As the little mare trudged along she pondered what had gone wrong since coming to this place. Feeling backward and shy now she sighed miserably at the world and those within it.
The trees had grown sparse along with the ground set in snowy muddy patches here and there. Everything seemed dead and lifeless most of the time. Her ears swiveled for sounds around her picking out a bird or two. Shying away from the normal herd she just wished somewhere there was someone she could be near and talk with.
But all that returned her longing was a brisk chilled wind mixed with a longing sigh. There had to be something more out there...

Thokya was a loner, shying away from the more populated areas. He preferred the trees- they made good scratching posts- and it seemed that most of his fellows stayed in the flat areas. Wide open spaces made him nervous.
He grazed absently at a patch of grass, his ears flicking periodically in the wind. An unexpected noise caught his attention. Raising his head, Thokya glanced around in search of its origin. A single female, he decided, his nostrils flaring. Not a threat. The orange and white stallion, curious, trotted in the proper direction.

Kimi was forlorn and submissive lately trying to be a shadow in the sunlight. So unlike her to hide rather than investigate like her long lost herd would have done. Curiousity found new pathways and openings and sometimes a tasty snack as well.
Her ears caught the faintest sound of hoofbeats approaching causing her head to bolt upright and ridgid. The sound became clear someone was nearing where she stood. Investigating the depth of pounding she took it to be a stallion. Swalloing heavily she closed her bright orange eyes and wished deeply it wasn't one of those kalona types. Heaven knows they'd eat the poor girl.
Reopening them to the light he appeared orange to her. Strangely she thought she reconized stripes throughout his tail that lingered in a sway behind him. Somehow he looked familiar if only in what she thought was a memory. Blinking she stood there waiting for him to either greet or threaten as he approached.

Thokya was about as far from a kalona as it's possible to get. He swiveled his ears towards Kimi, whuffling softly.
"Ah, hello?" he asked quietly, stepping to within easy sniffing range. Her stripes were pretty, and the markings on her face were somewhat like his own, Thokya realized.

She blinked realizing he did indeed carry markings close to her own. But she would have known if anyone else had also made it from the island. Preparing herself she pondered her words for he seemed friendly and nice in her strange orange set eyes.
"Hello. Familiar you look to Kimi. To meet you is very nice." she greeted with a bright smile letting her nerves lessen and settle with a purring chest.

It took Thokya a moment to understand the mare's odd speech pattern, although her friendly attitude was obvious. "Kimi? I am Thokya." He stamped one hoof lightly for emphasis and bobbed his head.
"Pleasure to meet you as well," said Thokya, gazing at her from behind long lashes.

He greeted her. That was something she was hoping for, for most would either turn their rump the opposite way or simply do an eye roll. Perhaps there were decent souls in the world worthy of calling "friend".
She pondered momentarily what to say next, for she wasn't expecting this wonderful response. He seemed as timid as she so Kimi let things move in their own pace.
"Thokya? Ah meet you Kimi am pleased." she grinned letting her happiness seep into her alluring strange orange obs.
Not many others would have done the same.

Thokya blinked. Hadn't she just said that? But the striped mare seemed pleasant enough. He trotted closer to get a better sniff, his breath whuffling through his nostrils.
"What brings you so far from the herd, Kimi?" asked Thokya politely. "Not many come across my path."

Kimi tilted her head thinking, "Away with Kahaina Glory went she did. Foals to be soon. Kimi so needed a vacation Kimi say she will," thinking she twitched her own nose, "Sort of what path is Thokya's?" she queried with a bright smile.
"Where is Kimi anyway? Thokya here lives yes? Fun is here to live?"
She hummed to herself with a soft purr, swaying back and forth happy to talk with someone instead of running away.

Thokya wasn't entirely sure he understood... He didn't know anyone named Glory or Kahaina, but apparently they'd gone away to have foals. And foals, especially other people's foals, were best at a distance. So really, he couldn't blame Kimi for wanting a break.
"Yes, Thokya lives, er- I live out here. It's nice, with the trees and little animals. Peaceful." The orange stallion paused, considering his next words. "My path is a wandering one," he told her.

Kimimela sighed and swished her tail, "Would Thokya do Kimi a favor yes? Kimi need to learn to better talk. Thokya teach Kimi talk better?" she nodded with a hopeful gaze at him. Perhaps just maybe she could be understood better, well at least partially if she had a good teacher. Glory had helped when she first arrived, but her friend had a family to look after now. It was a very bold thing to ask, but she trusted this soft spoken soquili.
Scrunching her nose she waited hoping that something could help her a bit. Things were so different here yet kind of like the island in her eyes.

Thokya leaned forward to chomp at a few flowers growing up along a tree trunk. At Kimi's request, his head shot up. That certainly wasn't anything he was expecting!
"Well, ah, I suppose so," he stammered. "I don't really know what kind of help you want... Mostly it seems like your words just get all muddled up."

She listened to him, noticing the shock she created as her ears swiveled towards his reaction. She really wasn't coherent in the ways the others spoke or acted, yet she tried her best to fit in when she could.
"Well, How does Kimi not muddle Kmi's words? Everyone thinks Kimi way Kimi talk is wierd it is. Maybe Thoyka can help Kimi better speak, better soquili" she nodded with a hopeful smile.
"Kimi doesn't burden to want something, does Kimi?" she tilted her head thinking how strange she must look right now.

"No, it is not a burden at all," Thokya assured her. Frankly, it would give him something to do. As much as he enjoyed the solitude of the forest, he couldn't spend all his time alone.
As for the task with which he'd been charged... It seemed to Thokya that he had always been able to speak properly. How on earth was he supposed to teach someone else? But he would try. Poor Kimi seemed so earnest.
"Perhaps try thinking through what you want to say, very clearly, before you say it," the orange stallion suggested. "And instead of saying 'Kimi' all the time, use 'I' and 'me.'"
((Do horses worry about subject-verb agreement? XDDDD))
