The world was hers! She was young, confident and full of life!
Her dark red paws padded against the golden dirt and long green grasses of the Pridelands, soft yellow eyes glancing over the horizon as the sun beat down against her black pelt. Such a hot day...this is what she hated! It was always so damn hot!
However as she trotted across the land, she had to enjoy the fact that compared to most of the others around her. She was unique! None but her brothers and cousins had red and black on them and only she and her brother had yellow eyes!
She was one of a kind! How could this day be any better?

Uzalishaji was so different from Zira in many ways, the most noticeable being that he was an exact replica of his father, and that his pelt was that natural gold color that most native-born Pridelanders nearly always bore. He seemed to be nothing special, just another cub enjoying a little time away from his parent. Zira would even, perhaps, find him a dull example of life emodied in the form of a lion cub. But, he knew nothing about Zira, and thus could not take any measures to avoid her.
All he saw in the distance was that unfamiliar black and red pelt, and as he drew closer he saw that she was young, older then he, but still young. Instantly his mind jumped to the conclusion that she would be his friend, that she would play with him every day, and together they would laugh. Uzali's family was close, and in them he found love abundant. This had not prepared him for the harsher cruelties of the world. He trusted everything and everyone, and if something ever went wrong, he would believe it was because of himself, and not the other person.
From out of the grasses he came, bounding happily to a juvenile that he could never believe would dislike his presence. But as he drew closer, he slow down, as if to regain his composure, and then with a slight confident stride he moved forward to close the distance between them. She looked happy, and so there was nothing to chase him away, to warn him that he may very well find abuse with this juvenile.
"Hello," he said a little breathlessly, red eyes peering up at her with a rapt interest. "I'm Uzalishaji, you can can me Uzali, Zali, or Shaji, if you like. And who are you?"

The female was taken aback by this...ball of golden fur suddenly bounded at her and let out a small, displeased hiss towards him. And as he slowed down her golden eye's narrowed at him, a brow arching curiously at him before she moved to sit infront of his before lifting a paw and licked at her paw in an almost lackadaisy fashion.
She allowed him to talk and tell her who he was and why he decided to bother her. However when he didn't tell her that information she stared at him.
"I'm Zira, just Zira, nothing else...it's...'nice'...Uzali." She said, in the most bittersweet tone she could muster.

Her reply made his hopes sore, made him believe that they were going to become the best of friends. The hiss she had given him earlier had worried and startled him, but then he figured that he hd simply startled her, and that it was her most natural response to hiss at him in self-defense. With that, he reminded himself to be more careful when approaching people that did not notice him. Excitement could not be permitted to take over him ad lead him to such hasty actions as scaring a potential friend.
"Zira. It's a pretty name," he told her with a soft smile, and nothing about his demeanor hinted that he was hitting on her. In fact, the words were truthfully spoken, honest and filled with that sweet nature he posessed. He was giving himself away to Zira, giving blatant hints as to what he was like, and his motives for approaching her were made clear. He wanted a friend, someone he could talk to day in and day out. If she rejected him as friend, he could handle it with only simple tears being shed, but he'd wonder what he did wrong. It would be his fault, he knew it.
"Yes, it's very nice to meet you. I've only been hanging out with my family, and it's nice to be able to talk to someone else. You seem like a nice lioness, anyways." There it was, him fishing compliments to her at almost every opportunity. It was the best way, he had discovered, to make other lions like him.

The look of hope on his face, actualy made her stomache turn...this kid was...strange, compared to her atleast. And as she sat there looking at the golden cub, her equally golden eye's had to narrow. Compliments didn't do anything for her and they would not do anything for him if he continued.
"Yeah...thanks...so, you assume everyone outside your family is going to be nice?" She asked curiously, paws laying lightly against the ground as if she would need to run at any moment.

The look in his eyes answered her question for him long before his mouth propped open to speak. There was trust in his eyes, soothing the brilliant red of his irises into something bearable. It was a look that was not reflected in Zira's eyes. He saw nothing of himself in her, and perhaps that was what had piqued his curiosity so much to stay around her. It was the purest form naivety.
"Why would anyone not be nice?" He asked, his head tilting to the side, sending the fluffy tuft of fur on his head to the side, nearly obscuring one red eye from view. It was almost laughable, how much he trusted people to be as kind to him as he were to them. His view on the world was pure, untainted. His world was a place where bad only came at the rare occassion, and only because of an accident. His philosophy was quickly becoming that of 'only if you're mean to someone, will you be meaned at in return'.
"It doesn't seem fun to be mean. Why would anyone /want/ to be like that?"

Her eyes reflected nothing but anger and frustration...but also something that could never be mistaken as pure venom. That burned and stung at the sight of it. But her body language spoke nothing more than a calm, collected and aloof creature that was simply speaking with him.
As he asked his question, she scoffed slightly, a cold and acruel little laugh as she looked over him.
"Many reasons...one...it's fun...and two, they may just be that way." She said, golden looking over him almost seductively if they didn't seem so cold and young for that sort of thing.

