Every day, it feels like drivers these days are less and less qualified. It pisses me off to no end to be nearly rear ended, ran into, or to be stuck going 40 on the freeway because some old fart is too proud to give up their license.

I'm just going to outline the biggest issues I notice... Feel free to add anything else that's not listed.

If you are behind the wheel, you need to be driving. Put down the food. Put away the makeup. Hang up the ******** phone, and don't even think about texting. Turn down the radio if need be. When you are in control of a vehicle, you need to be paying attention to the road and the drivers around you. When you don't, you are a hazard. If everyone just drove, we'd all get where we're going a hell of a lot sooner.

The turn signal is not a decoration. I cannot even begin to count the number of times I have seen people drift between lanes or cruise through a turn without using their blinker. Using it shows that you are competent enough to warn other drivers what you are about to do. Don't flick it on for a second and think it's fine to go. Turn it on a little bit before you know you need to move, and other drivers can yield to it. Which brings me to my next point.

If you see someone with their turn signal on, yield accordingly. Provided, there are many instances where it's just a long line of traffic trying to squeeze their way into a merging lane, where I am even very reluctant to let more than one person in. However, if there's someone trying to move over, especially on the freeway, just speed up or slow down; give some space. Don't be the absolute douchebag who drives on par and doesn't let them in, causing them to miss their exit.

It's okay to go above the speed limit. If the speed limit is 35 but everyone around you is going 45, go 45. Don't think you're such a great driver for adhering to posted signs. When you go slower than everyone else, you are a hazard. So, either turn on your hazard lights or speed the ******** up.

When you are too old to drive, you're too old to drive. Really doesn't apply to anyone in the guild, but I'm hoping this will get passed on. Too often am I stuck behind what appears to be a corpse driving. When you are so old that you can scarcely see above the wheel, you don't have proper reaction time, or you position yourself like a retard just so you can drive, YOU NEED TO GIVE UP THE KEYS.

Be aware of weather conditions. If it's clear, drive as such. If it's raining, you can usually get away with driving regularly. The times you need to be immensely careful is when there's a light sprinkling of rain because this is when all the oils and s**t on the roadway rise to the surface; a decent rain washes all this away, so don't be freaking out and go 20mph in a downpour. Also, obviously, slow it down when there are high winds, heavy snow or hail, or ice coating the road.

Pay attention to speed limit signs. Just because it's a residential area doesn't automatically mean that it's 25. Many a time, especially in Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace, it's upwards of 35.

Second Substitute Senate Bill 5037 is a bill currently in Olympia. If passed this bill will make it illegal for driver's to talk on their cellphone and drive. You won't be able to be pulled over to just for that, the officer must have another reason and the ticket for driving while on your cellphone will be $101.

Yeah, we live up near Brier. We actually got pulled over for having one headlight out. WHO gets pulled over for that? And he left the lights going while having pulled us over. Talk about overkill.
