It'd been several days sense Narcissus had seen anyone. Keone was most likely off with his family. He was also sure his mother was back at the tree still sulking he'd left her early that morning, hoping she was sleeping or atleast getting some rest. He hated to see her like that.
He ventured towards the outskirts of the Jungle. He wasn't going to leave it but he thought it might be interesting to see what was there. He could always Hop into a tree if anyone dangerous came along.
The leopon crept along playing with flowers or small sapplings boredly. "I wish my sisters were here. They'd have all sorts of fun tormenting me..." He sighed wistfully wishing they were here and he could act all prim and poper and say he was the cutest and hear them fight about it. He missed them and didn't see a need to keep the act up as much. He still groomed and was overly cleaned but he didn't mind getting a bit of mud on him now and then. Now espically he saw a puddle adn there was a frog. "OH FROGGY!" He ran and jumped after it splashing mud onto his coat as he looked at it and frowned. "Oh well..."

Mfuto strolled alongside the river, headed towards the jungle. He wasn't going in, he refused to go into the deep of the jungle without his friends; ever since he'd known Uten, they'd been planning on going to the jungle together, and he'd wait for Uten to finally go. Still, he needed to get away from the gang a little bit for once. Things were... different since Alana moved in, and Heu had been born. It wasn't Alana's fault, per se. Mfuto liked Alana, and he loved Heu... she was sweet, and an excellent playmate. But something about Uten had changed since they'd all been reunited, and especially since Heu had been born. He seemed... sadder. Mfuto just didn't understand. Uten had all his friends together, and he had a daughter. They were all like one big family. Uten ought to be happy! But he wasn't... not quite. Mfuto could see. He usually wasn't very good at interpreting these things, but he could see.
They'd settled by the river for some time, at least until Heu was old enough to travel with them. In the time that they'd been there, Mfuto had blossomed into a handsome young adolescent. Unfortunately, mentally, he was still essentially in the same place. He had different feelings, and a slight awareness of how behind he was... but mostly he was still the same.
Case in point, when a frog came hopping by his paws and, startled by Mfuto's presence, turned and retreated back to the jungle, Mfuto grinned and darted after it, almost on impulse. He followed it in a series of pounces, and before he realized it, he was just within the jungle, and he'd lost the frog. On his last pounce, he landed square in the mud, and a young leopon sat at his feet. Mfuto stared, curious. "You's not a frog," he observed.

Nac watched the lion pounce near him his eyes widened. As he got splashed again with mud. Shaking out his fur he blinked, "Nau, Nau I guess I'm not. But neither are you." He said looking at the larger male.
He stepped away from the mud puddle incase anyone else was to come jumping into it. Afterwards he started to try and clean out the mud. "I'm half leopard and half lion to be thruthful. So I'm rather far from a frog."

Mfuto sat there, mud dripping from his fur and mane, and he listened quietly to the young leopon. Being smothered in mud didn't bother him much, for some reason... perhaps because he was a child at heart and at head, and children take well to getting dirty. He blinked a bit, though, to get any residual mud and dirt out of his eyes, and he nodded in agreement. "Yus, I isn't a frog at all. I's a lion." He held up his head high and puffed out his chest, in his usual pose of introduction. "I is called Mfuto!"
Then, letting himself drop, he looked Nac over. Half leopard half lion huh? That seemed familiar. Where had he heard that combination before?
...oh yeah.
Mfuto beamed. "Oh, my friend Heu is half lepperd an' half lion too. She's my bestest bestest friend Uten an' mah friend Alana's daughter." He nodded eagerly. Then, still looking Nac over, Mfuto, in all his innocence, questioned, "Sos, which half a' you is lion an' which half is lepperd." Honestly, Nac looked pretty much the same species all over to Mfuto.

Nac watched the lion with a lofted brow. "Ah well Mfuto, I'm Narcissus but you can call me Nac." He said with a flicker of his tail. Watching the loin he wondered why he didn't care about all that icky mud on him, it was bound to harden and be a pain to get out. Oh well his fault if he got it stuck in his fur.
"Oh?" He said ears perking up, he didn't know there were more than him and his sisters as such. This was an interesting new fact he'd stumbled upon and couldn't wait to tell mother. "Ohhh I didn't know there were others. Everyone I've met was either a leopard or a lion... well there was a maned wolf but she didn't count." He mused, before blinking at Mfuto's second question. Looking at him he started to wonder, which half was his leopard half and which half was the lion.
"Welll...." He said "To be honest I don't know which half is which. Uncle Tego always called us freaks... But well that's Uncle Tego for you." He poked at himself. "I think I have to wait till I'm full grown to know... I'm not sure....." He sat down looking at his tail... well his tail looked like his mother's.. "Oh wait I know. My tail is the leopard half." He said with a proud nod.

