"You SURE we're going the right way?!" Rune called irritably, aiming the comment directly at the female walking ahead. Again he had found himself wandering behind her, not as far as he had been before they'd stopped to take a break. Well.. at least he did. Tara didn't exactly stop for much of a break while he sat under a nice little tree in the shade. Whatever. He had his hardships too, namely that moron who thought she'd drop by and pest him. Ugly pink thing.

Inwardly he glared, even at the mere THOUGHT of that girl. And the way she talked to him? Oi.

The adult attempted to push the thought from his mind as his eyes shifted to watch the girl ahead. "So what took you so long?" He questioned rudely, perhaps only to make conversation for the pair so they wouldn't be walking in silence. Rune thought of mentioning of how glad he was that she came when she had.. but.. haha. No. In the very least, even if she didn't know where they were going, she'd 'saved' him from that.. that.. pink thing. If she hadn't gotten there when she did..? Rune probably wouldn't have been able to ditch her. Who knows? Maybe he'd still be stuck under that tree with her. Euck.

...so that was the count. Tara had helped him several times. Two or three or four, even. And as it stood? He had yet to help her with anything. Oivey. Immediately Runai shook his head to rid himself of these thoughts. If he decided to dwell now? Who knows what he'd be thinking later. And now was certainly NOT the time for him to become attatched to anything.

"YES. I'm sure we're going the right way." God, what was with him? He was probably one of those males who thought he knew everything. Females were dumb, hmm? Couldn't do ANYTHING? Ha. She'd show him!

... well, actually, she rather thought she'd ALREADY shown him. It had been her who found their way out of the Jungle. AAAAND it had been her who had managed to wrangle directions from that mangy leopardess. Suspicious b***h. Tara snorted; now she was indebted to someone she hardly knew for a price she may or may not be willing to pay!

Uuugh. Why was she doing this again?

"While you were sleeping and lazing around in the shade, I was off getting these directions." She flicked an annoyed gaze over her shoulder at the spotted male. "From a leopardess, no doubt. Even if they're wrong, it's more than we had to go off of before."

Which was true. Part of her hoped that the directions WERE wrong. Then maybe she could back out of that deal she made with Tayhira. ... maybe she could just pretend that they had been wrong? Tara shook her head. This male was rubbing off on her, and not in the good way. She would keep her word, even if it cost her more than she wanted.

The adult snorted at the females initial response. She'd better be sure.. afterall, he didn't want to end up being drug across the savannah for nothing now did he? Of course not. It would be a complete waste of time that he NEEDED.

"A leopard? You can't be serious. You got directions from one of those?! Damn. We could be walking in circles for all we know. If that idiot was WRONG about these directions? Then I'LL find someone to beat the information out of," He retorted immediately. A LEOPARD? Truth be told he'd never literally met one himself.. but the stories all say they're sneaky, stupid creatures that only care for themselves. What he heard was usually true. So why would one willingly share directions? What was in it for her?

Ah well. It didn't directly affect Rune.. sooo.. he could have cared less. The only thing he cared about was getting to where he needed to go. Yep.

"Oh, and no, I wasn't just lazing and sleeping, thanks. I had my own PROBLEM to deal with while I waited forever for you to show up again," He added offhandedly with a quirk of a brow.

Fortunately for Tara, Rune didn't really have much else to say. Whether he liked it or not? She had a point. Whatever information she found, even if it was wrong, was more than what they had to go off of beforehand. And that.. well. He couldn't complain against. But if that leopard was wrong and was watching and snickering about how they were walking the wrong way? He'd have someone's head for the mistake.

"Yeah, from one of those! But I didn't see YOU helping any, hmmm?" Tara flicked her tail in irritation and kept going. Hmph. She snorted at his reply and turned to make sure he would see her roll her eyes. "Problems? Ha! You had a woman to keep you company while you rested in the shade! That's real tough, boyo."

Men. Always thinking they had the hard part of life, while it was the women who did all the work! And they never wanted to stop for directions. Well, they'd get to the river and then this Kusuni-whatever pride all the faster now. He'd see! And then he'd have to admit that she was smart and --

... strange. Did she actually care what he thought of her? Tara slowed her pace a pit, considering. ... Naw. He could think whatever he damn well pleased!

