Life was great!
The little cub smiled, her blue eyes bright. It was another day, which meant another adventure. There was nothing that could get the perpetually optimistic girl down.
Her tail flicked and she prowled through the grass, pushing right up against the invisible boundary her parents had set for her. Don't go any further than this, they had told her. Unless you're with one of us.
Of course, she obeyed them. Mama and Daddy were so good to her, why wouldn't she do what they asked?
So, Kiasi plopped down on the border, gazing out over the lands. They were so beautiful, and she couldn't wait until she was old enough to go explore them for herself. Until then, she was content to sit here and wait for something interesting to happen.

Still laying on her mud slathered pink belly where the cub she'd met had left her. She didn't know where she was, but she'd been told not to move... she thought. As she remembered it, Mchengo had said she'd send one of her sisters or even herself to come and find her again.
Seeing as Mchengo was the only one that she knew out of all this large land.. Chau was slightly afraid that she would never meet anyone again, truth be told. She hadn't seen any lions since she'd come in and she didn't know that it was only because she was on the border.
Thanks to not being able to think of a single thing that she would have been able to do... Chau started to sing. She didn't have the sterotypical deaf voice that accompanied someone that couldn't hear. Instead her voice was clear and bell-like, drifting over the wind like the chirp of a bird.
As the song finished Chau hung her head, a small tear sliding down her cheek as the cub admitted for a few short moments that she did ineed miss her siblings but most of all her mother. Her mother who had never given her a word of praise and barely a smile while she'd been with her. Chau's heart ached for her mother and as she thought of her, her heart lurched in what seemed like pain.
Brushing her paw at her cheek to rid herself of the tear, the tiny female sighed and settled her chin down on her paws, the strip of fur that she'd tied about her neck strained. It was there because it smelled of the father she'd never met. The scent was long since gone, but the feeling of it gave her at least some comfort as she sat in this land unknown all by herself. ninja

Kiasi's ears perked as she heard the voice. It was pretty, and sounded as though it came from someone about her age, which made it all the better. Mama sang sometimes, so the sound was comforting, even if she knew it wasn't coming from her mother.
"Hello?" she called, blue eyes bright. Maybe whoever it was would play with her. Wasn't that idea grand! But, when there was no reply, the young cub frowned. Were they ignoring her? The thought made her sniffle slightly, but Kiasi was determined to find whoever was singing. After a few moments of listening, she determined the other cub's location - outside of her boundaries.
She hesitated. It wasn't far at all, a few paces outside the invisible line, but she still felt uncomfortable disobeying her parents. For the briefest moment she considered ignoring the other cub, but something was pulling at Kiasi to find her. The voice was too pretty, and surely someone with such a pretty voice would be nice as well! Flicking her tail, she made up her mind. She would find the mysterious cub!
Still, the courage to step outside of the boundaries she had long minded was hard to muster. Kiasi had to try and reassure herself that her parents wouldn't be too terribly upset if she had wandered a little bit. With a deep breath, she set a paw carefully over the nonexistant line, and suddenly, it felt like the whole world was open to her. With a newfound enthusiasm, she hurried towards the voice, the sun reflecting off her black fur.
The light coloured cub came into view and the Pridelander grinned. So, that was the girl who was singing! She sure did look nice, so she stepped forward and offered her brightest smile. "Hi!"

Pastel green eyes lifted up to gaze at the slightly larger black, purple and white furred female before her. The way she stood there shimmering in the sunlight made Chau stare at her in awe for a moment, almost missing what she'd stated.
"O-oh hello." Chau said in her gentle voice, standing on her wobbly, exhausted legs and giving the other female a bow of respect as she'd been taught, the tiny cub lifted her head once more and smiled. "It's nice to meet another my age."
It really was, even Mchengo had been older than she and Chau hadn't seen another her age aside from her siblings just yet. The thought sent her head spinning and a gentle pat on her back from Hang made her glance over her shoulder and smile at the large salmon striped female who was grinning mischeviously.
Rolling her eyes at her friend before turning her head bak to the other, she let a bright smile spread over her muzzle. She was still slightly in awe of the other's glow, but she managed to get past it long enough to flop back down when her stomach gave a rather... embarrassing rumble.
"S-sorry... about that." Chau said shakily, a blush tinging her see-through white fur for a moment so that it was as pink as her pink colored paws and belly were supposed to be had she not covered them in black mud. ninja

With a friendly smile, Kiasi shrugged the stomach growling off. "My name is Kiasiadia," she said brightly. "But I go by Kiasi, because Kiasiadia is kind of long. What's your name?"
After thinking for a moment, she added, "If you're hungry, I could catch you something to eat! Mama taught me how to hunt little things like mice. Say, where are you from? I've never seen you around before! Hey, want to be friends? I bet we could be best friends!"
Her mouth never seemed to stop, and if she had any idea of how much she talked, she would've sheepishly hoped she wasn't being annoying. Alas, Kiasi was blissfully ignorant, and would only get it if Chau started acting irritated.

