I know it's not a rule, but it would be highly appreciated, and say something of your character, if you DO NOT bash another person's "style". It's rude, ignorant, and plain disrespectful, especially if you don't know anything about it.
Thank you ~Dragon~

Character has no reflection on knowledge nor skill bra. Besides it makes things interesting (insulting or not).
Determining whether or not a Martial Art is effective (in general) is to look at the average practioner. This is why we say "LOL TKD sux" and stuff. It was (and is) hilarious. Does this mean all Taekwonin suck as fighters? Naw. Not by a long shot. Every style has some people who can fight, and they deserve props. But it's hard to judge that over the internetz, so when we get a chance, we have some fun. Don't take it all to heart all the time.

If you look at each style on an even keel (each practitioner at the same level), then sure you'll find certain styles have certain weaknesses as well as strengths. I will also agree with Dragon that unnecessarily bashing a style is uncalled for. If everyone was arguing over who's style was better, we'd devolve into a cheesy kung-fu flick where everyone's beating the crap out of each other to prove their style is better when it's about the level of the practitioner. scream "Oh! Your Monkey fist is no match for my Eagle's claw!" gonk "No! It cannot be!" twisted "You are both mistaken! Feel the might of my Donkey punch!" burning_eyes

debating whos style is better, or rather more practical is cool and yes we tend to poke fun at styles we are not fans of however i think X is trying to say let us not try to crush one anothers spirits as martial artists we should all be training to attain the same general goal "peace" whether that be within ourselves or otherwise. So what I am saying tis alright to poke a little fun but not out of malice

I think its the stated opinion of nearly every member of this guild, that it is the stylist not the style that matters.
But there is no form of censorship in this guild apart from issues which breach gaias ToS. So people can bash styles if thats their opinion. That doesn't mean you have to listen to them.

this is true but you'd think that as amrtial artists we would be more mature then to be overly critical of others thats just my opinion

We're only critical because we care.
Look at it this way. Say someone decides to practice knife disarms in a horrible way (well, any knife disarm is dumb but that's not the point). We can either a) say go ahead and good luck or b) why are you doing this? That's retarded.
Now, we don't have to say it in a mean way, but it's one of the more effective ways of getting things across. We don't attack the person as that isn't relavent, but the style/technique ect. The person then defends the style rather then critically thinking and looking at the things that style lacks.
The only problem with doing this with a mean kind of tone is that it sets off the person into defense mode.
If people would take the criticism rather then the tone, it'd do them a s**t load of good. Saying things in the nicest way possible however could lead to people understanding where others come from, but usually ends up in a "agree to disagree" and doesn't get anyone anywhere.

How are you going to be a martial artist and learn if you can't take some criticism? A real savant won't be bothered by what other people think of their techniques, and will always be willing to take criticism. If you truly get offended by what people say, you probably don't have much faith in your martial art.
Lots of people say that TKD sucks, and is useless, but I brush it off. In many ways, I can agree - you wouldn't be able to utilize it quite as effectively in a street fight, but it's their right to think and say what they want. I don't have to care about their personal opinions. It takes two to communicate, anyway.

STRAWMAN! DEDUCTION! ONE POINT! (just kidding crying ) No, it's both things that makes the Martial Artist. They are equally important.
