While it had taken a great deal of coercing and a little bit of bribery, Aiodhan had managed to convince two of his many children to go out for an ice skating venture. Dageus, being furry and not bothered by the cold, had initially responded well. The wolverine anthro boy had even allowed himself to be fitted with ice skates, which Aiodhan had been sure he'd protest. Yana, however, had balked at the very idea, right up to the point where the three of them had stepped onto the ice.

Then the roles became reversed.

Dageus was clinging to the rails along the ice rink wall and inching along at a snail's pace, looking very disgruntled and quite off-balance. He occasionally glared or growled at passing skaters, muttering something childish and whiny beneath his breath. Yana, on the other hand, was skating along rather steadily, if very slowly. Aiodhan had to divide his time between watching Yana and keeping Dageus from falling over.

"Cooooome onnnnn!" Yana annunciated carefully at her furry brother, not bothering to read his lips for a response before continuing on her way. She was having fun, in a slow and wobbly sort of way.

Senai paused outside this giant building of some sort to think. Think about the risks, the payoff, and what on earth the building was used for anyway. Kujaku was the one that brought him here, anyway. /You sure this is a good idea?/

Kujaku grinned at him, Hae sitting on her shoulders and looking around. /Just chill, Nii-chan, we'll be fine. Besides, think of this as training!/

The half-brother was about to reply, only to notice that Kujaku and his son were halfway to the building. With a heavy sigh, Senai followed them into the- F COLD.

Hae blinked in surprise at the sudden temperature change inside the building. Then he saw a giant white thing with people on it. What was this place?

Kujaku grinned. "Welcome to the ice rink." She walked over to the skate rental and got figure skates for her and Hae, and hockey skates for Senai, who was still staring at the arena in a mix of confusion and shock. "C'mon, Nii-chan, I promise not to whip your sorry butt at this again~"

Senai 'hmph'ed and grabbed the skates she rented for him.

"Daaaaaad... am I gonna faaaaall!" Dageus drawled before he promptly crashed flat against the wall, his clawed hand-paws scrabbling for purchase on the wall edge. The wolverine boy looked quite furious and was swearing in some growling language by the time Aiodhan managed to rescue him from his position of clinging to the wall.

Aiodhan gave a heavy sigh and then glanced about, trying to spy where his other child had disappeared to. He panicked momentarily, bracing his skateclad feet on the ice as he attempted to keep both himself and the swearing anthro upright. No point in calling to her; she couldn't hear. But where was she??

The wayward daughter simply hadn't realized that her family members weren't behind her. Yana just kept skating around the rink in a wide, slow loop, staying close enough to the wall to grab on for support should the need arise. She didn't seem to need it, though, so she just kept meandering along, glancing over at the crowds just off the rink.

Kujaku let her inner maniac grin as she stapped on her own skates in an instant. She took Hae off her shoulders and began to lace up Hae's much smaller skates, something she doubted the baby could do himself.

Hae watched quietly as his mom laced up his skates. What was she doing? And what were the little metal things attached to the bottom of the skate?

Kujaku smiled and picked Hae up, walking over to the rink while Senai tried to put the shoes on. She set her child dwon on the side-rail. "K, you c'n use your wings, just not to much. Got it?"

Hae nodded and watched her skate away, going at a pace that said she skated before but wasn't a regular. As he watched his father come in, it was a different story. Being trained in balance at all times was probably the only thing that kept Senai from falling down immedietly.

Whilst Aiodhan struggled with an unhappy and unbalanced Dageus ("I bloody hate this bloody ice!"), he noticed that Yana had slipped away, not realizing she had left her family behind. She only came to that realization about thirty seconds later when she was halfway across the rink, and Aiodhan caught sight of her just as she turned to look at him. He quickly raised his hand and made the signs for "Be safe!" before he went back to prying Dageus away from the handrail ("Damnit, the railing is saaaaafe, Dad!")

Yana nodded in understanding and then continued to skate on, stilll slow and steady. She was lost in her own world before she spied something that caught her childish interest, and she skated a bit closer to investigate the child sitting on the rail. While she ignored the male nearby, who was obviously having serious trouble with skating, she went straight up to the child to investigate, pulling to a halt in front of him. "Hello..." she said slowly, careful to annunciate. She eyed his metallic wings with appreciation. "I .... liiiiiiike... your wwwinggggggsssss," she added, stumbling a bit over the still-foreign sounds. She never could get the words to come out quite right; not being able to hear herself (or the speaker demonstrating the words) tended to have that effect.