Blinking at how fast the other spoke, Chau focused her eyes completely on her muzzle so that she didn't rudely miss anything that was said, and it was only after she was finished that the tiny female even allowed herself to answer her. At least she prayed that she wasn't being rude by answering now.
"I'm Chau, it's nice to meet you Kiasi. I like your long name, it's cool." Stopping for a moment, Chau thought over all her words in her head before answering the others. "I haven't eaten in days, I can help you hunt the best I can if you want? Then we can both eat. I'm from the Oasis a long way off, I travled here after my family split up."
She froze for a moment as she thought of her family once more, looking down at her mud covered paws silently for a second as thoughts ran through her ragged brain. Her pastel eyes shimmered after a moment and she lifted her head once more to the other.
"I'd love to be friends with you! Mom said that friends are lots of fun, but I've never had one before." Her laugh was sheepish as she admitted it. "I never met any cubs my age aside from my mean older sisters." ninja

"Chau? I like that name too!" Her words seemed to slow down a bit now that she had gotten everything out. "It's pretty. Oh, you don't have to help! If we're going to be friends, then I want to do something nice. Even if we weren't friends, I'd want to be nice!" She smiled, her innocence shining through.
But, when she mentioned mean sisters, the smile turned to a frown. "Oh, that's too bad," she said sadly. "I have four sisters and one brother, and they're all nice! My brother Sukari is my favourite though. Oh!" She squeaked, her eyes widening. "Don't tell anyone I said that, please! Mama and Daddy say it's not nice to play favourites. I love all my sisters, too, really!"
She brightened again, cheered by the fact they were friends now. Suddenly her mind reminded her that she was outside of her boundaries. "Will you come with me?" she asked, tilting her head. "I'm not supposed to be this far out, but I wanted to find out who was singing. You have a pretty voice, by the way! Anyway, it's only a little bit that way." Kiasi flicked her tail. "And then we can find something to eat!"
The cub was still talking a lot, but at least she had slowed down.

A gentle grin crossed Chau's white muzzle and she nodded her head brightly. "I won't tell anyone, don't worry. You're really lucky you have such a big family! I had a big one too but I've never heard of a 'brother' before."
The little white female had never even seen a 'male' before, though the word settled unhappily in her stomach and she hid it. Maybe she didn't like it or maybe it was just a weird sensation, she didn't quite know. In fact, maybe she were over reacting, she'd never met any males before.
"I do? I've never heard my own voice before." Chau mused slightly, amused that someone thought it was pretty when all of her sister had told her it was horrible. "Sure, Mchengo said that it was nice inside the boundaries, that everyone was really nice and all."
Getting up and following after her on her tiny paws, Chau mused for a moment over asking if she could stay with this other female for a while. She seemed nice and there was something about her that drew Chau in and made her smile brightly, though what that was she couldn't hazard to guess. ninja

Kiasi looked a bit surprised at Chau. "A brother is like a sister, except a brother is a boy!" she said with a grin. "Although Sukari acts kind of like a girl. Maybe it's because he's the only boy in the family, besides Daddy!"
She smiled but looked surprised once again. "You've never heard your own voice? That's funny! I hear my voice all the time." The cub didn't quite see the irony in that. "Ohhhh, everyone IS nice! I love the Pridelands! I haven't met a single mean lion. I don't think I'll ever leave."
Flicking her tail, she rose to her paws too, noticing for the first time her new friend's size. A slight smile crept across her lips. Kiasi herself was fairly small, and so it was nice to finally be bigger than somebody. Not that size mattered, of course. She couldn't have cared if Chau was an elephant!
"I'll show you my favourite spot!" she squeaked happily, bounding away towards a vast field of flowers.

"Really? My daddy was never around, mom was sad all the time." Chau frowned at that, maybe that was why, but then it wouldn't really explain her need to have the choker of fur around the base of her neck would it? That was what kept her close to her father after all. "Well maybe your brother and dad are lots better than my dad was!"
Trotting after the other, Chau kept flicking her eyes back and forth between where they were going and Kiasi so that she could see if Kiasi was talking at all.
"Oh you can? My sisters used to tell my my voice is ugly so I used to be happy I couldn't hear it. I wonder what it sounds like?" She mused for a moment and fluffed herself up like a tiny owl, fur standing on end as she turned into a giant walking cotton ball.
Bounding to keep up with Kiasi happily, Chau felt her legs try to give out on her as her fur slicked back down, making it so she could keep up with the other's longer strides. A field of flowers? That sounded good as long as none of them had that hideous pink color that some of them she'd seen had. For some reason that color made her vision go red and she didn't quite know why. ninja

"Daddy and Sukari are always around!" she said happily. "Daddy is a good daddy and Sukari is my best friend. Well, he was, because maybe now we'll be best friends!"
The young cub couldn't comprehend the fact that Chau's father was never around. She knew little of death and had always been taught that cubs were raised by their parents.
"That's so mean!" Kiasi said with a little pout. "I can't believe your sister would do that. Ick, I'm so glad my sisters are nice. You should come meet them sometime! And Sukari, and Mommy, and Daddy... you should meet everyone! Hey, maybe you can live with us! Wouldn't that be fun?"
As they rose over the hill, an expanse of land beneath them appeared, covered with thousands of white flowers and yellow flowers. Butterflies fluttered around and Kiasi smiled. This place was the heart of the Pridelands to her. "We're here!" she announced happily.
