Do you think that it's smart to use so many nonrenewable resources for energy? I think we shouldn't,because we can use too many and then there would be no more. What sources of energy do you think would be better instead of fossil fuels?

A perfected nuclear energy. We haven't even used a percent of our acessible supply. If we could just learn to use it safely, it would be perfect.

Yea good point. It would be a good source, but it has it's problems.

So does every source of energy, but we learned how to use it right? This energy however is different. Much more powerful, and with the correct use, it would not hold such a powerful demise for us.

Right all energy has its problems. Wind energy needs many windmills to make electricity, making us have to clear land for it. Hydroelectric recuires us to build dams, messing up water ecosystems. Nuclear if not used correcting could cause major damage to land, animals, and people around it. Then natural resources are giving off carbon dioxide heating up the atmosphere and causing global warming.

Ahhhh, the peaceful world we live in. Makes you wonder why we do the things we do...all on the sake of laziness...makes ya feel sick.

we don't have much natural resources left do we?
PostPosted: Sat Apr 21, 2007 12:29 am

We do, but that doesn't mean that they'll last us forever. Also, it's always good to try and find things that are more effective or beneficial to use. It's one of those things that just happen. When we have something, we tend to look for something better.

I notice that solar power was not mentioned. Now what, may I ask, is the problem with that? Oh, solar cells are expensive to produce. If our governments would subsidise their production they way they have coal, oil, and now biofuels, they wouldn't be as expensive. The sun is a constant. You wouldn't have to worry about running lines all over the place, as buildings could produce their energy independently. You don't have emissions.

The only downfall is that it needs the sun. Which, in certain extremities of the world (I'm talking about the polar regions, for those of you who are geographically impaired) is quite sparse during the winter months. But do you want to know what else is found in the polar regions? Hydrogen. Lots of hydrogen. Again, no emissions, and the fact that it's explosive... well, it's no more dangerous than the petrol that we use to run our cars. You've heard the stories about what happens when petrol stations explode. Not pretty.

There ARE alternate, nonextinguishable fuel sources out there. Our governments are just too cheap to pay for their startup costs.

Certain types of hydroelectric power sources don't disrupt water flow, such as tidal and wave power and partial dams.

I personally think that Solar power is the way to go. It is the most abundant power source there is. The reason people have not done it is because you only retain something like 45% of the power coming through solar panels. This is an idiotic excuse. I have seen plans that were proposed years ago that would have been providing 100% of the energy currently being used by the US IF they had been installed when proposed. With solar panels becoming more advanced, it seems to me that not using them for our power is just sheer stupidity.
I also suspect that one of the major problems is large companies. The government revolves around the support of large companies, and large companies only care about making money.

I agree with Krego, solar power does seem to be the way to go, the sun is always there, so why not make use of it instead of tearing at limited resources we don't really have any longer?

Yeah governments cant function without money and things that are expensive or not wanted by the companies supporting the governments get over looked by said governments
