It was early morning, and for some reason, Zua was wide awake... As usual, she was quite bored, but didn't want to wake anybody up. Surprisingly, Shira and Yakuti were both out, leaving the pups all alone. They were probably hunting, but Zua saw this as the perfect opportunity to sneak out and play some more, but as she was about to leave, a little creature darted in front of her.
"Omoa! What are you doing here?" Zua squeaked, hoping that she wouldn't tell Yakuti that she was trying to sneak out again.
"Do you know how much trouble I'd be in if I let you get out while your parents are gone? No way are you leaving, what if something happened to you?" The little black and white ratel asked sternly, shaking her head, "Just go back to sleep or something, I can't let you get out again, not when I'm supposed to be watching you." Omoa hated standing guard over the pups, but sadly, it was something that Yakuti often made her do. It was terribly boring, but sometimes she actually had to do something, like now for instance.

Morning light touched the ground, and a pocket of light drifted forward until it was glaring Auri in the eyes annoyingly, causing her to finally stir and whine as she opened her eyes. She had been sleeping so well, too! The yellow pup yawned and shifted on her paws, straightening up until she was in a sitting position (However, slouched over drowsily), and looking around with disinterest for a moment. It was early, and it seemed that her parents were out. Oh! But she wasn't the first up, apparently.
She moved her now-widening eyes to her sister and the little 'guard' of theirs, tilting her head to a side with growing curiosity. She couldn't stop herself from slinking over to join in as well, probably just to be a pest since she knew Zua probably got caught trying to leave.
"Good morning you two! What'cha talking about so early in the morning?" She asked cheerfully, wagging her tail thoughtfully for a moment in an innocent gesture.

Zua jumped slightly as her sister suddenly appeared behind her. "Oh, hey Auri." She sighed, "Nothing, Omoa doesn't wanna let me out though." She growled. Since Omoa was so small, she could easily fight her way past, but Zua was generally against violence, and Yakuti would be sure to punish her for it if she did.
"Come on Omoa, let me out, pleeeeease?"
Omoa rolled her eyes. "No way. How about you play with Auri or something? The den is big enough, what's so great about out there anyways?" She shook her head, "Nothing, that's what. Just a bunch of dust and bones, not like we don't have that in here." She said, indicating the small pile of animal bones in a corner.
"And you wouldn't want me getting in trouble with your parents, would you?"

Auri yawned, clicking her teeth together when she finished before looking at the two with interest. "Oh. Is that right? Well, it is her job, after all." The pup agreed dully, nodding her head. "Sure, just dust and bones. But it's still very interesting, so you can't blame Zua for wanting to leave." It seemed she was going to leave it at that, but she suddenly started to trot away a few feet, before turning again and heading out of the den where Omoa wasn't standing.
Apparently, she was up to testing her luck on getting out as well. She figured, hey, Omoa couldn't be two places at once, right?

"Yeah, maybe it is, but that doesn't mean she has to be no fun." She said, sticking her tongue out at Omoa. "Besides, it's not like you could stop me if I really tried to get out." She teased, growling playfully at her.
Wait, what was Auri doing? It looked like she was trying to get out. Zua wasn't the brightest pup in the world, but she still caught on rather quickly. The entrance to the den was small, but Omoa was even smaller.
Omoa gasped as she realized that BOTH of the pups wanted out now. How was she supposed to stop them? She darted over to get in front of Auri, but as she did, Zua dashed out. Frustrated, she spun around to try to block Auri again, but it was too late. If Auri wanted out, she'd get out before Omoa got there. Her legs were too short to get there fast enough.

"Mmm-hmm..." The yellow pup had hummed distractedly under her breath to her sister as she spoke, keeping an eye on Omoa until she knew how to time things.
Her plan worked perfectly, it was hilariously great.
Omoa saw her casual lope to leave the den, and started over to stop her, leaving Zua unguarded. After Zua ran for it, it gave Auri enough of a distraction to dart out after her and bound to a stop just a little ways out. Turning, she flashed a toothy pirate grin to Omoa and wagged her tail energetically. "Sorry Omoa!" She laughed, then trotted to her sister. "It was too easy to pass up! I won't put blame on you, though." She promised, darting ahead and gluing her nose to the ground as she sniffed for anything interesting.

Zua cackled in that traditional hyena way, shaking her head at Omoa. "Too bad Omoa, maybe next time." She giggled, tail wagging happily.
She turned to Auri, "That was amazing! Come on, let's go before miss killjoy over there tries to get us back in there." She laughed, loping after her sister, though with her nose in the air instead. Sure, the ground had lots of fun scents, but the air was where you needed to be if you wanted to find someone to play with.
"What? Hey!" Omoa scowled, scampering after the pups, but it was no use. She was already tired, the pups were well rested and her legs were too short. "Oh fine, but if you're caught out there on your own, don't come crying to me." She called after them, grumpily heading back into the den to work on expanding her tunnels. They had begun to be a bit of a tight fit, and she didn't want to end up stuck one of these days.
"Good riddance..." She mumbled to herself as she clambered into the tunnel and started her work. "I'm no babysitter anyway..."

Auri let out a similar howl of laughter as Omoa gave up, and she pranced about for a minute with a burst of excitement as the idea of her winning sank in. She LIKED having power over the babysitter, how great was this? Of course, she pitied Omoa for it as well, but she really had no intention of getting caught and blaming her for it. If she was gonna do it, might as well be honest and proud for it!
"Yes! That was pretty cool, wasn't it? Hahaha! It's not like she'd be able to catch us if she tried!" She cooed energetically, giving a short bound and letting all the new scents wash over her. Wow! How come they couldn't go out here more often? It was so new and fascinating, alien scents calling her to different areas and sounds which she couldn't match up to anything she had encountered before.
It really was awesome.
"Zua! We need to do this more often!" She found herself gawking to her sibling.

Zua giggled and flicked her tail dismissively at Omoa before the little ratel disappeared into the hole, bounding around with her sister. "Yeah, isn't it the best?" She asked excitedly, "I don't even know why mom and dad don't like us being out here." She shrugged, pushing it from her mind.
"So, what should we do now?" She asked, looking around. The graveyard was fun, but it was easy to get lost. She had to make sure that they could find their way back home.

"I don't know either! They probably think we'll get lost or something, but it can't be too hard to get back!" The yellow pup meant that too--sure, the place was awfully big...but they could track their way back by smell.
Right?
"Hmm! Hey, why don't we see if there's someone to meet around here? What if there are others our age?" A sparkle entered her wide scarlet eyes at the idea of playing with said others, and she shuffled excitedly on her paws. "Besides! It wouldn't be too hard, we just follow some smells to them, and...follow ours back here! Right?" She planned, her big ears swiveling with curious impatience as she started walking.

Zua rolled her eyes at the thought, "Mom and dad are such worry-warts! I mean, we can take care of ourselves, we're hyenas!" She puffed out her chest proudly, wagging her tail. "I heard that dad came here when he was just a pup, and he was all alone. Why can't we do the same?"
"Maybe there is!" Zua agreed, happy to follow Auri where ever she went. "Yeah, we can get there and back easy." She bounced slightly with each step, glancing excitedly around every corner as if someone would be there to greet her. "Maybe we'll even meet the ALPHA."
