Some objects have power. Personalities too, for that matter.

Trouble is brewing in the land of Ashara. Ever since the beginning of spring, rumors of a new prophecy that tells of gods, heroes, traitors, and swords have been spreading rapidly. No one, however, knows when or how this will happen.

A few people, though, are about to find out. Luckily, as far as the fate of the world is concerned, the Sword of A Thousand Truths is quite aware of this prophecy and is currently doing its very best to work its way from the sleepy little town of Breckenhollow toward its destiny at the capital, Zahran. The thing is, whatever ancient all-knowing being designed the sword in the first place forgot to include any significant means of self-propulsion. The sword is quite capable, however, of coercing a few beings of flesh into helping it.

Unbeknownst to the shop owner, in fact, the sword currently lies underneath one of its shinier cousins in the bottom of a display case in the middle of Hock's Valuables on the edge of town. Quite a variety of people visit the little half-pawnshop half-general store, for one reason or another--in fact, when the sword finally releases the magic it's been building up for some time now, it should catch quite the interesting group indeed.

And, by the way. Her name is Vivian.

So all you peoples get to be "escorts" (also known as victims). If, that is, if, you fill out a pretty profile and follow all zeh directions and stuff. To a degree cliches and such are alright, since I'd like some humor in here—but if you're writing a cliché and you're really truly serious about it, that's not so good. I want people, not pieces of cardboard with faces drawn on them. As you'd be able to guess if you know me, heh.

So yeah. I'm going to let it be a standard fantasy world for the sake of simplicity and not making you guys read through thirty pages of back information you would then forget three seconds later. If you have any questions about what's allowed, just PM or IM me 'bout it. Or if you mess up I can be irked at you for a few seconds while you change it.

Now, we have zeh rules:

--Grammar counts. As in, I want literate, mid to upper level writing in both your posts and on your profile.
--PM profiles to me.
--No colored font. Just cause it irks me.
--Make sure you have permission before controlling anything about another character.
--Keep OOC to a minimum.
--Paragraphs. Paragraphs. All the time. Every time. Put the word paragraph in the title of your PM if you read that part.
--I'm cool with swearing and all that. Romance is also cool and potentially even awesome so long as I don't get nauseous reading your posts.
--Use your common sense, sillyhead.

And finally, zeh profile. There are extra questions on the end that I most likely won't post up for everyone to see. But I still want to read your answers. *insert evil laugh here*

EDIT: You can expect me to give you feedback before I accept your character. It's normal and all that good stuff.

Gaia name:
Character name: (it really irks me when people go "if you don’t know what this is, you're too stupid for this roleplay." Really now. Aren't they stupid for thinking they need to say that? After all, if a person really is that unbelievably stupid, you think you could tell from oh, the rest of the profile. Anyway. Make sure it fits in with the fantasy world thing.)
Gender: (cause some people like to have androgynous names)
Age: (How many years young are you? Actually, that irks me too. Heheh. Avoid fifteen/sixteen if you're debating.)
Appearance: (remember height and weight and all that good stuff. And details.)
History/personality: (I like to think of the two as having something to do with one another, hence why they get to share a colon. And gimme lotsa details. Edit: Allow me to specify that this is the area that most people like to jump off the cliche cliff. Suggestions: If at all possible, have your character's parents live. Avoid other major sources of shallow angst. That kind of thing.)
What would the character do if/when his/her mother died? And feel, for that matter.
Assuming he/she has at least a little money, where does he/she get it from?
What are the chances this character could solve a Rubik's cube?
How high could the character count before he/she got bored or distracted?
What has the character saved or kept around over his/her life?
What's the oddest thing he/she owns?
Will he/she eat beef?
What would the character say if I randomly walked up and pinched him or her while sticking my tongue out and making sounds like a dying rhinoceros?

That's all, folks. We'll start when we get enough people.

