The hatching has taken place and now Rias Weyr has several new dragons and riders to teach and train. For now though, let the night be full of festivities! The dining hall is adorned with food and decorations and ready for people of all kinds to join in the fun and welcome the new ranks to Rias Weyr.

The hatching had done wonders to lift his spirits, and J'riar could still feel himself grinning. It had gone well, this hatching, and now there were plenty of new weyrlings who had been paired off with the newborn dragonets. The lanky man, still a weyrling himself, strode into the dining hall, fully planning on taking part of the gathering. Tossing his head lazily to send dusky locks of dark hair out of his face, J'riar pulled up a seat, unconsciously reaching out to speak to his beloved. Brings back memories, doesn't it? His hazel eyes had slipped out of focus as he spoke to his blue, a grin still tugging at his lips.

I remember, mine. Natroth's tone was tinged with drowsy affection, and J'riar was certain he was up on the ledges, sunning himself. It was not so long ago that I had found you. The young man chuckled a little, helping himself to a mug of steaming klah. It seared his throat as it went down, and the bluerider offered a little, rasping cough, too focused on his conversation with Natroth to really mind.

You used to be such a nuisance--you remember that? Always tripping over yourself... J'riar teased fondly, knowing that Natroth could hear right through the fake grumbles to the undying affection that would never cease.

Ah. Yes. And how you would always fall in the Lake when you thought I wasn't watching.

The weyrling snorted good-naturedly, rolling his eyes before hiding a grin behind another sip of klah. Horrible beastie. With another wisp of affection, J'riar focused on grabbing himself an apple, his eyes flickering mildly to observe the rest. Wouldn't hurt to go chat with them, eh?

After the hatching, Law'r had been very loathe to leave Maranth's side, after making sure the hatchling was fed and watered and not wanting for anything, he reluctantly went off to get changed. He had changed out of the uncomfortable impressing robes and back into his usual, nicely tailored garb, tying his long hair back, out of his face, grinning all the while like an idiot, still afloat on nerves and giddiness he hoped would never pass. It all felt like a dream.

"Maranth is not a dream." came a reproachful voice. Apparently the dragonet had woken. He laughed aloud at the blunt statement, forgetting that no one else but him could hear the hatchling's comment. Slinging a dress cloak over his shoulder he headed down to the gathering where the others were set to celebrate. "No but Maranth should be dreaming. Get some rest. I will be here still when you wake." he said with a grin before sitting himself down. Maybe his dragonet was just as clingy as he was?, the thought made him smile all the wider.

He sat himself down at one of the tables, helping himself to one of items of food laid out and nibbling on it tenatively, even though he wasn't hungry, his stomach too aflutter to notice. He eyed the others arriving and milling around but hadn't the foggiest idea what to say, how to introduce himself, where to begin. He almost spoke out to the dragonet again but did not. Sleep was what mattered for little Maranth at the moment, he'd be strong in the meantime.

The hatching had gone wonderfully and the Weyrwoman was quite pleased with how things had unfurled. Nothing had gone wrong and now there were many new Weyrlings to join the ranks. "All the young ones were strong love." Ephia said as she walked out of her bathing room now fully cleansed. Her hair had been tied up in a knot to keep it from getting wet as she bathed.

And that wasn't to be expected? Ariath said sarcasticly as she peered into Ephia's chamber.

The Weyrwoman laughed as she pulled out the dress she had made for the gathering. "You know what I ment and don't try to act like you didn't." She phold the dress out in front of her as she studied it before pulling it on carefully over her head. Like many of her other gowns, this one had been made to sit just off her shoulders but it had a more V line structure to it than the usual scoop. The blue material was striking and could rival even the bluest of hides that drgaons sported.

I wasn't acting. Ariath pointed out. But they all were quite healthy. An air of pride swept over the young queen and Ephia shook her head.

"Yes dearheart they were. And nothing else should have been expected. As much as I don't appreciat M'xan I must admit that his Enelth is strong so it's only natural that he helped produce good offspring." As she spoke she untied her hair and let the dark tresses fall around her face. She ran her fingers through the mass of hair before pushing it back over her shoulders. Ephia grabbed her slippers that had been made for the dress and slipped them onto her feet. "We had better get down to the gathering. I am sure the festivities won't stay inside for long. People usually mingle out into the Weyrbowl once their stomachs are appeased." She smiled as she walked towards Ariath. The queen lowered herself so that Ephia could get on without much trouble. Gowns weren't the best of flying attire though but Ariath had gotten quite use to helping Ephia when it came ot such attire and Flying. Ariath landed in the Bowl and Ephia hopped down from her queen. After on final ridge scratch, the Weyrwoman walked inside to the gatherings where people were slowly starting to appear.