His eyes widened, blinking at her in innocent wonderment. "Fun?" The idea had never occured to him, that someone would find it enjoyable to be mean. It also, vaguely intrigued him, this new idea of fun. He was staring at her now with a rapt interest, leaning closer to her to see if she would spill the secrets of fun behind being mean. He was too young to under the full concept of meanness and niceness, but he could grasp the jist of it. One was bad, while the other was not. His father had told him as much.Z
"Are you that way; mean?" It was an innocent question, a simple attempt given by Uzali to try and understand her. Then came the inevitable question that Uzali had to ask. "Am I mean?" He had to know what her opinion of him was. His father always told him that he was a nice kid, but his siblings sometimes called him mean, and so he looked to a third party to give the final announcement about his personality.
"I don't think you're mean, not all that much. You haven't hurt me yet, and my siblings do that and I call them mean." In return for her opinions, he would give her some of his own.

This female gave a small smirk at him, no, she wasn't mean, just very rude and not used to strangers. She didn't mean to be mean, she just...the thought of strangers...and the thought of them ever trying to hurt her family. It frightened her.
The smirk turned into a smile.
"No you're not mean." She said softly, although she didn't answer whether or not she was. Because she did come off as mean and in a way it was very fun.
"So...what do you do for fun then?"

That smirk she gave him was misinterpreted as a smile, and naively he gave her an encouraging smile in return. It was as close to a smile as Uzali had managed to get out of her, and he was going to treasure it. She had not told him that she was potentially a mean cub, and by avoiding his question he could only assume that she was nice. Never would he make the assumption that someone could be nasty. If there was no evidence to prove otherwise, the lions that Uzali met were innocent.
But then she truly smiled, and she could not possibly understand how happy it made Uzali to see it. If she had the capability to smile, then Uzali knew that she would never be truly bad or mean. Forever would he trust her, as long as she proved capable of smiling. "Oh, that's good to know then. If I'm nice, then people will like me, and I like being liked."
His eyes rolled back a little, his tongue sticking out from between his teeth as he thought intensely on what he did for fun. Finally he had come to a conclusion, and with a triumphant gasp he answered her question. "I wrestle with my siblings, chase bugs, pretend to hunt, and I even swim at times."

The female blinked slightly, he was...very happy, wasn't he? Just so very, very happy. It almost made her smile again. This cub reminded her so much of her baby brother Ushu. And now that made her smile, a real smile.
Zira was immensly intriugued by the thought of wrestling and she cocked her head at him, the face he gave while he was thinking made her chuckle.
"You like to wrestle?...wait...what's swimming?" She asked, she'd personally never tried swimming.

A smile.
It made his heart leap with joy, and he had never expected that seeing a near-stranger smile would make him so happy. But it did, and once again he rediscovered a minor purpose he had set himself to do. His task, his duty, almost seemed to be to make everyone around him. It did not always work, and sometimes he was naive enough to be irritating. But, he tried.
"Well, yeah, I like to wrestle. I'm not very good at it, though... my older sister Sineri beats me every time. Sometimes I can beat Shetani... but tha's rare." It was not hard to see that a difficult life would be out of the question for Uzali. He was like his father, delicately built with no promise of great strength. If someone pounced on him, he'd probably break a leg.
"You don't know what swimmin' is?" His eyes went wide, and he stared at her, nearly unable to comprehend her question. But, he was eager to respond, and after regaining his composure, he chatted on happily once again. "Well, swimmin' is when you got into deep water and kick your legs to keep from going under. It's lots of fun."

She smirked slightly, a brow arching in humour before she moved by the minor and gave a playful tug at one of his ear's. Ofcourse he was younger, she'd always know that...but the prospect of wrestling was OH so good! A playful twinkle in those golden eye's of hers.
As he spoke of swimming, she thought for a moment and then shook herself. The prospect of getting wet never really appealed to her...although with all this heat and her black pelt that soaked up ever damn ray of sun, she supposed it would be rather refreshing.
"It sounds fun!"

He smiled in an extremely goofy manner, his ear twitching from between her teeth. Pulling away, he swiped at her playfully with his paw, flicking it against her ear. Shaji was more then ready to play any game, and he pounced playfully forward, and then back, tempting her into a game. This was the best way, he had discovered in the past, to make friends. No one seemed able to resist a good game. Of course, he was probably very little competition for her, but that would not stop him from trying.
"It is fun! I do it on days when it's really hot outside. You gotta be burning underneath this sun. We can go swimming if you want, or I can beat you at this game..." A smirk was drawn across his face, a peculiar look for someone so naive and innocent. It certainly wasn't meant for him, at least not at this age, but he wore it proudly and tried to be a little intimidating. He was male, so he should be able to beat her... even if she was bigger then him.

Zira loved to play rough, especially with her 'friends' and other people she knew. Her cousins where so much fun. But this cub intrigued her a lot, seeing as he was such a big softy...she wouldn't be as hard as she would be on others. After all he was still younger than her.
At his words, she arched a brow and smirked at him, this kid had spunk and she liked it. "Oh you will, will you?" She replied. "Beat me at a game?" She then smirked. The front of her body then lowered to the ground, a smirk on her muzzle as her tail stuck up in the air in a sort of hunter like pose. Like she meant business.
'Bring it on then! We can swim later!"
