I do a lot more buying then selling on the market place and there is one thing that bothers me. I was wondering if any one here could help me learn how to deal with this as a buyer.
I will wind up with a bidding war with some one over a letter or other rare item, and two minutes to the end of sale the item, which had no buy it now is no longer on the market place, then is suddanly back in the sellers shop, for multiple K less then my last bid with only 15 minutes remaining, gets to 2 minutes again and the seller cancles the bid again. This drives me up a wall.
When I sell I keep this in mind and my minimum bid is the minimum I will accept. Then no one ever bids on my letters. How do I sell my letters without ridding the cancle sale button, and how do I buy letters that have no buy it now, without fearing the sale will be cancled at the last few minutes?
Any advice? heart

This irks me too - I would have snagged a Winter Rose for 6k if the seller hadn't canceled the sale.
I've never sold something super-expensive, but if I did, I would set the price close to the lowest selling price so that I can still make a good profit without ruining the MP price of the item.

I've also nearly snagged some good deals that way as well. It annoys me. I understand if they don't want to sell a Gbot for 2k, but then the starting bid shouldn't be set at 1 gold... crying heart stressed

I've actually set a couple of G-bots to open bids without a minimum bid, and made 1.5-2k profits from those...
That aside, there are certain users who consistantly cancell bids if the bids aren't high enough, one of which comes to mind is [ - Naruto - ]. There are others, but I can't remember them all.
Here are a few things I've found. If they're trying to sell many items within 4 minutes, then that is a sign they might cancel the sale. They probably monitor their sales closely. A not-as-reliable-but-helpful sign is if their bid history is under 4 minutes or any other time under 15 minutes - I think they choose that option so they can watch people bid, and don't have the patience to wait out marketplace fluctuations to sell at higher prices.

~¤~ Hum, I actually the type of people that do cancel sells often.
It's more like I set a buy now price that is reasonnable and very close to the lowest price in the marketplace, but I leave the bid option on because there always are some people who would offer a ridicilous amount of money for the item but at least keep it up on the first page.
Most of the time people use the buy it now option so I have no probleme with it, but sometimes, it looks like no one's interested and the bid is not high enough so that I can make some profit on the sell, so I have to cancel it. Though when the bid is close enough I would let it end...
I'm the type that would always buy things using the buy now option so... I don't think about the fact that I might annoy the bidders. But still I can't sell something for a cheaper price than what I bought it, can I... ~¤~

There's a seller: SilverScepter or something like that who runs short auctions on letters. He starts at zero and cancels if the bids are too low. While I understand that someone just learning the marketplace may find themselves in a position once in a while where they messed up and must save their butts, this kind of cancelling is chronic and annoying.
But, being me, I almost always play the game when I see his stuff, expecting that he'll cancel, but hoping some unforeseen circumstance will let me snipe something every once in a while. INSTEAD, I fall prey to part 2 of his technique.
He usually sells four letters - three of one kind (usually the most recent) and then one from a previous month which isn't worth nearly as much. In your bidding frenzy, it's easy to end up bidding too much on the oddball letter. In those cases, he hasn't cancelled, obviously. And I've "won" a few of those. stressed

I'v noticed people doing this as well, I assume its a tacktic to get people to miss bid and make a prophit, otherwise it wouldnt be worth their time. usulay if I knotice people doing this, I just dont buy from them. Sometimes people will even admit it in their shop info that they will cancle bids if they don't like them. sweatdrop

Bids that start at 1 or 2 gold get more attention than any other bids out there and buyers like to sort them from the lowest to the highest price so they show in the first page. Not only that if you set the amount of time to some days you will get reasonable offers but to sell an item fast people like to sell items and setting the time in 10 minutes. When a seller doesn't get the bid desired he cancels the sale and waits for the price to go up or down considering if the item has been low or high in the market. Buyers get annoyed because they think they are getting a good deal but the seller is not getting enough profit which makes him cancel most of the times.

I know of that problem and it drives me mad sometimes. I myself only cancel if by change I made a mistake in my sale preferences. I sometimes forget to set on buy only or something.

Your supposed to set it low on purpose.. It makes the item look more appealing.. The point is to get a lot of bids, that way the item gets bumbed up, but it's not meant to sell for the beid price.. It's only to make the buy price look better.. I've never once heard of a person who lets their bids expire for shitty amounts of gold.. I don't see how this irks you.. rolleyes

It really does annoy me. I've invested my time, I choose his or her item to bid on over everyone else's in the MP. I could have bid that same gold on a letter some one else was selling who might NOT cancel it, but instead some one got that letter that didn't get canceled for less then I would have spent, where as all I got was a waist of time. It is frustrating and annoying to me as a buyer. I wish Gaia had a way to limit how often a seller can cancel a sale each day. I understand the need to cancel if you make an honest mistake. I one time sold a letter for a buy it now of 10K (I meant 100K and mistyped!). So I do understand mistakes. However I feel cheated by people who constantly put the same items up over and over and cancel when they don't like the price. If they have a minimum they will accept then it needs to be the minimum price for bidding, or they should say it in their store description. Otherwise I feel like I am waisting my time and should quit the market place all together. Ultimately, we log onto Gaia for fun. This is not fun, being jerked about, but rather it is frustrating on a leave on par with a number of RL issues I have. If I want to deal with that much stress, I could sign off. stressed heart stressed

I've only cancelled a sale on an auction I believe... Once. I don't particularly care for auctioning my items, I find it easier and faster to just sell them.
The first time I auctioned was the last time, it didn't work out nearly as well as I would have hoped and I would have totally been ripped off. And I would have had no one to blame but myself. xD Other than that I really have no experience with auctions. u_u

And I feed on misprices, it's how venders make gold.. Isn't that what this guild is about?.. I feel like I'm explaining Vending.. xD.. Besides, and I'm not trying to be an a**, this'll help you out.. When Bidding, 2 rules: 1. Never bid on an item that has more than 4-6 minutes remaining on it 2. never bid all/ enough gold to disable you from vending.. A good policy is to only bid about 1/4 of your gold at a time so that if a good misprice does come up, you hopefully have enough to grab it..

You raise a good topic. Lotsa people are SO greedy in the marketplace, it's a wonder anyone has any business there at all. If every canceled a sale when it wasn't as high as they want (which sometimes is ridiculously high), there would be no exchanging of gold in the marketplace at all.
I always start my bids at zero. If something is really worth a lot, then people will bid accordingly. Sure, I never get like a billion gold like the other people are asking for (but probably not getting), but hey, it's something! And people keep coming back to my shop because they know I sell cheap.
I started my bids of my envelops at zero and they got up to 12K... so I would say starting bids lower encourages more sales.

Plus, might I add that bids skyrocket in the last 2 minutes that a bid is up. I thought at item of mine was gonna go for really cheap, but I let it be and then I got a note saying it sold for about 5K more. Sweet.
