There was no doubt that today was not a good day. Safuma had drove her siblings and family away, baring teeth as she had never done before running off to be alone. The cave dens were not for her, they were filled with family who had betrayed her and her heart was heavy. She never knew what she had lost, and would never know it as it had been taken from her too soon. She would never understand what it meant to be a queen of the pridelands, she would never understand what it meant to be the heiress and know her mother's every attentive glance. She felt as if everyone she had ever loved had held a great secret from her, and made her a fool.

The cub had thrown herself over a boulder warming in the sun, the heat unbearable at her back and the stone cooking her tender belly. She didn't notice, though she had not cried herself to delirium. Deep in thought, she was letting the sense of abandonment and shame well inside her to be torn asunder by her calm and kind nature. It wasn't right, none of it was right and none of it made sense. Her scarlet eyes closed, her expression akin to one who had lost someone very dear.

Roho was strolling through the grass nearby the boulder Safuma stretched out across, and as his chocolate eyes passed over her, he could instantly see something was turning this young lioness' smile upside down, something drastic. Without thought, though, he angled his direction slightly to approach her with the pure intent to try and help her. He hated to see others unhappy if he thought there was something he could possibly do. What that was in this situation he didn't know... but he'd still try.

He cocked his head to the side, making the strands of his smoothish mane fall free of his eyes, a questioning smile pulling at the corners of his mouth. "Is there anything I can do to make you smile?" he asked, his voice gentle and soft.

The cub's crimson eyes lifted at the voice, scanning the grass briefly until they fell upon the older lion. He was most definitely talking to her, though she hadn't the faintest idea of an answer for him. Safuma had not been this sad once in her young life, and it didn't suit her well to be so sad. What would make her smile? She didn't have a clue, but she'd give plenty to know it.

Shrugging, she managed to slowly lift herself off the rock as if she were many years older, not even giving her tail a gentle flick of greeting. She liked meeting new lions, but she was preoccupied with her thoughts. "I don't know, but I'd like to." She attempted a smile, but it was more of a grimace as her claws kneaded the rock beneath her paws.

He slowly sat, watching the petite femme with his kind brown eyes. Roho would do anything for her to help her smile; he just needed to know what she needed. He didn't think it right for a cub - the definition of 'cub', in his mind, was lively and bouncy and 'happy' - to look so forlorn, and so he would take it upon himself to cheer her up. It was just part of his nature.

He smiled gently at her, quiet for a moment as he thought about it. "Well... why don't you tell me your name, and what your problem is, if you want to, and we'll try to figure out some way to help you smile together." He paused. "Oh, and I'm Roho."

Safuma paused. She didn't know this lion, and she couldn't decide if that was better or worse for her situation. He would be removed from it, with nothing involved, but because of that would he know what to say? Frowning, she hesitated for only a moment longer before giving her name, atleast. "I'm Safuma."

If anyone knew the cub names of Kami and Ta, they would know her problem immediately. She usually didn't consider gossip, however, and eventually came around to telling him slowly, as if she didn't full grasp all the information herself. "I'm oldest, but not heir. Ma and Da decided to name Sarakiva and Akida joint heirs... and passed me over." She pouted at that, hearing it out loud as a fact rather than a musing tale as Nsundu had presented it.

Roho wasn't big on gossip, either; he was out of the loop and happy that way. If anything of dire importance were to happen, he was sure his father or one of his brothers and sisters would tell him of it. The names of the cub heirs were not life or death, and so he did not know who had been chosen, though he'd most definitely heard of Kami and Ta having cubs. That had been unavoidable, it seemed. Roho just smiled at her and nodded. "It's nice to meet you, Safuma."

He listened to her story, politely waiting until after she had finished speaking to voice his suspicions. He wasn't dense - a little stupid, maybe, but this wasn't beyond his grasp - and he'd figured it out pretty much straight away. "You're one of the princesses, aren't you?"

The fact that he didn't know immediately what was going on was a great comfort to her. It meant he'd be completely on the outside of it, with no premade argument for or against her. They could hash it out together and she could feel better making someone else understand the reasoning behind it that she had discovered. She tipped her head gently in a little cub bow, "Nice to meet you, Roho."