"She said to follow where the trees were stiped, and stay away from rocky outcroppings." She left the water part out, because that was just plain stupid. They had to have water! She knew when crocodiles hid there - and she could avoid them just as easily. Why did everyone seem to think she was incompetent?

... this tree looked kinda stripe-y. Sorta. Maybe this was what Tayhira had ment? Close enough. Tara stalked forwards and weaved her way between the narrow, reaching trunks. Daylight was fading again into night - Hira said it would take two days. So one down... one to go. Maybe they could reach the river tomorrow.

"I WOULD've come along, but NOOO. I'm too SLOW for you!" Rune bickered back immediately in defense. "You were quicker on your own," He added lightly. She couldn't deny that one. Without him holding her up, she could probably be moving just that much faster. Whatever. Her problem, not his.

"And YEA. My PROBLEM was NOT a -woman-. YOU are a woman, THAT was waaaaay off the target. Comin' on to me like some sick.. ugly.. pink.. deranged.."

...he called her a woman.

Rune quirked his head as his sentence was rather suddenly cut short. Humph. He'd push it off his shoulder. If he made a huge deal about it then Tara would never let it go.

"Like I was saying," He began again offhandedly and rather awkwardly. "I had my own problems, since I couldn't go anywhere and was STUCK with that thing." Rune's sentence, however, trailed off once again, as Tara continued to speak. Striped trees? Psssh.. these weren't striped. Sorta. Well. They kind of were.. but they were like.. in between being striped and unstriped? Whatever.

"Great, follow STRIPEY trees and keep off of the rocks. Brilliant directions, that all she gave you, then?" He snerked, offering the slightest flick of his tail. To her, she'd take that whole.. woman thing as a compliment. He'd make up for it with a quick tease.

"Yeah, you ARE slow! I -- " She paused, her gaze jerking back to the male behind her.

.. did he just call HER a woman? Tara spun around and stalked forwards again, partly because she wanted to keep moving, but MOSTLY to hide the smile that had unconsciously crept across her muzzle. Wasn't she just encouraging herself not to care?

"... I mean, you can ask someone the way too, you know. We don't HAVE to go on the directions of a lone Leopard." Tara flicked her tail in irritation and slowed down to his pace. It was annoying to keep shouting over her shoulder like this. Besides, she wasn't gonna get anywhere any faster than Rune could walk.

Yes. These trees were definately stripe-y. Excellent. They were on their way! ... she hoped so, anyways.

"You find someone to ask, and we'll ask." The lioness cocked an eyebrow and gave their surroundings a pointed once-over. No one was nearby, and she hadn't caught any scents beyond those of preybeasts, and she didn't trust them. "Or we can just keep going, and hope we find a river."

Tara didn't think Tayhira would lie... she had no reason too. She COULD have just been making mischief, but something told Tara otherwise.

Rune found himself rather relieved that Tara hadn't continued on about his little.. woman comment. It saved himself any embarassment and awkwardness in trying to defend his slip.

Clearing his throat and moving on, the adult grunted. "Fine. If I find someone I'll ask." ..well. Sort of. He probably wasn't capable of asking a stranger for directions. It'd be just as easy, if not more, to just.. beat it out of them? Yep. It made sure that any lying wouldn't be going around, either. Threaten someone and the truth tended to slip a bit more.. quickly. The male smirked silently to himself.

Mmn. "Hope we find a river," Rune absentmindedly repeated to himself, not really even thinking for the time being. He was too busy fantasizing beating someone up in order to find some information. Oooh..

Wait. Would Tara let him? ...Brows furrowed at the thought. She was all.. goody two shoed.. there was no WAY. Not with her being so nice, not with his shoulder being all.. busted sort of still. Runai huffed.

He'd have to ditch her for sure.. well. For a few minutes, at least. Meanwhile he'd just keep his trap shut, letting his mind work and turn for the time being.

