It had been a long while since Soco had gone out and done anything fun with people outside of the Karlet family. The big move from the mansion to the new, smaller house hadn't helped any, and he'd been doing odd jobs here and there, such as tutoring, and there just hadn't been any time to do hang out with anybody.
Now as the dust began to resettle after he'd finished cleaning the house, he found himself with free time and a longing for outside companionship.
The choice was simple, considering he really only had one outside companion.
He flopped onto the couch and reached for the phone to dial Archard's number. He held the receiver to his ear and started biting a nail as he waited for someone to pick up.

The voice that answered the phone was certainly not Archard's, but after a short inquiry, and a bit of yelling, the blonde answered the phone after a moment's waiting on the maid's part. He was a bit confused at first over who might have been calling. He wasn't one to use the phone much at all, or receive calls himself, and only after a few moments of thought did he remember the only person who could possibly have his number.
He gained a cheery tone as he took the line over from Iole, who'd picked it up initially. "Hello? Soco?" he asked, moving up to settle in the privacy of his room.

None of the Karlets were big phone people, and that included their maid. So when the voice on the other end of the line was unfamiliar, Soco was a bit intimidated and stammered his way through the brief exchange.
Once it was over and there was a pause as the phone exchanged hands, Soco glanced down at his now demolished nail. <******** perked up when Archard's voice came over the receiver. "Hey, yeah, it's me," he said quickly, "how have you been? I haven't seen you in forever."

Archard flopped down onto his bed with the phone in hand, watching idley as Milo stretched out on his widnowsill, a shy little smile on his face, despite the fact that he was only talking on the phone. "I've been good, thanks. Yeah, we haven't seen much of each other...I've been pretty busy lately, kind of. Sorry I haven't given you a call. How about you, how've you been?"

"I've been really busy, too," Soco replied. He quickly told Archard about the move and the new house and his tutoring gigs. "I haven't had any time off until now, so I figured I'd give you a call and see what you were doing," he finished in a rush of breath. "I thought maybe we could hang out or something." He wound a lock of his fuchsia-colored hair around one finger as he waited for Archard's reply.

Archard listened with interest to what his friend had to say, nodding to himself and making short little replies when it seemed appropriate. He didn't have a job, like the maid did, but he was still in school, and did a fair amount of work at home, helping to care for the menagerie of creatures that dwelt in and out of the house. "That sounds like fun!" the blonde smiled lightly at the thought of getting out a bit. "Did you have any place in mind?"

"Eh, well," Soco paused as the images of a dozen possible hang out spots flashed through his mind. "Not really. It's still kind of cold outside but we could always just go for a walk. There's the mall downtown, and that has a little of everything. Do you have any ideas?"

Archard nodded. "The mall sounds fine to me. It's probably closer to your house though, so I'm probably going to come to you...then we can walk there together." he said, smiling. His home was a bit out of the way, and now he was rather eager to visit his old friend. "When did you have in mind?" he asked, hoping rather that Soco meant today. He had the afternoon all to himself, now that his chores were finished.

"Okay," Soco said cheerfully, already thinking of a few stores he wanted to stop by and calculating how much money he could spare for shopping. "Uhm, I was thinking we could go today -- right now, even, if you want," he said. "I mean, my afternoon is free and all..."

Archard smiled. "Hey, same here. I'll see you in a little bit, then!" he said happily, standing up off the bed to stretch out, and wander over to the closet to find his scarf. He'd ride over, of course, since it was the fastest way to go.

