The textile industry has been an important one in the Carolinas for a long time, and at least two of us here are currently working in it, so I thought I'd open a topic about it. Anyone who wants to talk about the Textile industry is welcome to post here.

It's about one more month until Culp Weaving in Graham closes its doors. They put the other four people who worked on the second floor on 2nd shift on the permanent layoff Thursday; they were all Draw Crimp. Now I'm all alone up there. sad Down in the Weave Room, they are moving out looms--38 are slated to go up to the Tietex plant near Reidsville, & 10 have just left. They want some loom workers to go there but hardly anybody wants to drive the extra 20 miles up there to work, & the word is Tietex works you more jobs for less pay & benefits, & they are bad to work people just a few months & then lay them off. Anyone who went there & had that done to them would lose their plant closing benefits. Don't know if the rumors are true or not. They still aren't saying what will happen to my machine. I don't think they want it at Tietex. I'd like to know if they want to sell it or move it down to their mills in SC, though. I might be willing to follow it.

I keep all my Our States. They're too cool to get rid of. If you go to the library I'm sure they'll have it even if it's tucked back in a cabinet now.

Cast out them evil demons from your machine! twisted burning_eyes Failing that, a baseball bat, lead pipe or sledgehammer will work nicely. xd (I actually have a couple of lead pipes at my work area--service guys use 'em to lift the loom beams onto carts. Also 3 nice, fierce beam wrenches. Nobody better mess with me! I'm all set up to be the Warper Ninja! ninja )

we had one machine that was kida messed up by a warper tender they beamed the warp off and somehow got the bands crossed so everytime you fix it on the loom the ends cross over and stick to them self rofl ........ well i do have some fixing know how but try not to show it cause if i do then they expect it rofl rofl rofl our looms are computer controled im the only weaver that carries a tech card although i was told by a fixe that only FIXERS were supposed to have them lol lol lol but ofcourse theres noting to fix a machine better than a well placed love tap rofl rofl rofl and if all else fails flag it and wait cool

Wait for a mechanic? rolleyes His smokes are usually more important, no matter what factory you work in or the industry! When I was on 3rd if a machine broke down you called the shop & Jimmy Ray was the mechanic. He'd make you wait good for daring to drag him upstairs & then gripe & holler the whole time he was working on your machine. gonk one time he let a warper set for 2 hrs. before he came. Our supervisor was MAD! twisted

They seem to do a good job of hiding, though. They shouldn't get away with that! They make plenty good money & should do their job! :X

My machine behaved itself today, thank heavens. sweatdrop Tomorrow I have to go in an hour early to attend a meeting about info on that TAA program thingy. Not sure what it is yet. Something about going to school while on unemployment after the permanent layoff? I'll find out tomorrow.