Player Characters

Gaia name: Gaararox
Character name: Colby Tieross
Gender: Female
Age: 16
Appearance: Colby is 5’4 (About 162 cm.) weighs 120 lbs (around 57 kg I think…) and has bright blue eyes. Her hair is dirty blonde and bleaches out a bit over the summer. Colby has a small, thin, white, scar on her left shoulder, and another scar across her right hand.
History/personality: Colby’s family is from a long line of farmers, from both her mother and her father’s side. They own a very small plot of land, in which they have a house and a garden. Other than that, they work for the local landlord on his farm with many other people. She has an elder brother and a younger sister. Both work for the landlord, her sister is a house servant, and mainly does their laundry. Her brother, like Colby and both of her parents, works outside on the farm, planting and harvesting various crops depending on the season. Colby is a happy, out-going person. Who doesn’t like it when people mess with her. Despite her nice demeanor, she can hold a grudge for a long time. Honesty, loyalty, and bravery are the three virtues Colby admires most, and she tries to always behave accordingly.

Gaia name: Abiisan
Character name: Jarrick Abiinor
Gender: Male
Age: 18
Appearance: He is five foot nine inches and a thin one hundred fifty pounds. He has ear length black hair and typically wears loose, neutral toned clothing with a vest or jacket.
History/personality: He was raised by both his mother and his father until the age of 12 when his mother died. He continued living with his dad, who was the sole cobbler of Breckenhollow, where he and his father before him were born and raised. Because of this, Jarrick was able to live a rather comfortable, if modest, early life. At the age of 16, he actively began work with his father as an apprentice cobbler and did well even if he wasn't particularly enthusiastic about it. He is accepting of most that happens to and around him, but he really wants something more from his life. He's a patient person who usually puts some thought into what he does, though when something really matters to him, he tends to think less clearly. He is also something of a reader, though he doesn't prioritize books over his duties.

Gaia name: Yaku-chan
Character name: Norumyha Altyrien [Nor-oo-mee-ah Al-tear-ee-in] (aka Noru)
Gender: Female
Age: 19
Appearance:
Standing around 5' 8", she weighs a slight 130lbs. She takes after her father with strong features. Her eyes are a light gray and her hair is a dark ashy black. Though she has Zahranian features, her mother's lineage gives her an exotic tinge to her appearance. She has a light pinch to the corner of her almond eyes and only slight cheekbones. Slim, she has a light build. With her long, straight hair - which she always keeps tied back - and her tendency to wear fighting clothes, she is not the most feminine woman one might meet. On her travels, she is always seen with high-cut leather boots, flexible clothing, that often times is lose and hides her figures. Due to the fact that she always wears a hat, she is often mistaken for a boy. The only feature that might seem odd on her is the tattoo of the house of Altyrien, which can be found on her left shoulder blade.
History/personality:
Born in the capital city of Zahran to her mother, a noble woman, and her father, one of the generals of Ashara's forces, one might say that Noru led a very sheltered life. As a little girl, her mother, with her lavishness and selfish demeanor, raised her daughter with a strict detachment. The only time her mother would have anything to discuss with her would be when considering any feminine aspects of her life, such as her appearance. Out of habit, Noru grew to become slightly vain in nature. Aside from this, Miss Altyrien would say nothing. Due to her mother's sickly nature, and the slow but certain consumption from her illness, Noru felt a certain pity towards the beautiful, yet frigid and dying woman. Her father, however, was another matter. He was a strong in every aspect, and cold as well. He felt no pity nor easiness towards anyone, even his own daughter. At the age of four, Noru's father taught her all aspects of fighting, whether it be with her mind, her soul, or her body. Soon, she was hardened, both emotionally and physically, and capable of defeating even some of her father's commanders, as long as no magic was used -this being because her father found no need for the eccentricities of magic and sorcery. At the same time, she was forced by her mother to learn some feminine aspects, the ones chosen being Zahranian dance and her mother's native dance.