Tara glanced sideways at her traveling companion, her brown eyes narrowing. Rune had fallen suspiciously silent, except for a few repeated mumblings. He was plotting something, she could practically hear the gears turning in his head.

Whatever it was, she had a feeling she might not like it. And it probably had something to do with directions... or something. She rolled her eyes.

"Listen, I KNOW there's a river to the south, so if we just keep going that way we're gonna find it." Yeesh. Couldn't he just give it a shot? Why'd he always hafta not believe her. She wasn't that much younger than him, and just because she was a girl didn't mean that she didn't know what she was doing.

"The leopard said it would take two days. Just... give it two days, and -then- you can get your information."

She felt bad for whoever happened to be in his path on that second day.

It was a pity Rune hadn't taken a moment to shut off his thinking cap and take a glance over towards Tara, who had been watching silently. Otherwise he may have taken notice to his unusual silence. But no, this was Rune. Even still, it was a few minutes after Tara had spoken and fallen silent again that the adult managed to register her words and respond. Unfortunately it was nothing short of more negativity and doubt, on his part. Or perhaps he was only trying to make conversation by creating an arguement. Either way worked, in his case. It was more fun to disagree, anyway.

"How do you know there's a river to the south? You ever been there? And how d'you even know that we're going south?" He commented roughly with a long, disgruntled stare in his companions direction. Two days? TWO days?

"...maybe y'should carry me, I bet we'd get there faster," He snerked offhandedly- Rune's idea of a lame joke. But.. At the pace they were going? Feh. Maybe the leopard missed something and meant if you /ran/ for two days y'could get there. What if it took four.. or.. five days? Five days with Tara? He sighed rather loudly at the thought.

Tara snorted and squinted up at the sky. It was what... midafternoon by now? And so if they wanted to travel south, and the sun set in the west... they should just keep the sun to their right in the afternoon! And it would rise on their left...

That sounded good enough.

"See where the sun is, smart guy?" Tara sneered and waved one paw off towards the lowering orb. "It sets in the west, right? And if we want to travel south, we should KEEP it on our right after noon, and on our left in the morning."

She pretended not to notice the sincere disdain in his tone. So what if he didn't want to travel with her? Maybe she didn't want to travel with him - certianly not if she was gonna be hated. Tara sniffed and pretended his tones didn't hurt her. Because they didn't, right? The dust really got in your eyes out here. Much different from the jungle.

"And there HAS to be water somewhere. Just walk for two damn days, is it THAT hard?" Tara snarled, temper blazing for a moment. She took a deep breath and was silent for a moment. "Just two days. Then you can do whatever you want. I don't care anymore."

You can go get hurt and die, for all I care. She snorted. He was going to open his wound again if he hunted tonight, so she would have to catch dinner. A wave of regret swept over her - she didn't even know what lived out here, or how to find it!

... damn it.

"Whatever. You just keep following that sun of yours," Rune commented roughly, despite Tara's efforts to explain. What did he care? He never had to follow the sun before. As long as it gave him light to see, why SHOULD he care? Besides, apparently his companion was such a smart cookie, therefore she could keep track of where they were headed.

"Yeaaaa.. two days with you? Pssh. With all your sun rises here and sets here, so that means that we're deeefinitely heading south crap. And like you even cared to begin with..?" The adult snorted with a mild furrowed brow and flick of his tail.

"Fine. So long as I get where it is I'm going," He added offhandedly. What was he complaining for, anyway? Letting Tara do all the thinking was easier than having himself struggle to figure out which way was which. Besides, if they got lost? It could easily be pinned on her, not him. For now, he'd leave the agreement to that.

Unfortunately his current thoughts were pushed aside the moment Tara snorted, and again his brows furrowed. "What's wrong now?" He grunted. Geez, she sure did snort and grumble a lot.

"... everything is wrong."

Her voice was choked, but she chalked it up to the dust in the air. She was always running... always turning her back on everything. Always shoving her opinions, her fears, under the rug and tagging along with others.

Well, maybe it was time to make a choice - one that was all her own.

"Everthing." Tara echoed her own words.

