Why Lexana fans have it worse
From the 16th episode of season 5 to the 16th episode of season 6, Lex and Lana have had their ups and downs yet have been able to maintain a pretty healthy relationship compared to others previously shown. Lex was the one who always conforted Lana in times of need and loves her with all of this heart. Week after week, we (L/Lers) hope to see any sign of that same affection from Lana. We waited and it indeed happened. We rejoiced. Their playful dialogue and mundane attitude was a very pleasing relief from the on and off Clana cycle of emotions. Whenever Clark and Lana talked, they were always too serious about everything and were rarely happy. When we saw episodes like Wither and Static, we were to believe that our dream couple had finally formed and though doomed for a tragic end, we could not believe it how the writers played it out for Lex and Lana in Promise.
Then, in a sudden reversal, Lana becomes a coward and a fake. Making Lex believe everything is okay when she is planning on trapping Chloe in the wine cellar to find out Clark's secret. After hearing Clark whine again about how hard it was to let her go (which I haven't seen been done yet), Lana is filled with emotion. Her "love" for him floods back and she decides she's not going to marry Lex. In other words, she doesn't love Lex enough. She lets Clark off the hook for not having the balls to tell her his secret on his own? After all the years of his lying, he's forgiven in an instant? She suddenly forgets how sweet and attentive Lex has been to her? "I thought that loving Lex was enough", she tells Clark, then arranges to meet him in the barn later and kisses him.
The writers could have had Lana honor what she has told Lex in the past, while wanting to help Clark. But they wouldn't even let her do that. They made everything she's said and done with and for Lex from Zod to Subterranean, even Hydro, appear untrue. If memory serves me correctly, after saying she thought that loving Lex was enough, she then said she was lying to herself and that she was in denial (either about loving Lex or not loving Clark). If all it took for her to dump Lex was finding out Clark's secret, then we are left to assume she simply used Lex. She was willing to nullify everything she's shared with Lex just because she finds out Clark's secret and love for her. In the process, she never fully affirms romantic love for Lex.
Lana is a lowly coward. It doesn't even cross Lana's Clark-absorbed mind that Lex deserves to be told about her decision face to face. Instead, she starts writing a letter. He may not be the man she loves, but because he loves her so much, at least honor his love by giving him a face-to-face explanation for her nonsense. Then she is seen crying after the ceremony because she can't be with the one she wants. You weren't crying when you were stripping Lex after the custome ball or pulling his tie wanting him to stay with you another hour. You didn't hesitate to fight for him when he was sucked into another frequency.
With this needless resurrection of Clana, they destroy Lex's character and any respect I had left for Lana.
On a lighter note. I found two pictures where Lex and Lana seem happy. Though, you won't find them in the actual episode.