"Okay! See you soon!" Soco hung up the phone and indulged in a little happy dance before scurrying upstairs to his room. He changed into clothes that were a little more casual and street-worthy than his house maid uniform. Dark wash jeans hung low on his hips and flared at his ankles. He chose a green and black striped shirt out of his closet. For lack of anything more comfortable, he pulled on a pair of black converses.
After a quick check in the mirror and a check to make sure he had his phone, his wallet, and his watch on him, he deemed himself ready to go.
He was coming out of his room when he met Malachite in the hall. Mal blinked at the outfit and smiled. "Gee, that shirt looks familiar," he said.
"Someone special bought it for me for Christmas," Soco replied with a half-grin, "but I think it's more his color than mine."
Malachite chuckled. "Where you going?"
"Out with Archard."
"Oooooo," Malachite taunted with a grin. "Have fun."
"We're just going to the mall," Soco said quickly. "Nothing special."
"Mmhmm," Mal murmured, unconvinced.
Soco passed him and headed back downstairs to wait for Archard at the front window, his foot bouncing anxiously.

"Alright!" Archard hung up as well, and went about getting ready, already dressed in his usually casual clothing, which consisted of plain blue jeans, and one of the button-up, black and white shirts he so enjoyed wearing. They looked nice, but didn't look as plain as a simple white t-shirt. He pulled on some shoes and slung his scarf around his neck, heading down and out the back of the house to find Alger.
The 25 foot long dragon was in his usual spot near the back of the stables, curled up, and seemed to be taking a snooze.
"Hey Al, feel like going for a ride?" the boy patted the shaggy creature, who lifted his head at once to nuzzle his human companion.
Archard smiled, and stroked the dragon's ears, before climbing onto the spot just before the strong shoulders. He'd perfected riding the dragon over time, and it was better transportation than any car or other type of vehicle, in the boy's opinion. Quite lucky that Kami had received the dragon as a gift, since he still hadn't learned to drive a car at all.
Alger lifted off the ground, and they were off, moving in the directions his human friend implied by the way he leaned, and by the gentle tugs at his long, shaggy fur.

It was a little less than a half hour when Archard arrived at the Karlet home, the dragon setting down gingerly in the front yard. He hoped he wouldn't make any fuss, but Alger was well behaved, so he wasn't too worried. He wandered up to the front door to ring the bell, fidgetting a bit nervously.

Although Archard hadn't said how he was getting to the Karlet house, Soco hadn't expected it to be by dragon. He stared at Alger wide-eyed as the dragon landed on the front lawn.
"DRAGON!" came the overexcited screech from somewhere upstairs, followed by the sounds of feet rapidly descending the stairs. Than and Rayen soon joined Soco at the front window, pressing their noses to the glass.
"Dragon! Dragon!" Rayen said, tail whipping behind him.
"Dragon!" Than echoed in his own quietly excited manner.
"Yes, dragon," Soco said, turning to open the front door. "Stay here a sec."
The younger two whined and Rayen stuck his head out the door. "Can we pet your dragon?" he called to Archard. "Does it bite?"
Soco looked mildly embarrassed and gave Archard a half-smile.

( Here is a picture of him btw, if you needed it.) Archard could almost hear the screams coming from the house, and he blinked lightly, watching as even Alger's tufted ears perked up. He caught sight of the three at the front window, and couldn't help but smile and chuckle at the two youngster's antics. Alger did sometimes attract a bit of attention. "Hello Soco, good to see you again! Sorry to cause all the fuss..." he said, giving a sheepish little smile as he stepped over to Soco. "I was hoping it'd be okay if he could stay here while we went out...he's very well behaved, of course." he assured, feeling a bit nervous all of a sudden. Alger peered curiously over at the clambering children at the door, seating himself next to Archard on the lawn, obviously quite ell trained, as Archard had said.

Soco chuckled. "It's great to see you, too," he said, resting a hand on Rayen's head and gently pushing the feline back into the house. "Don't worry about it. He should be fine."
To Rayen and Than, he said, "Be good and don't pester the dragon."
"Fuzzy dragon!" Than observed.
Soco blinked, his mind diverted, and he placed a hand to his forehead. "I've been hanging around Adrian for too long," he muttered to himself. "I'll see you two later."
He ducked out of the house and closed the door behind him before anyone could escape. "Shall we?" he said to Archard.