X'las had not needed to take much time in getting ready for the gathering. In fact a quick change of clothes was about all the brownrider needed before joining the festivities. Gurath was already outside with the other dragons enjoying their own festivities and chit-chat while their riders enjoyed they're own. Of course the gatherings never stayed seperated for long. Eventually riders would mingle off outside before maybe pairing off and dissapearing for the night.

X'lias was a short boy and quite young at that. He had been the youngest to impress at the last hatching and still was the youngest even out of the new Weyrlings. It was slightly depressing, especially since he knew he'd be stuck helping Farin while his other Weyrling mates were promoted.

Why do you worry about that mine? Gurath asked from his ledge outside.

I don't know. I guess I am just not fond of being the youngest. I mean, wouldn't you like to go out and start fighting Thread as soon as we could? While everyone else is promoted to full rank we'll be stuck filling firestone bags and making deliveries.

There's nothing that can be done about that. We can't be promoted until you reach of age. It won't be much longer. Besides, will helping Moth's rider be all that bad?

X'lias sighed. I guess not. I'd just rather be doing something more...interesting.

Gurath let the conversation at that and X'lias sifted through the crowds to the food that had been set up. Grabbing a meatroll, the young brownrider sat himself at a table and began munching on it while he looked around the dining hall for any familiar faces or the new Weyrlings. /Might as well introduce myself now to them/, he mused.

Layn sighed excitedly shifting her visage into a mask of sheer bliss, but apart of her did not feel right. Her large almond eyes danced across the room searching for someone that was familiar, all the faces seemed to blurr together, and she was unsure who exactly she searched for. There wasa dragonrider, somewhere here, she was sure, that shared her features, shared her soft pale skin...but she couldn't see him, and that frightened her. She was sure the moment she impressed her Ireth that he would have greeted her and explained everything...but there was no one coming.

She could almost feel Ireth as she slept and reached out mentally to touch her bonded and was instantly comforted with the feeling of her sleeping lifemate. Sleep tight, we've got a world ahead of us.

She was sitting with her elbows on the table with her hands beneath her chin, quite close to one of the other candidates that had impressed that night, "Can you believe it?" She looked at the older candidate, trying to bring to mind his name and failing, "You impressed a blue..?" she questioned Law'r.

Laughter broke through J'riar's absent-minded thoughts, and the weyrling, propping one hand underneath his chin, glanced to what had to be one of the newly Impressed. He looked lost, and the bluerider openly grinned at the sight. Ahh, yes. Memories. Pushing himself out of his chair, the lanky bluerider all but sauntered over, plopping himself next to the boy, despite the fact that he'd been joined by a young woman as well. "Congratulations, both of you." J'riar grinned a little, hazel eyes flicking softly over their faces. "A blue and a green, mm?"

Good. Natroth approved. You remembered.

Resisting the urge to retort, J'riar merely held out a well-calloused hand, feeling like his good mood was practically infectious. "J'riar, rider of blue Natroth." His other hand waved almost dismissively. "Little hard to take it all in, isn't it?" Flicking locks of hair out of his face, the bluerider took the time to study them both, bemused to remember that he had once been in their position.

Janista was paying more attention to Lazulth's needs than she had anything else in her life. She was still in shock over being a dragonrider; she had been expecting to be left on the sands again, and now...she had Lazulth, who was the first boy she had ever truly loved.

You're not leaving me, are you? the light blue hatchling asked as she quickly changed out of those silly candidate robes. She wouldn't be needing them anymore!

"Of course not," Janista said as she put on her best clothing...which was still respectively baggy and comfortable. "I'm just going outside to meet the others, so we can make friends."

Friends?

"People who like us."

I like us, Lazulth said. I hope others do too.

"I'm sure they will," Janista said. "Now get some sleep, silly boy! We aren't going to make friends if you're cranky."

Lazulth spoke no more, seemingly trying to obey his rider. Then again, with all that breaking out of his shell and eating enough to deplete a small herd, Janista knew that her bond had to be tired. She, however, was extremely hungry. It was probably mostly due to feeling Lazulth's hunger, but she didn't want to ignore the call of a feast in her honor. Bluerider Janista...how proud her father must be!

M'haal had been, metaphorically caught between the werries and a cliff face. On one hand, he could stay by Toranth while his dearheart slept and miss the gathering. On the other was going to the celebrations and spending time away from the bronze. It took gentle proddings from the hatchling to get him to decide on the latter.

Dressed in the finest he had - which was in fact not so grand - the weyrling joined the rest. Barely self concious of his almost plain green tunic and with his accursed curling hair pulled back, he reminded himself of the bronze as he strolled into the celebrations. Unlike on the sands, he was completely at ease with that vague, friendly smile on his face.

He sought out the others who had Impressed, hoping to avoid anyone from his home-hold lest them make a fuss over him. It was inevitable, but he wanted to give it a miss for as long as he could.