Mfuto was completely oblivious to the odd looks Nac was giving him. He paused a moment to scratch an itch on his head with a forepaw, then smiled and said. "Is nice to meet you, Nac!" His tail lashed like a happy dog, splashing mud as it went. "I dunno if I coulds pernounce your long name anyways." He often had trouble with longer words. His mouth just didn't want to say them, no matter how hard he tried to convince it. Rather than fight with his mouth, Mfuto just let it say the words how it wanted. He hated the idea of fighting with his mouth... he worried that if he made it mad, it would go away, and then how could he talk? Or eat?
It took him a second to return from this train of thought and recognize that Nac was talking. Feeling a little guilty, he listened twice as hard to compensate... which somehow involved him widening his eyes, perking up his ears, and holding his breath. He wanted to make sure he missed nothing of what he did catch. Already, he was a bit curious as to who it was who didn't count, and why she didn't count... but he'd missed that part, so he let it go.
He listened to everything Nac had to say, then finally let his breath go with a gasp, and said, "Oh... I doesn't think you is a freak. I doesn't think you is a freak at all. You's just diff'rent. We's all just diff'rent." He nodded sagely, and he knew this certainly to be true. Then he looked down at Narcissus' tail and also nodded. "Yus," he said, "That does look like a lepperd's tail." It did remind Mfuto a bit of Alana's... except smaller... and with leaf patterns on it.

Nac again gave him another odd look before chuckling. "Ah that's why I told you to call me Nac. " Shaking his head he sat down having gotten most of the mud from his fur.
"I didn't think I was either. I think that's just how Uncle Tego is... He wants to cover of any fact that he has a nice side." Chuckling he nodded lookng at it. "My head must be the lion part but it's hard to tell with me still being a kid." He siad with a chuckle.
Looking around he tilted his head softly, "So were where you heading before you called me a frog?"

"I see! I understands!" Mfuto declared. It did make a lot a sense for Nac to ask him to call him Nac then. Mfuto watched Nac sit on solid ground, then followed suit by pulling himself out of the mud, shaking himself off vigorously, and sitting beside him. He didn't ask, he just did. He had no reason to assume he was unwelcome.
Nac's description of his Uncle Tego confused Mfuto. The calico lion cocked his head to one side and stared right at the leopon. "Why?" he questioned. "Why woulds Mister Uncle Tego wants to cover his niceness? Niceness is... is..." He floundered for words that would not come, then gave up. "Niceness is nice." He felt that got across what he'd been trying to say well enough, and nodded in agreement with himself on this notion.
Mfuto then took a closer look at Nac. Yes, it was hard to tell which half of him was lion. Mfuto shrugged. "Maybes you will grow a mane like mine an' Uten's, then we can tell." He sure hoped so. He thought that not knowing which half was which would cause some confusion for the poor kid in the future.
"Where were I heading?" Mfuto parroted back, almost immediately as the question was asked. Well, where had he been heading? Mfuto bit his lip and turned his eyes to the sky, pondering. He tried to remember a particular direction he may have been taking, but trying this made his head ache. So he simply gave up and declared, "I dun think I was headed anywheres. Or maybe I was headed heres, an' I jus' didn't knows it yet." It certainly felt true.

Nac stiffled a chuckle. He knew it wasn't polite to laugh at someone and while this fellow was very amusing he wasn't about to be rude towards him. When he asked why Uncle Tego wanted to hide his niceness he pondered the answer, "Well... I'm not quite sure... but I think it's because Uncle Tego thinks if he's nice he'll look..." He sreached for the right word lofting his brow... "Weak... yes weak. I don't think he wants to look weak towards anyone."
"Maybe so, unless some how that's not how it works..." He said, it seemed confused but he almost thought he wasn't going to have a mane looking at the floof on his head. "I guess we'll have to wait and see."
"Oh well it's nice to have run into you." Nac said with a grin and gave a chuckle looking around. "How about we go to the river. I dont think it's far from here." He said with a nod in the River's Direction, "It'd atleast have a place to get that left over mud out of our coats."

