasn't her fault though! She just couldn't help it.
But then she'd gone too far. While dangling her legs over the tree one day and watching the beautiful island horizon, she forgot what it was to be human. So much so that she found herself reaching into a nearby bird's nest, cracking open a certain object, and oh yes, most decidely drinking what was in it. But once she realized what she was doing she was immediately disgusted, instantly blaming the damned lemur within her. But blaming aside it also left her with this nasty flu or food poisoning, or whatever medical name for it.
Things were better now though. She seemed to be recovered and back to her usual shape. So now she was heading out from the village to go back towards the trees. She'd miss them for far too long. It was time she'd meet up with them once more.

Victor had been spending some time alone after his run in with Dee, debating with himself when he should talk to her again, it had been sometime and he hoped silently to himself that he'd see her before she started to change, and might become unrecognisible. that frightened him a bit, meeting someone new like that and then worrying that the next time he saw her she might not be the same.
the lizardman quickly shook these thoughts from his head, he had just had a peaceful time resting on the beach and was heading towards the village, thinking he ought to get something to eat soon. He wasn't paying all too much attention as he moved out from the path, and unknowingly in Maryke's direction.

Maryke continued to walk in an almost saunter. It was funny, at the start of her transformations she was depressed, even a little suicidal at times, but now it was getting easier to manage. Sure, the fur and tail were still something she really didn't want to wake up to. But they were both managable. So she walked with the confidence of what she had been so very long ago. Despite not having any power she still acted like she did.
Of course that confidence ate up real quick when she saw the .....thing appraching her. She couldn't tell what it was at first glance. Only it was something not human, scary, and heading straight her way. She instinctively took a few steps back.

The scuttling, creeping and crawling lizardman was paying too much attention to the ground in front of him, avoiding a few roots and a rock, to notice Maryke until she had seen him and had started to retreat a few steps back. Victor noticed her then, first seeing the lemur-woman's legs, then looked up further, blinking his eyes and tilting his head to the side to get a better look at her.
She was covered in fur, and looked like she had finished changing or almost finished but he couldn't place what the woman could be, but what he could tell, was that he wasn't what she expected to see today.
"ah Hello..." Victor was never very good with introductions, and he kept his snout down a little, hoping she hadn't already seen both mouths. this was a bit awkward

Maryke suddenly felt like a ballon that had been popped without warning. The soft normal beating of her heart suddenly broke into drum like poundings. She had seen so many islanders know, but she certainly knew THAT wasn't any animal that existed. A lizard but.....lizards didn't have two mouths? Yes, she definitely saw that before he ducked it out of the way. But then she realized the thing had spoken. What did it say? She let her hazel eyes ticked back and forth before she finally realized that it had been nothing more then one solitary greeting.
"Hey....." she said, or rather forced herself to say as her tail began to twitch behind her, clearly showing her unease.

Victor's chest arms shifted as he gave his arms a nervious rub, his tail flicked behind him, watching the lemur-woman and looking her over once again, looking at her hazel eyes before speaking up again. "Wass Jusst coming back from the Beach, didn't think anyone would be ussing thisss path." He shifted his body a little to the side, the claws of his right foreleg tapping the dirt path. "I'm Victor by the way"

The more he talked, despite how strange the vocalization was, the more she was put at ease. After all she'd survived a lust hungry tiger, four changes, ferious heshe cat thing, and was now dating the resident lake monster. Then there was the countless occurances she'd survived in her madam days so that this too would pass. The fear dwindled, though was still in the back of her mind. But that was more of the lemur.
"Maryke," she said managing a smile, before she chuckled slightly. "I didn't think anyone would be using this path either. Lucky us, huh?" She regretted the words as soon as they escaped her maw. This guy didn't seem all that favorable in the luck department.

"...Yeah I guesssss sso" Victor stated as he leaned back and sat up a bit more, and indeed, he didn't really have it very good in the luck department. "Nicse to meet you Maryke, I know I haven't been very ssocialible or meeting many new people...you can probably imagine why." Victor gave a short bitter chuckle. "Mossst people I meet is by accident...leassst you haven't ssscreamed or run off yet"

She didn't know just how to respond to that. She knew from her former line of work that people who already knew they were ugly or screwed up, or just plain unwanted didn't like to be lied to. They already knew it was a lie, so why bother. The cold hard truth was something so implanted in their brain no matter how you sugar coated it, it still came out sour and condescending.
"I've seen worse," she said, letting a light shrug grace her shoulders. "So I take it you've been here a while?"

Victor shook his head, he really couldn't believe that she had seen worse, but didn't say anything to disagree with her. "I've been here, feelsss like three, four monthsss...longer than I would have liked, but I'm ssssure the sssame goesss for everyone" the Lizardman moved over closer to a tree, and used his strong forelimbs and claws to help himself stand up, leaning against the tree for support, it made it easier to speak to someone when you could be closer to eyelevel, it hurt Victor's neck to look up all the time.
"What brought you to the island?"

She appreciated the eyelevel they know had. It seemed less threatening for the both of them. Not that she was afraid he would bite her ankles or something, but because it was easier to get a bearing when you could look someone in the eyes.
"I thought I was taking a much needed vacation," she said with a hint of a smile on her maw. "I was really excited about the rest, funny how that turned out. What about you?"

"I wassss offered a Psssychology internssship, after my bank account had been drained..." Victor shook his head a bit, looking back it seemed a bit foolish now that he had been on the island a while. "Wasss in college to be a doctor, but now that won't happen...."

"Well you never know," she offered, know daring to come closer to him, forgetting about her intial fear. "There's a lot of crazy people here, or you know...those wanting to hash out their feelings. I'm sure they'd prefer to hear it from an islander instead of the whackjobs that run this place. Besides, who says you need a fancy office and pretty white coat to help someone."

Victor nodded to that "I had been ssspeaking to another issslander, about having group therapy sssessssions for people that would like to talk about thingsss, a bit like an AA meeting, jussst an idea for now"
the lizardman shifted his grip on the tree, his tail shifting behind him. "Issss true, don't need a fancsy office....but might try rearranging my duplexs need to get it fixsed to be better for me, harder to reach thingsss"

"Well sign me up for that!" she said half jokingly, half not. Maryke had been layers of under the surface troubles. Things that she kept hidden from everyone else, but was still there nagging her, biting at her. She still had childhood nightmares and she still had things she needed to deal with. Of course back at mainland she had tried therapy, but it never seemd to work. So the joke was evident, but there was still deeper things there.
"Oh yeah, my bo...." she stopped, correcting herself instantly, "my friend had to get a special duplex. These people may be heartless, but at least their accomadating."