She pulled to a stop, shaking her head resolutely. This wasn't going to help her with anything. She'd already run away from her family, from the only ones who had ever loved her. Even if it was a love built on false pretenses. This male she was traveling with... he never would care for her. That much was certain.

So she was just setting herself up for more dissapointment. Well! She'd have to break the chains before they grew too strong. Her eyes darted to Rune's torn shoulder.

That was just an excuse... just an excuse... stay strong...

"Goodbye."

Not knowing where she was going, not really caring at this moment, she turned and loped away from him.

Runai continued ahead for a few moments after Tara had stopped, releasing a loud grumble of frustration.

"C'mon! We'll never get there in two days if you stop to take a breather," He grunted, quickly whirling on heel to face his companion with a clear frown.
Everything was wrong? Nothing was wrong. She was fine, he was fine. What was wrong? Psssh. Silly girl. She must be confused.

However Tara's next move was rather unexpected and came more of a shock to the adult. He couldn't help but stare while the black colored female began to wander off in another direction, leaving him standing like an idiot watching her go.

So she just.. did she..?

Rune quirked his head momentarily, a pure look of baffle etched across his face. She's.. leaving..?

It took him a few seconds for the males full reaction, and immediately he began to follow, barking comments and questions. Goodbye?? He wanted more of an explaination that THAT for her sudden decision to completely ditch him!

"Goodbye? What the hell're you leaving for? You can't just meander off! C'mon!" He yelled, confused at the sudden change in Tara's mood. Not that he cared, but damnit she had his directions! She couldn't just leave him to rot out here! "Where're you even going?" He added with a snort.
PostPosted: Fri Apr 13, 2007 12:59 pm

"Like hell I even know!" She snarled back, spinning to face him. "I don't know anything, remember? Isn't that what you keep telling me?"

God, where would she go? She probably couldn't even make it back to the jungle. Maybe there WASN'T any water anywhere nearby. Maybe there was only golden brown grass and a rippling sun everywhere she would go. Nothing. Her brown eyes scanned the horizon almost desperately, slipping past the mottled lion in front of her like he wasnt there.

Nothing. A chill swept down her spine.

This has started out as such a fine thing. She was out on her own, finally, away from her family and her clinging sisters and her deceitful loving mother. Now she realized - she was also away from comfort, protection, safety... away from everything she'd ever know. And it was quite possible she'd never see any of it again. The land around her was eerily still, almost as if it were waiting.

Just waiting for her to make a misstep, and then it would consume her. Tara's breathing thickened in her throat, her mind on the verge of panic. Deep breaths... you're not dying here. Not dying here!

"Listen." Tara's voice was rough and she wouldn't meet Rune's eyes. "If you're going to insist on clining to me, you're going to have to shut the HELL up and follow my directions." NOW she met his eyes. "Otherwise, get the ******** away from me."

... hmm. That didn't really do any good. But she sure felt better. The panic subsided. She could do this - she was strong. She would catch dinner tonight, they wouldn't starve.

I can do this.

Runai halted almost immediately at Tara's sudden change of direction. Brows furrowing at her statement, he made ready yet another comment over the girl's intelligence, however barely managed even a squeak before Tara began to speak once again. For the moment he wouldn't even bother to interrupt for the sake of keeping her HERE, rather than wandering off on her own away from him. She was his map to his mother and he needed her, and convincing himself otherwise would have been a futile attempt on his half.

However, Rune regretted his decision to keep quiet, probably most especially when Tara finally decided to stare him straight in the eye. His silence was retained even further, but his face showed his current emotions as clearly as day itself.

So he was insisting to cling? So he'd have to follow her directions and keep his mouth shut about them? PLUS she thought she could just.. just.. AUGH. Order him around like that?! He'd never had anyone talk to him like this, and the thought of having to comply made his blood boil even further.
The koi colored male could only manage to glare in return with narrowed eyes, a clear frown, and his face distorted with built up frustration, irritation, and anger. His breathing had deepened, despite becoming accompanied with grumbles and growls in the meantime.

"Fine," He snorted after several minutes of silence. She wanted him to shut up, afterall, so why not start now?

She wanted to play? He was game.

For now.