Growing up, Noru had only detached attention from her family. They trained her to prepare herself for noble life with the utmost strictness. Due to this, she grew to have a stubborn nature, one which often got her into trouble. As her parents dealt with their duties and their own demons, she grew to become a stunning young lady; however, the firey temper that she had often deterred other individuals from contacting her. She spoke her mind always, was bluntly honest, and had a strong, sometimes inflexible core. If she decided to accomplish something, she never deterred from her goal. At the age of fifteen, the capital court of nobles began to collapse around her family, and her father and mother both suddenly gained an extreme amount of power. Immediately, Noru was thrust into the political workings of the Zahranian court. The country was growing restless, and corruption began to spread like a poison as the nobles fought for power over the boy king. Due to some event unspoken of, Noru left her family and traveled away from the capital.

On her travels, she grew to become a force to be reckoned with. She'd often get into fights with individuals, especially with her sharp tongue, and as such, began to fight for money. She'd work as a mercenary, or guarded caravans on short journeys. This made her an unwanted companion, due to her knack to quickly jump into trouble anywhere she found it. Fighting with either a heavy sword or a glaive, she was not easily missed. During her travels, she came across a parchment with the name Breckenhollow. Deciding that she had been traveling aimlessly long enough, Noru, with her stubborn, determined, and firey nature, decided to head to the small town of Breckenhollow, taking it as a sign from the goddess.

Gaia name: Panpear
Character name: Keldan Litswall (“Just call me Kel the Magnificent.”)
Gender: Female
Age: 26
Appearance: Keldan stands at approximately five feet, eight inches. You never should ask a woman her weight, though if you guessed 140 pounds, you’d be about right. Her reddish brown hair is kept short, around her ears. Her eyes are brown. Her clothing generally involves looser fitting pants and a dress like vest of some outlandish color, under which a plainer shirt lies. Kel is almost never without her lute (in its protective case, of course), and a small knife (for peeling apples, amongst other uses).
History/personality: Keldan is a wandering bard, and has been for the past seven years. The day she left her home for good, with only her lute, a pouch full of her dad’s money, and all the good silverware/jewelry in the house was either the best day of her life or the worst mistake she ever made, depending on who you talk to. She had always taken an interest in music and stories, and with her upbeat and silly attitude, being a bard would be great! But when she had suggested the idea to her parents... they didn’t agree. Keldan grudgingly went along with their orders to stay home, help with chores, and be a productive member of society. It didn’t take too long before she went nearly insane with boredom (you can guess what happened next).

Of course, being a bard wasn’t the easy life Keldan thought it would be. More often than not, she had to do some menial labor in order to get enough money to eat. Many nights are spent sleeping out in the open, or in barns, or other places that aren’t inns. But she was enjoying her life; writing songs, singing songs, telling jokes, learning some slight of hand tricks, encouraging people to buy her food... yup, it was a dream.

At first Keldan was always on the go, staying only a night or two in each town. But as the years wore on, she began to stay longer, especially if she could make an arrangement with a local innkeeper. Now she spends a month or two in a town, perhaps visiting the surrounding area, and then moves onto another. Recently, she had been residing in Breckenhollow, but feels it’s about time for a change.

Gaia name: Kyground
Character name: Li Vesnos
Gender: Male
Age: 15
Appearance: Height: 4' 11'' Weight: 95 lbs. Short, has spiky brown hair that reaches to his ears. Brown, pale eyes.
History/personality:Though Li has been wandering with his parents for a while, he has gained little knowledge in anything. Though he would prefer to be able to learn, his current life style does not allow him to do so. His father, a traveling merchant, has been on his way to sell off the last of his stock and procure more. Li travels with him to try and find people to teach him things, like swordplay. He does have a sword that his parents saved up for for a long time. It has proven to be a decent sword, but is now quite dull from use. His mother, who has the tendency to stay home most of he time, is a baker. She runs a very small shop out in a small village, but she's a good cook so Li and his father are welcomed with a small cake for a successful trip. She chases them with a ladle if hey mess up with a stupid mistake, like forgetting a sale location. Li likes the rain in a way that few people understand, he not being one of those few. But other wise tries to be cheerful and regret free.