Law'r blinked and looked over in surprise as Layn sat down next to him. Hey, apparently meeting new people wasn't that hard when they took the perogative. He smiled and shook his head. "Nope. Still trying to convince myself I'm awake." he laughed. "But yes, a blue, Maranth." He tried to recall the haze of the hatching and managed to recall the airy green female he'd spotted and familiarity of the girl's features. "A green?"

He didn't get to hear her response however as the elder dragonrider joined the pair and offered his congratulations. He took the proferred hand gratefully, giving it a shaky but enthusiastic shake. "Pleasure to meet you." he said. "I'm Lawrence.." he shook his head "I mean..Law'r, sir. Maranth is my bonded." Laughing he added "I'm going to need to remember that new name."

She nodded and mentally noted he was suprised she approached him, his blue was a very unique looking dragon, "I'm Layn yes a gr-" she stopped answering as J'riar approached and introduced himself, as well as his dragon. "I am Layn, my bonded is Green Ireth.." she faltered slightly, allowing the concern to seep through into her expresion, "It's different, but of course you know, you were in our shoes."

She nodded to both of them and popped a meatroll into her mouth daintily. She was used to attracting other's attention with her body, not by being a rider. How different her life will be.

"Will it be so different, and amazing always?" She asked vaguely.

A grin broke out over his tanned face, followed quickly by a chuckle. "Takes some getting used to, don't worry about it." Mentally, he made note of both rider and dragon, remembering that Maranth had been the remarkably spotted blue. Of course, he was biased--Natroth would always be his favorite. Layn caught his attention, and the bluerider grinned. "Not too long ago, aye. It's a big change, but it was the best thing that had ever happened to me."

"At first, everything'll be like a blur." J'riar nodded thoughtfully, lost in his own memories as he took another healthy bite out of his apple. "You'll get used to it after a while though. Things become almost routine--but shards, I'm still learning new things after all this time..." A sly grin was offered to the pair, "...Then again, I've always been a bit slow."

X'lias caught sight of the riders sitting at the other end of the table. They were the new Weyrlings from what he could tell. The older man was certainly one of them. It was funny. He, X'lias was at the lowest tier of the impressing age while this man who had just impressed was at the highest.

You said you wanted to meet the new Weyrlings, so go meet them and stop stalling. Gurath said to his bonded in earnst.

Alright, alright. Don't get your tail in a twist. The Thirteen year old got up from his spot at the other end of the table and walked down to the gathered Weyrlings. It was odd, thinking of them as under him ranking wise considering they were so much older. That was something he'd have to get over eventually if he was to help Farin with teaching them.

X'lias smiled as he reached the group and looked to J'riar. "I see you beat me to the new riders." He chuckled before looking to the others. "Hello. You're all the new Weyrlings, right? I'am X'lias rider of Brown Gurath."

Hanging back a moment to consider introduction himself, the ex-herder listened to the others. He'd meandered over casually, coming for the food and stopping because he recognised the other candidates from the sands... No, the new dragonriders, candidates no longer.

"Hullo. I'm M'shaal...bonded to bronze Toranth." After X'lias, he stepped forward, hoping he'd introduced himself and his dragon right. He couldn't be Mishaal any longer for that was harder to shout during Threadfall. You usually gave your drongs colour. Hmm. Should be fine.

It wasn't until after she had run most of the way to the gathering that she realized something was odd...her hair was still neater than normal. After she quickly ran her fingers through to give her hair its proper messy look, she continued running the rest of the way. She only stopped when she saw the robed form of the Weyrwoman in front of her, and her "stopped" was a skid and a narrow miss.

"I'm sorry," she said with a polite bow. "I didn't mean to...I was just trying to get rid of some nervous energy, and the food smelled so good! Congratulations on the great Hatching...of course, a Hatching with my blue Lazulth in it is great by default for me." She wasn't used to speaking to someone of high rank, and it was triggering an unusual babbling spree.

Law'r tried to make note and remember J'riar, his dragon Natroth Layn and her dragon Ireth's names. He was terrible at that sort of thing and really really didn't want to offend next time he met any of them. Early impressions were everything he thought with some amusement. They certainly had been for him and Maranth. It was relaxing to have a more experienced rider there to talk to, especially one who had impressed the same colour that he himself had. It gave Law'r leave to come out of his shell a bit more and to ask the odd question here and there.

"I can't even imagine all this becoming routine, after the harper hall, it's like chalk and cheese." he wondered what his friends back at the hold would think now. What would he even say to them?

Another voice piped into the conversation and Law'r glanced over to it's source, a boy, even though that term felt ill fitting to an individual as composed looking as X'lias looked to him. Once again he felt somewhat concious of his age, he had scraped past and no more, age wise, he felt. Strange that Maranth had picked him out of the candidates with more to learn and more potential.

He introduced himself again for X'lias' benefit before tucking in to one of the other apples on the table, figuring that if Maranth had needed some food after the stress of the hatching, he might as well have something too.

It was as good an excuse as any.