Mfuto did notice Nac's supressed chuckling, but he didn't think anything of it. Why, he himself often laughed for no reason when he was happy. Nac must just be happy. Mfuto was glad, he liked Nac... though to be fair, Mfuto liked everyone he met. He frowned a bit though as Nac went on to talk more of his Uncle Tego. "Weak?" Mfuto questioned. "I dun understands. Niceness don't make you weak. I mean... my bestest bestest friend Uten is very nice, an' he's also very strong." He paused, then added. "An' big." Although Mfuto was starting to catch up with his old friend in size as he aged. Already Mfuto was about as big as Uten had been when they'd met.
Mfuto glanced at Nac's head fluff and saw no reason why Nac couldn't grow a mane. Then again, he also saw no reason why wild dogs and meercats and lizards couldn't grow manes... he just assumed that they chose not to.
But Nac went on talking before Mfuto could even point out this observation, so the adolescent lion let it be. He grinned as Nac told him that it was nice to have run into him. "I thinks it is nice I ran into yous too. Does you think we can be friendses?" He stared with wide, bright green eyes and awaited an answer. He couldn't see why not; everyone he met was just a friend waiting to be made!
Then Nac suggested they go down the river, and Mfuto looked back towards the river and frowned. Oh yes. Now he remembered why he'd come this way in the first place. He turned back to Nac and shook his head rapidly. "No, no, no. I's sorries. I does not want to go to the river." He pouted a bit. "I's verry sorry. Can we goes somewhere else?"

"eh I think it's just Uncle Tego's way." He said with a shurg and streched. "Oh? Uten sound like a very interesting fellow." He said with a nod.
Getting up to streach he looked at Mtuto, "Of crouse. I like making new friends." Nac said with a grin as he started to step towards the river. He stopped when Mfuto asked if they could go elsewhere. "What did you have in mind?" Nac questioned as he turned around, "I can go anywhere as long as it's not outside the Jungle. Mother would have a fit if I left..."

Mfuto still didn't understand this 'Uncle Tego' character, but he was willing to let it go. Instead, he beamed at Nac's declaration that Uten was interesting and said "Oh yeah! He's mah bestest bestest friend. He travels a lots an' stuff, an' he's gots a daughter, an' he taught me to makes a hat with flowerses." He giggled a bit. The flower hats... that was an intersting day.
But what was this? Nac really did want to be his friend? Clearly Nac was not prepared for what a big deal this was going to be to Mfuto. The calico lion gasped, wide eyed, then reared back and hollered, at the top of his lungs, "YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!" thus accosting the ears of everyone within a five-mile radius. He then proceeded to leap to his paws and skip circles around his new friend, hollering in triumph. When he had been a cub, this had been kind of cute, if annoying. Now it was just... a little odd. But it's the thought that counts, right?
Eventually he wore himself out and sat, gasping for breath, and pondered. Hm... where would they go. Mfuto frowned as his new friend told him he couldn't leave the jungle. "Wull... I can't goes inta th' jungle without Uten." He frowned and looked around. This was hopeless, wasn't it? They'd just be stuck there forever. But wait! Mfuto's eyes alit, and then he announced his grand plan: "We can still pretends ta go somewheres, though!"

"Mmmm flower hats, I like to do necklaces and things myself." Nac commented wanting more and more to met this Uten. His tail flickered as he looked about the jungle.
Nac sat watching Mfuto as he pnaced eyes widen as the lion pranced around. He was about to say something but he just sat watching the lion, he found his mouth slighly agap and meeped closing it.
Pondering over the problem Nac tilted his head in thought more than anything. "Well... that's a pitty," he muttered thinking about what they could do considering the cirumstances. "Welll we can always explore around the jungle!" Nac suggested with a grin. It was a long walk all the way around the jungle but he'd never stayed long in the desence part of the jungle and figured if anything that'd be a nice place to explore.

Mfuto took pause for a moment to stare at Nac in wonder. "You can make hats an necklishes?" he gasped. Clearly this Nac must be some kind of genius or god among cats to have that kind of skill. "Will you teaches me how ta make necklishes?" He really looked forward to becoming Nac's apprentace of the necklace-making arts... if he would graciously accept.
His imaginary voyage proposal rejected, Mfuto was ready and eager to join Nac in a journey around the edge of the jungle. Time for another triumph holler. He threw back his head and cried out, "YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! We's goin' on an a'vensure!" In his eagerness, he leapt and bounded ahead several yards before even thinking to stop and wait for Nac. He staggered to a stop just ahead and called back. "Umm... which way does you want to goes!? The adolescent practically vibrated with anticipation. He was ready to go now.

Nac looked at him as his tail flickered. "Yup..." he chuckled as he streached and shook our his fur. Tail flickered as he pondered over this. "Of crouse." His tail flickered, "Although it takes alot of practice."
He watched the larger lion prance around and shout out happily. "Either way you'd like to go." He said with a chuckle. This guy acted like a cub, it was rather amusing in a fun way. "You know... I like you. You're fun to be around." He said with a grin as he got ready to prance off towards the way the older male wanted to go.