Hae looked down at the girl, smiling when he saw she had wings. "Hewo!" She had weird wings. "Why yuw win's weiwd?" One was a black bones with green-like skin and the other was a green birdie's. "Bu' day pwe'y, too!" Green was a pretty color. So was the dark one Mommy always dressed him in. He didn't know what it was called. "Wha' yu 'unnin' 'wond da foowr fo'?"

Aryana, having several younger siblings who were still learning to speak, was able to read most of what Hae said, though some of it came through a bit garbled. Long practice helped her to fill in the blanks, and she had a fairly good general idea of what he had said and asked. "Mah dad's a draggg'n..." she said by way of explanation, trying very hard to make her words understandable. She didn't have words to explain how she got the funky birdwing, though, so she opted to not try to explain. "I ssssgate.... ssgggate.... skkkaaaaaate," she said carefully, pointing down at her sharp-bottomed skates. "It's fun."

Hae tilteed his head as he listened to the weird kid. Dragons and skating? What was this girl talking about? "U taw' fuhhneh." He giggled and flew off the hand-rail, hovering right above the ice. "Hahw s'a'e?" The child watched all the other people going around the rink intently, as if to discover how to skate without putting weight on his legs.

Yana didn't have to hear what the boy said to get the gist of it, and her wings rustled unhappily as she mentally translated. Yes, she knew she sounded quite funny; her classmates reminded her of this on a daily basis. She watched as he flew off the handrail to over above the ice. It was obvious he didn't know how to skate, so Yana took it upon herself to instruct him on the basics. It really wasn't hard to know how; balancing was the issue. "Li' walkiiiing... but gliiiiiiidde," she drawled carefully, gliding first on one foot and then on the other, her gaze never leaving his face in an effort to not miss anything he said.

Hae was ignorent of having insulted the girl, as he was now staring down at his skates. Glide, not walk? Walking? "I dun wa'. Huws 'oo mu'." His legs always started to hurt when he put a bit of weight on them, so he assumed they would hurt a lot if he tried walking. Besides, he had wings! Why walk if you fly? "C'n yu fwy?"

This time, Yana understood barely half of what the boy said, but judging by the way he was avoiding actually standing, she guessed it had something to do with his legs. Maybe they weren't very strong, or they were paralyzed or something. That would explain his reluctance to skate. She shrugged in response. "Yooou c'n fllllyiiiiiy. No' meee," she said, shaking her head and pointing at her mismatched wings.

Hae frowned. The girl couldn't fly? That was so sad! She even had wings! "Dasssad..." Hae started giggling at a new thought. "Yu c'n fwy, so I c'n wa'! Ii' bawank!" Everything balanced! With this new insight, Hae giggled and flew in loop-da-loops above the ice. "Bawance bawence bale-ese..." he chanted over and over, in a tune that sounded like it was from a Suess movie.

Clueless as to what was said this time, Yana deduced that the boy was amused, if the expression on his face was any indication. Ah well. It probably wasn't something significant anyway. Grinning back at him, she watched as he flew in loops above the ice, watching his mouth move and assuming that sounds were coming out. She resumed her skating as well, careful not to skate too quickly. Balance was a delicate thing, after all.

After a moment, though, she got distracted by something and accidentally sped up a little. When she realized this and went to correct her mistake, she somehow managed to catch one skate on the other and fall over backwards to sit down hard on the ice. "Owwwwww!"

Hae jerked at the girl's cry and looked at her for a few seconds, trying to figure out if she was okay or not. He hovered an inch above the ice and tilted his head. "Dwa' win kee awigh?" the baby asked, head tilted. Falling looked like it hurt. He only fell once before, and then it was against paper boxes. This 'ice' looked hard.

After scowling at the ice for a moment, Yana went to pick herself up, sliding a bit on the ice before managing to get her feet back beneath her and her body perfectly vertical again. Once she did, she breathed out a massive sigh of relief, looking up when she spied movement in her field of vision. She caught the tail end of whatever it was the boy was saying, and she nodded. "Dun faaaaaall," she said, pointing at the ice. "BIIIIG ow!"