Blinking slowly at his question, she looked away though her ears remained positioned on him. Listening to his every movement before she answered, "Yes, I'm one of the Princesses. Kamilika and TaZiyan's cub, one of them." She rolled her eyes, she had an over abundance of siblings, that was for sure, but then again the only cub she saw frequently was Mzuza. The others were all out and about doing their own things.

Roho smiled when Safuma bowed to him, find it charming and sweet. Even more so, since she was a royal, and he just a regular member of the pride, practically no status at all. "Thank you. But, your highness, I believe I should be the one bowing to you." His smile turned quirky as he said this, in an attempt to get even a small smile from her, stretching one paw out in front of him and lowering into a bow, rising again after a moment.

Straightening up, he waited, as if he expected her to add more to that, but when nothing more was forthcoming, he frowned a bit, confused by her actions. It seemed to him that her parents were the problem. That seemed foreign to him; he couldn't imagine thinking that way about his father. "You... don't like being their daughter?"

She looked as if she might smile for a moment, watching him as he spoke and then bowed. She didn't like being called 'your highness' but atleast he didn't speak of it with that lilt that meant she was being made fun of. Her lips curled ever so slightly, but it wasn't enough to be a real smile and she didn't really notice it. She didn't appear haughty, thank goodness (though she wasn't paying attention to how she looked just then), though she appeared slightly blank.

When he asked if she didn't like being their daughter, her eyes widened in alarm that she had made him think that, "Oh! No, no; I do enjoy being their daughter it's just... I have alot of siblings. More important siblings." She frowned at that. She knew she was important, but she was not vital to the existance of the pride, "At least... the pride doesn't need me, not like it needs Sarakiva and Akida."

Roho would have preferred it if Safuma smiled fully, but that little curving of her lips was better than nothing. It was a start, of sorts. It gave him hope that she wasn't entirely beyond smiling at all. Absently, he shook his head, flicking his pale mane out of his eyes as he listened to her words, his tail lazily waving behind him and swishing through the grass.

Sarakiva and Akida... She'd mentioned those two earlier, he believed. Safuma's problem was obviously something to do with those two, but he couldn't see what it was at that moment. "I have a lot of siblings, too. Thirteen, actually. When your family's big and you have a lot of brothers and sisters... you just can't be number one all the time. I can't believe that Sarakiva and Akida are more important than you in your parents' eyes." He paused for a moment, then what she had said earlier came back to him. "Is this about Sarakiva and Akida being the joint heirs? Is that what you said they were?"

Safuma would've shrugged helplessly had he voiced his thoughts of her smiling outloud. She wanted to smile, it just seemed like a far off, unreachable expression for the time being. Her crimson eyes looked out over the savannah for a moment as her claws scratched against the rock beneath her pads, though she found nothing interesting on the horizon and let her gaze roam back to the lion she was speaking with. He was nice, and patient for putting up with her like this. That thought caused a soft smile to pull at the corner of her lips before she turned to answer him.

The number of his siblings made her pause as her eyes widened and she sat up slightly straighter, "Wow! That's alot." She meant it earnestly, having thought her eight siblings being quite a high number. Thirteen, though, was staggering. When he spoke of her siblings, she grimaced and half-heartedly batted at a rock as her gaze dropped. "Yeah. S'bout them being that. Y'see..." She hesitated, mildly concerned that her problem wasn't as big of a deal as her heart was making it feel, "...I'm the oldest."

Triumph! He didn't know what had caused it, but there had been a smile there. Just a little one, but a smile no less. Obviously something was going right in this meeting, and his goal was somewhat achieved. He just had to figure out what was going right, or what he'd done and not realised it that had pleased her, and keep it up. He smiled back at her, gently, and not a wide grin, just a little one to encourage her.

He laughed, because everyone said that when he told them. It had never seemed like much to him, though, because a few of them he had never met. He knew their names, for his father had told him of them, but he'd never seen any face-to-face. But, even so, he had still been in a litter of eight. Only one less than Safuma's litter. "It is a lot, yes, but it never really feels like it to me. My litter was only of eight. The others were in smaller litters before that. I've only really grown up with seven of them."

He slowly nodded. As far as he understood it - which wasn't much, mind you, since he wasn't much interested in the minor intricacies of politics, such as the selection of heirs - the oldest was usually selected. He had thought it was the oldest male, actually, but if Safuma felt she had been slighted because she was oldest in general, then perhaps that wasn't the case. "Well... have you spoken to your mother and father about it?"
