I just used current avatar images for that, just to use up that empty space on either side.

Yeah, and it's totally tweakable. I mislike over-complex banners.

The only thing I would suggest is keeping avatar images out of the banners. I mean no offense by this, but that might not appeal to everyone who is not included in the banner.

Yeah, I understand that. I was just looking for something to fill the space with anyway. I don't know. Maybe a harp on one side... and the flag on the other? Hm.