Gaia name: Azlaksar
Character name: Däg Cortsson
Gender: Male
Age: 33
Appearance: Däg is 6'2, around 210 pounds, and solidly built from years of working the forge. He has blond hair, with a few touches of gray, cropped close to his head (long hair can be a hazard in his line of work). His eyes are a clear blue, but somewhat sunken under a hard forehead and what almost constitutes a uni-brow.
History/personality: Following in his father (Cort)'s footsteps, Däg works in the local smithy. Däg began work at the smithy as soon as he was old enough to carry supplies and work a billows. Cort still owns and operates the business, having semi-retired from the harder work (which he still pokes into from time to time, despite Däg's concerns that he may hurt himself). The smithy also has three hired hands, since Däg is an only child.

His mother, Shenne, is a homemaker. She and Cort have been married for 37 years.

Däg is usually somewhat of a quiet man, but good-natured and even boisterous in the right situations (especially at the bar). There are some who would say he's not exactly the brightest bulb in the box, but he's a solid worker and very family-oriented. His temper fuse is very long, and he's been described as one of those people you never really see angry.

Gaia name: Electric Kool-Aid
Character name: Colin Mungo
Gender: female
Age: 20
Appearance: Colin is fairly tall at 5' 9" and fairly muscular pulling in 160lbs. She has long straight black hair and vivid green eyes. She is well figured *cough* and as a result has a past history of very VERY confused exes, (strangely enough most men don't like to find claw mark in bedsheets, or dog fur on the carpet, especially when they don't have a dog...). Colin can only perform full transformations, and supposedly can transform at will, although she's still working this one out. On full moons however she MUST change, regardless of her location. As a wolf she is mottled grey with an orangy tinge near her feet and snout, and black down her back. She stands one meter at the shoulder and maintains the 160lbs,which is rather formidable at night in the woods... She has heightened wolf senses during and after transformation.
History/personality: Colin's mother had been 100% sure that Colin was going to be a boy while she was pregnant. Therefore, she made no move to come up with a girl's name and official proclaimed "Colin" a unisex name. Colin grew up with 3 other brothers: Murtagh, Duncan, and Ian. She was the second youngest, between Duncan and Ian. They all used to play in the woods or on the moor. Because she was surrounded by brothers she was not brought up in a very feminine environment, and as a result tends to not be particularly squeamish (especially when it comes to creepy crawlies in one's bed). Very competitive with her brothers, she was dared by Ian hike through one of the woods at night. She agreed and met him at midnight on the hill just outside. Once she was inside, Ian got spooked and ran home (none too dry either), leaving Colin to her own devices. Rather than leave she decided to wait it out to prove to Ian she was braver than him. What a mistake that was. She was stalked and attacked by a wolf, but managed to get out with no more than a small bite on her ankle. The attack shook her quite a bit, and she didn't tell her family about the bite. But they found out eventually when she would disappear once a month, leaving claw marks on the floor, and the occasional dead chicken in her bed. Embarrassed by her transformations she tries desperately to hide them from people, and suppress the urges, because you'd really be surprised by the number of people who go running for silver if you even begin to say "werew-". As far as she knows her family is still alive in the Highlands, but she decided that travel suited her much better, best not to stay in one place, lest people catch on too much...

NPCs

'Cause I feel like it. And then if you're going "Wait, who's this guy again?", you can go look. Amazing.

Character name: The Sword of A Thousand Truths, or Vivian.
Gender: Female. Kind of.
Age: It's impolite to ask a lady's age, you know.
Appearance: Currently, she's a bit rusted. Her blade is average length, about two inches wide and thin enough to still be relatively light. A swirling pattern is etched along the metal, not that you can see it properly through the rust. Her hilt is made of a dark material that resembles the stone obsidian in appearance, though it feels more like a type of metal. The pommel and edges of the crossguard have the same etched pattern as the blade, in silver; a small pair of dark green gems also decorate the ends of the crossguard, and a large one dominates the pommel.
History/personality: Oh, you'll see...

Character name: Hock
Gender: Male
Age: 40s
Appearance: He's average height, has a small potbelly, and is graying a little at the temples. His nose is a bit hooked.
History/personality: He's gruff, a bit blunt, and not that patient, but he can be helpful if a customer looks worth it. He looks out for himself, his store, and his family above all else. You break it, you buy it.

Character name: Carilee
Gender: Female
Age: 17
Appearance: "She wore loose robes that looked rather scholarly, despite also looking like she was five years too young for them; her brown hair was gathered up on the top of her head and pinned down with a pair of metallic chopsticks, while a set of heavy-framed glasses were balanced on top of her otherwise petite nose." Carilee does look more like fourteen or fifteen than seventeen, especially since she's a bit on the short side at five foot three. Her eyes are actually light blue, but most people would call them grey.
History/personality: She's very scholarly and educated, and lately she's been working on how to raise a few demonspawn to do her chores for her. Her family owns an estate some miles away, but they've been visiting family in Breckenhollow. Carilee reads constantly, often paying more attention to her books than the rest of the world. She's a bit quirky too, to say the least.

The beginning...

The inside of the small shop was dark and rather crowded. A combination of used furniture and mismatched shelves dominated the space; each shelf in turn was stuffed with all manner of trinkets, tools, and baubles. One wall displayed carpets and drapery. The other held shears, pitchforks, scythes, swords, and a few hammers. A charmed box next to the shop keeper's counter held the most valuable objects; most of it was jewerly, but a few of the nicer swords and tools were kept there too.

Hock surveyed the room before him. It was the middle of the afternoon--often one of the busiest parts of the day, at least until it got so hot outside that no one wanted to do anything at all. A handful of customers were wandering around his aisles, but no one had bought anything for a good twenty minutes now. He suspected that this peculiar situation had something to do with the fact that his store was one of the few in the area with a cooling spell on it.

Colby scuttled down the crowded streets to the shop she had been directed to go to. Her landlord told her sister to pick up his new sword. Unfortunately Beth had too much work to do in the first place. So she had asked Colby to pick up the sword for her, and since there were so many people working on the farm. Her absence wouldn’t be easily noticed and the other workers, who were sure to notice it, weren’t likely to tell. Considering they were in a similar financial situation. Finally Colby arrived at her destination. Walking into the shop, her attention was grabbed by many different swords. Colby had never seen that many nice swords in one place.

It was quite comfortable in the shop. Much cooler than outside. Colby wandered down the nearest aisle, her hands traveling over the carpets and draperies hanging on the walls. One carpet particularly caught her attention. It was green with purple designs on it. Colby stopped in her exploring and stared at it for a moment. Finally she tore her attention from it, went to the front counter, and presented the letter from the landlord. Specifying which sword was his.
PostPosted: Tue Mar 27, 2007 7:09 pm

Hock raised an eyebrow as he took the letter from the rather silent girl. At least she had reason to be here, apparently. He pursued it quickly, checking that the signature and seal were official. He'd already gotten payment for this order, so that was in order at least. Hock folded the letter smoothly, laid it back on the counter, and bent over to unlock the case next to him. It was the one with the ruby in the pommel that he was looking for...

He found the sword and pulled it and the companion scabbard smoothly out of the case, which he relocked with a twist of his finger. "This is it," he said gruffly. "Can you be trusted to deliver it properly? Because it's not my fault if it gets lost along the way."

Meanwhile, another sword's awareness was stirring. She was still in the case, for now. But not for long.

Jarrick turned the final page of his book, not really surprised by the twist at the end as the author had one in nearly all of her books. As he glanced over the notes at the end, he tried to remember just when he was supposed to be somewhere again that day. When he couldn’t come up with anything, he resolved to at least head in the direction of his house in case he was missing something.

As he set down his novel, a blonde girl hurried by his bench. Momentarily distracted, he watched as she stopped at Hock's shop and slipped inside. More curious as to why she was in such a hurry to see Hock than he was about what work he might have to do, Jarrick nodded to the old man next to him and headed down the street; he figured that he had a few hours to kill and it didn’t hurt that the shop was cooled either.

She took the sword from where the man had put it on the counter and glared at the man angrily for a moment. “Yes, you can trust me to deliver this.” Colby said, not bothering to cover the anger in her voice. What did this man think? That Colby wanted a sword so badly she’d simply steal it?

It was a nice sword, Colby had to admit. Not that she knew much about swords. But compared to some of the other ones in the shop it was quite beautiful.

He recoiled a bit at her attitude. "Don't get all offended on me now. I don't really expect you, of all people, to run off with it, as doubtless your lord'd send all sorts of hunters after you if you did. But that doesn't mean some enterprising young hoodlum won't try to take it off your hands along the way," he added, digging around in a drawer next to him for a moment. "Hence why you get to sign this for me before I let you out of the shop. It says that I gave the sword to you in good faith that you would deliver it, more or less." The tiny print did indeed say that, though in many, many more words. The man set down a pen next to the document and scratched his chin, waiting expectantly.

Meanwhile, out in the street, a young girl named Carilee was walking towards home with her nose in a book. She wore loose robes that looked rather scholarly, despite also looking like she was five years too young for them; her brown hair was gathered up on the top of her head and pinned down with a pair of metallic chopsticks, while a set of heavy-framed glasses were balanced on top of her otherwise petite nose. So engrossed was she in the book--A Introduction to Demonology--that she failed to register the shadow passing beneath its pages in time to avoid running smack-dab into a black-haired boy travelling the other way.
PostPosted: Wed Mar 28, 2007 8:30 pm

Jarrick walked down the street with his eyes on the store-fronts, looking for Hock’s. It usually wasn’t too hard to find, seeing as it had such a wide variety of merchandise. He was so focused that he completely missed the girl headed towards him and ran right into her. Though he didn’t fall himself, the girl he had hit, not much younger than he was and rather pretty in a subtle way had, dropping her book in the process.

“I’m sorry about that,” Jarrick said apologetically as he knelt down to help her up. “I wasn’t really paying attention to where I was going and didn’t see you coming.”

"Oh." Carilee straightened her glasses and blinked at him for a moment. "Well, I'm sorry too." Belatedly, she took his proffered hand and pulled herself up. Her distracted look might've had something to do with the fact that a good half of her thoughts were still pondering the demon book, whatever had just happened in the real world.

Speaking of which--she bent down and picked the book up carefully, shaking out its pages in case any dust had gotten inside. "I'm sorry, darling." Carilee looked back up at the boy. "Would you happen to know where I could find a Sword of Bestial Summoning around here? Apparently I need one..." she mused.
PostPosted: Wed Mar 28, 2007 9:12 pm

Jarrick paused for a moment when he realized what she had called him. Though it was odd, he brushed it off and thought about her question, feeling better now that he knew she wasn’t hurt and that he wasn’t the only distracted one. One thing that he knew for sure was that he hadn’t heard of much less seen a place to buy a Sword of Bestial Summoning, though he supposed that it wouldn’t hurt to help her find a place where she might look for one. In fact, he could think of a few stores nearby that stocked swords, though only Hock’s had a wide enough variety to have a chance of carrying something by that name.

“Hock actually has a store just a bit further this way;” Jarrick finally answered "You must've just passed it. I'm actually headed there myself so I could, um, show you, If you like that is. It's right there, actually."
